Obama Camp: Romney’s Remarks Disqualify Him From Serving
Talk Radio News Service ^ | September 18, 2012 | Justin Duckham and Geoff Holtzman

UPDATE 3: In an interview Tuesday afternoon with Fox News host Neil Cavuto, Romney discussed the remarks he made that have landed him on the hot seat this week. At one point in the interview, Romney said his statement about the roughly 47 percent of Americans that don’t pay federal income taxes was meant to differentiate his economic agenda from President Obama’s.

“Frankly,” he said, “we have two very different views about America. The President’s view is one of a larger government. There is a tape that just came out today where the President is saying he likes redistribution. I disagree. I think a society based upon a government-centered nation where government plays a larger and larger role, redistributes money, that’s the wrong course for America. That will not build a strong America or help people out of poverty.”

The tape Romney cited was actually recorded at a conference Obama participated in back in 1998. It was uploaded to YouTube today.

Romney added that “the right course for America is one where government steps in to help those that are in need. We’re a compassionate people, but then we let people build their own lives, create enterprises. We believe in free people and free enterprise, not redistribution. The right course for America is to create growth, create wealth, not to redistribute wealth.”

– End Update –

UPDATE 2: As expected, the White House was asked to weigh in on Romney’s comments. Here’s what Press Secretary Jay Carney had to say during a briefing with reporters today:

“When you’re president of the United States, you are president of all the people, not just the people who voted for you.”

– End Update –

UPDATE: The Obama campaign put out a statement Monday evening criticizing Romney’s comments, which were documented in the video released by Mother Jones. Here’s the full statement from President Obama’s campaign manager, Jim Messina:

“It’s shocking that a candidate for President of the United States would go behind closed doors and declare to a group of wealthy donors that half the American people view themselves as ‘victims,’ entitled to handouts, and are unwilling to take ‘personal responsibility’ for their lives. It’s hard to serve as president for all Americans when you’ve disdainfully written off half the nation.”

– End Update –

WASHINGTON — A candid video of Mitt Romney writing off 47 percent of voters as “dependent on government” and therefore defacto Obama supporters was released online by the news outlet Mother Jones Monday.

“There are 47 percent of the people who will vote for the President no matter what,” Romney states. “[They] believe they are victims, who believe the government has a responsibility to care for them.”

The video, which appears to have been shot at a fundraiser, blurs out those in the room but clearly shows Romney’s face.

Here's what current White House Press Secretary Jay Carney had to say about that back when he worked for Time.

"He's got problems and he's exposed a huge weakness in this past week with his comments about small town Pennsylvanians. Cause it reinforces a perception that he's urban and urbane but not particularly well-connected to small town America."

And here's what he said today:

"I didn't--I don't remember that column. But the-- I honestly don't. I think the president then candidate addressed this at the time."

It's impossible for us to ever regain a Constitutional government working within the corrupt, and unconstitutional system, that allowed blatant violation of our Constitution to begin with. When will people accept we are never going to reverse the tyranny we face using the system that allowed it to begin with? It's not possible to achieve that with any President. I'm not voting in the federal elections considering our federal government is an enormous, out of control, corrupt monstrosity that can't be fixed at this point, but has to be destroyed and rebuilt.

We shouldn't be allowing such an obvious unconstitutional domestic terrorist like Obama to continue imposing tyranny on us no matter what it takes. Those Conservatives who can't accept working outside the system regardless of how bad it gets are just wasting their time. A lot of influential Conservatives are still too afraid to mention anything about possible defiance of blatant unconstitutional laws and mandates that would could happen peacefully. I don't have the stature or platform that would legitimize, or be able to lead any revolutionary activities, but there are lot of people out there who do have those things who will hopefully emerge

We shouldn't be working in a system that is corrupt and unconstitutional. If enough people can't accept that our government can't be fixed at this point, and can't accept that their comes a time to stop legitimizing the institutions that disregard our Constitution, and impose a tyranny on us that's greater than what our founding fathers thought was important enough to fight for. They knew there revolution couldn't be a peaceful one, but a relativily peaceful revolution is something that does seem possible these days.

Hopefully there are many more people willing to accept this fact, who have much more influence and respect among the population than the average person, who emerge to legitimize and lead people in revolution. Some kind of revolutionary change has to happen for us to survive as a nation that isn't living under tyranny.

I believe we can have a peaceful revolution, and while I know their are significant risk it's our only option that could possibly allow us to rid ourselves of tyranny, and regain the liberty we lost a long time ago. Instead of looking at all the bad situations that could emerge, we should focus on the fact that it's the only option that could achieve salvaging anything our founding fathers stood for when building our nation. People need to be speaking the truth of our situation, instead of trying to find a better solution when one doesn't exist.

If everything went wrong it still have been the only option we have. It will come down how many in our federal, and state forces will murder American patriots if ordered to do so, those who will refuse to obey those orders, and those who will resist any attempts made by other federal forces. We just have to get politicians at the state level that will simply defy blatant unconstitutional laws and mandates that put our federal government in a situation where they can choose to accept us regaining our liberty, or can attempt to violently enforce it upon us.

This campaign has been an appalling farce to watch.

It has been all in one direction. The dems attacking Romney, while Romney does next to nothing in return. Now and again he might break out the kid gloves or turn Ryan loose, but that’s about it. It’s like they’re trying to ‘out-McCain’ McCain, and thus far they are excelling in that challenge!

What a dog show......

What’s truly terrible is the effect this will have on races down ballot.

Thank you for that post Miss Magnolia, it was excellent.
I’m going to employ that “theme” to reply to any criticisms about Romney.

I don’t think so. The Leftist media is really ready for this and piled on pretty fast. The Atlantic has an article up on the 47% already. I think Romney knows Obama’s playbook and is so ready it isn’t funny.

Obama’s so 20th century.

IMHO, “You didn’t build that,” disqualifies Obama from being President.

AGREED, plus I think it shocking and despicable that we have elected a President who, since his school days, has sought out for advice and studied the methods of a collection of extreme Left ideologues, known Communists, and domestic terrorists.

The thing that pisses me off about Romney’s campaign is how slow they are to react to news.

American lays off 4400, and a coal miner lays off 1200.

He could have doubled down and clarified his remarks by saying:

“When I made those remarks, the number of people out of work was a lot less than what we’ve got today. After the layoffs at American and in West Virginia coal industry, we may have to revise that percentage upwards.

That people can’t find jobs isn’t their fault. Bad economic, energy, and monetary policies are preventing business expansion. At this rate, by the time November 3rd rolls around, that number may be up to 49 percent. You can almost bank on it. I lose this election, and 99 weeks of unemployment isn’t going to cut it for most people.”
