In reality, as anyone who has been there realizes, it is a miracle the CCP maintains any control over China at all.

"Riding the Tiger" indeed, eh!

There are protests all the time in China, Janice Joplin style. "Freedom's just another word for nothing left to lose."

They don't make the news over here, but they certainly happen.

There's also something liberating about anonymity there.

We are tracked and controlled in the US to a far wider and more accurate extent than most Chinese are, certainly in the lower classes. We have less freedom, because we actually exercise it less, because we have more to lose.

The fact that we are all posting in a "Free Republic" with pseudonyms....?

Does the world know something we don't, yet?

“Pay us back our money...”

The world is salivating at the prospect of our economic collapse.

You know Rush has brought up the collapse several times on his show recently. He was being serious about it, not jocular. His indications were 18 months away, I thought it was much closer than that.

The things we don't know, we don't know. What we do know is... the government lies. We know the unemployment figures are rigged...but...what if they've lied about the debt? How would we know the real amount anyway?

Bernake printing like we're the Wiemar Republic...that's how we know. It is over...all that is left is to wake up the American people to their national poverty.

This is why we need a war. It's how the depression got ended...World War.

Well, you only had three choices.

I shot 9 holes with Locke at Interbay, 7 or 8 years ago. It was pure chance I was a single and got thrown in with his threesome.

I, by no means, rub shoulders with the political class however, I’ve met a lot of politicians through my place of employment: Pelosi, Gorton, McDermmitt, Gregoire etc...

I totally disagree with his politics but, Locke was the first professional liberal I’ve met who didn’t come off like a complete prick. He was pretty nice and didn’t mention politics once.

He’s the kind of guy you disagree with, but you’d be fine golfing with on a regular basis.

The fact that the Depression dragged on for years convinced generations of economists and policy-makers that capitalism could not be trusted to recover from depressions and that significant government intervention was required to achieve good outcomes,” Cole said. “Ironically, our work shows that the recovery would have been very rapid had the government not intervened.” http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s-Policies-Prolonged-Depression-5409.aspx

I’m not so sure those policies died with FDR.

Couldn’t happen to a better target than that ObamaBot Gary Locke. He disproves the stereotype that all Asians are smart.

I hope your comment was made tongue in cheek. I live in WA state and know about Locke. HOWEVER, I would not wish any US citizen harm by a mob...especially in a foreign country.

What I find most peculiar...from my understanding of China politics...there is no way that mob would have been able to form w/o Chinese govt sanction.

No THAT...I find most disturbing for the safety of US officials.

Indeed, PassiveaggressiveMonkey. Apologies are too much to expect apparently.

You post starts with the condescending "People would do well to remember this is the PRC. The Chi-coms."

Yes, in fact, everyone knows that. Thanks!

Then you went on to denigrate all these Chinese protesters as mere puppets of the government, conveying a diplomatic warning to the USA by, uh something....uh... showing up at a Japanese embassy protest first to make the secret message to the USA perfectly clear, to well, to you at least.

My response called you on both points, and now rather than back up your assertions, you pine for apologies to you? lol.

these commies ought to be throwing rose petals and singing songs of praise to the ambassador. The our traitorous US politicians and once USA (now global) corporations that brought them into the first world, and Wal-Mart destroyed our economy but made banksters rich.

Now instead of riding bicycles the Chinese are driving Buicks and building ICBMs, stealth aircraft, driving the price of energy up and making crappy products with cyanide etc in it that they sell to us.

I can understand they want their money back, but “imperialism”? Right now the Chicoms are in a better position to be imperialists than the US. Same exact thing happened to Mexico with France and Egypt with Britain. Chicoms will invade the US and take over because Obama borrowed money to buy used cars, start “shovel-ready” projects, and “stimulate” the economy. Mexico lost a war and a lot of territory to the US, and couldn’t pay back France. Egypt built the Suez Canal, and Britain wanted more security for their loan. The US built what with the money borrowed from China?

You’re absolutely correct. Nothing like this could happen without authorization from the Chinese polituro. They were sending a message. There was no danger to the Ambassador, but it was an “in your face” insult at a time when Americans (if not the American government) still have an open wound because of what happened in Libya.

I think it is to show the Islamic radicals around the world that China is not afraid to be disrepectful to the United States also.

... all the way back to the “Rape of Nanking” in the late 1930s. Maybe even further than that.

Further than that.

The Knights of Bushido: A Short History of Japanese War Crimes

"Short" being a relative term - 352 pages in the cited edition.

This is the classic, standard account of Japanese war crimes; a best seller in its time, but out of print for many years. Between 1931 and 1945 Japanese troops rampaged through one defeated country after another, executing civilians, despoiling cities, massacring prisoners and cruelly exploiting prisoners of war and native populations. This carefully constructed history charts this brutal swathe of destruction, objectively examines individual crimes and details the reasons behind Japan's unprecedented disregard for accepted humanitarian principles. Japanese troops behaved with considerable brutality in their war against China a campaign designed 'to punish the people of China'. The Nanking massacre of December 1937 was just one example of the appalling series of atrocities the Japanese inflicted on the conquered Chinese. Japan also excelled in the mistreatment of prisoners of war. Allied troops unfortunate enough to fall into Japanese hands were abused, humiliated, starved and forced to serve as slave labor. This sweeping indictment of atrocities committed by the forces of the Rising Sun is a detailed and carefully documented study and one which throws light onto one of the most disturbing episodes of World War II.

Leon Panetta, was meeting with senior Chinese leaders to reassure them that the US does not intend to "contain" China by building up a military presence in Asia.

Thank GOD, that the fearless SecDef was there to assure them that we would do nothing with our military!!

As a Chinese strategist once observed, “Now, when your weapons are dulled, your ardor damped, your strength exhausted and your treasure spent, other chieftains will spring up to take advantage of your extremity. Then no man, however wise, will be able to avert the consequences that must ensue.”

Our strength, in a great many ways, is exhausted. It was only a matter of time before ‘other chieftains’ began to capitalize on our weakness.
