MSNBC Tops Fox News On Back-To Back Nights In Primetime Demo
TV Newser ^ | 9/19/2012 | Alex Weprin

Posted on 09/19/2012 2:38:55 PM PDT by My Favorite Headache

Last night, for the second night in a row, MSNBC beat Fox News in primetime (8-11pm) in the key adults 25-54 demo. On Monday MSNBC averaged 471,000 demo viewers to Fox News Channel’s 469,000. On Tuesday, MSNBC drew 575,000 demo viewers, to FNC’s 526,000. We will have the full ratings numbers in The Scoreboard a little later on.

The number one show in the demo on cable news is always, always “The O’Reilly Factor” unless there is some sort of unusual news event or huge booking.

Last night, there was no big news event, but the number one show in the demo was MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show.” This is despite the fact that O’Reilly had a big (and younger-skewing) guest in Comedy Central’s Jon Stewart. Maddow at 9pm drew 703,000 demo viewers to O’Reilly’s 682,000 at 8pm.

Last night in head to head match ups, MSNBC’s “The Ed Show” was fewer than 200,000 viewers behind the “Factor” in the demo, while Maddow and “The Last Word” had clean wins over “Hannity” and “On the Record,” respectively. In total viewers, O’Reilly doubled “Ed” in the ratings, while “Hannity” led Maddow by 206,000 viewers. At 10 PM, “On the Record” topped “The Last Word” by 100,000 total viewers.

FNC remains the top cable news channel in total viewers, but advertisers buy against adults 25-54 (that is why we have always led with the demo in The Scoreboard), so this shift has the potential to be a seismic one if MSNBC can maintain it.

I used to watch oreilly in it’s regular time slot. I no longer do. I DVR the early showing and watch a few segments after our local news. Most of the segments are of no interest to me.

The model of debating libtards has grown tiresome. These people are so demented and have so many mental problems, I just don’t care to see them anymore.

What you said. I've just had my fill of Hannity having on Beckel, Juan Williams, Tamara Holder and the rest of the nutjobs.

Put Beck back on and they will drop below CNN

Doesn’t anyone see that it’s Hannity that sucks?

I watch FoxBusiness..”

Gave up on FOX months ago and only watch FOX Business. It’s a great channel. Only problem is that I have Direct TV and it does cost more per month to be able to see them. Between FOX Business and FR, I find out everything I need to know. Haven’t watched any local news for quite a while.

Speaking of which...betcha Beck is why Fox News is down in the ratings...Blaze TV is live and launched this week on Dish Network.

Bingo!!

For the past week, we've been watching The Blaze (Dish 212) and Fox Business News (Dish 206) during prime time (unless the SF Giants are playing, of course).

As an aside, Ted Baxter debating John Stewart on pay-per-view is the most asinine idea since O'Reilly was capitalizing on Beck's success two years ago. I've always maintained that it was O'Reilly who got Beck bounced from Fox News because I believe he knew Beck would eventually get his slot. Now Beck can kill two birds with one stone ...sweet.

And don't even get me started about "FAIR and balanced."

O’Reilly and maddow aren’t even on at the same time. Drudge has the ratings, and FOX is millions of viewers ahead of MSNBC.

Great. People finally start paying attention and they have to tune into the White House propaganda channel.

I’ve been trying to avoid watching Fox since Ailes publically banned Newt from ever appearing on the channel again. When I tune in, it seems to be rarer and rarer that they have any staunchly conservative guests on at all. Luckily a new talk radio station started here so I have two conservative stations to choose from. So during prime time I can turn on Levin, Limbaugh and Deace instead of Fox.

Oh, for Pete's sake.

These aren't overall numbers, they're the ratings for one age group. It's the demographic that advertisers like, but it certainly doesn't reflect the number of TV sets tuned in.

I’m enjoying Steve Deace’s radio show more than anything else on TV or radio now. He’s willing to call out the liberals in both the D and the R parties unlike anyone else. It’s sort of like listening to FR in audio form. Not too many others I know of who are as staunch on the social conservatism as they are on the fiscal conservatism.

How do those of us who have Cox Cable get Blaze TV?

The Fox line-up didn’t talk about the “super secrety Romney secret embarrassment tape” and messdnc and CCCPNN covered it like a blanket. I switched over to catch some of the histrionics for a few minutes.

Yep, you can listen live or listen to previous episodes in the podcast archives. Mark Steyn was a guest yesterday.

Conservatives are migrating away from Fox and to Internet, social media for news.

I had no idea about it until you just mentioned it. Ailes seems like a real jerk and he has made some terrible decisions as of late which leads to this decline.

Here are Fox's turnoffs:

Sound effects/animated graphics

tamara holder

juan williams

Staged shouting matches are tired

The other side or fair and balanced translates to the socialistic viewpoint. the largest segment of viewers do not want to be an audience for that propaganda. Kirtsen Powers and even Joe Tripi are acceptable, but that's about it from the left bench

Canceling DISH next Monday, and when they want to know why I'll inform them that FNC is the last remaining channel watched, but I won't due to the crap list I just posted
