Romney Campaign Cautious With Ad Budget, Even in Key States [Romney Must Sack Chief Strategist!]

Romney Campaign Cautious With Ad Budget, Even in Key States By JEREMY W. PETERS and NICHOLAS CONFESSORE September 19, 2012

Despite what appears to be a plump bank account and an in-house production studio that cranks out multiple commercials a day, Mr. Romney’s campaign has been tightfisted with its advertising budget, leaving him at a disadvantage in several crucial states as President Obama blankets them with ads.

One major reason appears to be that Mr. Romney’s campaign finances have been significantly less robust than recent headlines would suggest. Much of the more than $300 million the campaign reported raising this summer is earmarked for the Republican National Committee, state Republican organizations and Congressional races, limiting the money Mr. Romney’s own campaign has to spend.

With polls showing President Obama widening his lead in some of these states and the race a dead heat in others, Mr. Romney’s lack of a full-throttle media campaign is risky, especially as he struggles to get his message out over the din of news about his campaign’s recent setbacks.

If Romney wins, all of the expert advise about how he should have conducted his campaign will mean nothing. If he does not win, it will still mean nothing. He had four years to put together his game plan and his history does not indicate that he is a “fly by the seat of his pants” type individual. He may not be flashy, but he is steady and disciplined and I doubt that we will see him do something monumentally stupid like when McCain suspended his campaign to rush back to Washington and fix the economy. Some of his beliefs and policies may be questioned, but I don’t think there is any doubt that he is fully committed to defeating Oboma.

If Mitt’s strategy was to wait until October, a massively stupid idea.

He’s letting the Democrats define him. Once they do that, it’s over....he needed to attack from the get go.

Obama told the DNC to pound sand and pay their own bills (and some of his)

Romney should do the same.

Early voting will be starting soon. Now is not the time to keep your powered.

It’s time to start firing!

If you read the article, it is clear the NY Times reporters are frustrated that Romney has not broadcast his plans for ad spending.

But from what I’ve read, Romney is going to stun the media and Obama with an onslaught, never seen before.

Personally, it is a risky strategy. Romney was mostly silent all summer. And then was supposed to start carpet bombing after RNC. And then delayed that. Now it’s in October. (I live in NH and have seen ZERO Romney ads. While Obama’s ads run all day.)

Let’s see.

And in NH Romney is now leading (Rasmussen). Could it be Obama ads are falling on deaf ears, and the Romney campaign will only spend where it sees it needs to?

According to Gallup, single white women, separated, divorced, or widowed, voted “OVERWHELMINGLY” for Obama in 2008.

This demographic appears poised to send him to the WH again. A gender gap of 19-points spells doom.

Time to sack Ed Gillespie, Stuart Stevens, Reince Priebus etc. It’s time to use the brass knuckles. Run endless ads of Rats booing GOD during DNC, Gay Marriage etc. Attack, Attack, Attack, or Lose.

Here in NW Florida the only political ad I have heard on radio is an ad explaining how Romney would end Medicare and Medicaid and throw Grandma out of the nursing home. It is repeated at every ad break.

Romney is winning today. Honest polls show it and the campaigns internals surely show it. If some of these conservative observers don’t get it it’’s becauses they are getting their “news” from CNN and the NYT. “Rope-A-Dope”?? I guess like the 3 months between Okinawa and Hiroshima were “Rope-A-Dope” Those Japanese really had us down.

I’ve seen Romnmey TV ads in Hampton Roads, VA, but at least a third more for the Obamanation. I expect that to change shortly. The Romney campaign may be running more ads in N. VA (Arlington area) because that’s stronger for Obama than Hampton Roads.

Yes, but I don’t see anything out here. Not ads, not bumper stickers, not yard signs.”

Texas may not be a really good state to use as an example, but we are just now opening up campaign headquarters offices all over the state. Signs are being delivered and we do have an assortment of bumper stickers available, but don’t expect to see as many because nobody I know wants their car vandalized.

It takes a great deal of time and money to switch from state to federal elections and gear up. Our primary season went on forever because of court battles over redistricting and runoffs because of hard fought battles. IMO because of most people’s short attention span two months is quite enough time. Thank God we don’t have to put up with a lot of TV ads - had enough of that during the primaries.

I saw something creative done today. Someone put their bumper sticker (didn't see what it said, the car went by too fast) on their windshield sun shade visor. The sticker was visible when the visor was flipped down. You can drive with it flipped down and the sticker showing. When you're ready to park the car, flip it up and no one (with evil intent) can see it.

Its not like there is not enough material from just the last four years. They could even have several themes/subjects going.

- There is the Israel subject. Starting with the disrespect of the Israeli prime minister, asking that Israel move back to the '67 (?) borders, removing Jerusalem from the party platform, and refusing to meet with Bibi, while hanging out with Letterman, Beyonce e.t.c.

- There is the EPA subject, with the lawsuits and war on the coal and oil industry.

- Attack on the freedom of religion, covering up christian symbols at Georgetown, lawsuits against church backed institutions (including the one that was overwhelmingly swatted down by the USSC), abortion mandates against church backed institutions, and finally removing God from the party platform. End it with booing and rejecting God three times.

I could go on, but these are just examples.
