To Claim Virginia, Obama’s Hopes Rest On Women

By Karen Tumulty and Scott Clement September 19

In a presidential election where women’s issues have taken a more prominent role than many expected, the crucial swing state of Virginia is becoming the Grand Canyon of gender gaps.

A new Washington Post survey indicates that President Obama holds a 19 percentage-point lead (58 to 39) among likely women voters in the commonwealth, yet is running six points behind Republican nominee Mitt Romney among men who are likely to vote (44 to 50). That support from women is the reason the president now enjoys an eight-point advantage overall in Virginia.

Virginia is a state Mitt Romney is fighting hard to win, but the latest poll shows the president holding a steady lead. But, the big surprise is President Obama is beating Romney on Romney's core issue - the economy.

There has long been a disparity between women and men in their voting patterns — a phenomenon first identified and named the “gender gap” during Ronald Reagan’s presidency.

This year, however, ginning up female support has become an imperative for Obama in his reelection bid. Across the electoral map, the Obama campaign is banking on women to offset an expected loss to Romney among men

LOL of course they will-.

All you have to do is look at the man vs women voting breakdowns of every single state/federal election.

While of course (emphasis added) I agree women should always continue to have suffrage, we wouldn’t have 90% of any of the Dems in congress or presidency, period, since Jimmy Carter or maybe even before him, if women couldn’t vote.

Things have worked out so well for women lately it’s hard to imagine them as a monolith supporting anyone but obama...

Clown-logic at it’s best. Even single mothers want to get ahead, rather than wait for a check in the mailbox.

Yeah, we conservatives want to punish women for carrying their children to term and perservering and loving and nurturing them. The dems offer an easy way out so they are not punished with children.

brief citation. Though it takes a lot of patience and googling to look at each election individually. I will say 90% as I posted because it is not ALWAYs the case. Carter men broke for 50 to 48.

You don't have to donate money to the Romney campaign to make a difference. (You should donate money to FreeRepublic.)

Help Romney Beat Obama Without Donating Money.

I've made 1800 phone calls from home to New Hampshire in the last seven days using the system set up by the campaign. Even 100 calls will make a difference. Who will join me?

When viewing pro-obama tweets on Twitter, I could not help but notice that by far the majority of tweets were from women and black people. Try it.

To win Virginia Obama hopes that the Conservatives stay home! They won’t, they want him out of office pronto!

He’s good looking, a snazzy dresser, and has a good line-he promises free stuff for everybody. What’s not for a woman to like?

I really don’t get many women nowadays. Where does all this contraception and abortion get them? Alone, single, older without kids, most often divorced, and lonely — that’s mostly what I see as I work with and encouter a lot of older women — and they ain’t all that happy, from what I can tell. I guess it’s all fun and games when your’e young, but as time goes on, that bit gets old.

So, add to that, they’ll also be unemployed, and increasingly dependent on someone else to pull them along.

I just don’t see what’s so attractive about all of that.

And I’m a woman myself.

If you think about it, contraception, abortion, etc. separates men and women. It keeps them apart, keeps them from working together, cooperating, compromising. More and more people remain single now ...which means more and more people will not have enough pooled resources to support themselves.

I just dread the future sometimes.

It seems to me that the attempt to redifine narriage is aimed at more than just homosexuals but rather to include groups of people.

This is a serious breakdown of civilized norms. I worry too.

Women voters have been the problem?

How about all the old people who voted for Obama?

How about all the idiots who are a product of public education who voted for Obama?

I’m seeing a trend on FR that I don’t like, and it’s all ‘women are what’s wrong”.

IS this FR or did I wander into an alternate universe where FreeRepublic has become Sharia?

Lemme see now - - - . (Think like a Democrat, think like a Democrat. Got it!)

After almost 4 years of sending her sons and daughters out of the house to look in vain for jobs, The Women of Virginia should vote for 4 more years of sending her sons and daughters out of the house to look in vain for jobs. (Nailed it!)

Well the problem, with all sorts of people, is that plenty of people, man or woman, really don’t get the big picture nowadays. Procrastination or dodging the concept of commitment and/or responsibility for some future time, only to find out that once you finally want to do it, it’s become so hard to do it. The whole cohabitation issue is perhaps one of the biggest ones out there, add that to rampant personal bankruptcy, and the aging crisis, as you pointed out, and we’re pretty much due for a worldwide “natural selection” event. It’s sad, but it’s likely to happen, and there isn’t much that really can happen except slow it down.

I also agree with you, strangely enough, on the whole separation issue as well. There seems to be a wedge in successful relationships between the genders, although my would-be wife gave me the perfect message and inspiration when I dated here: “Are we really going anywhere with this?” to which I responded “yes”, and the rest is history.

Why are liberal women and left-leaning independent women falling all over themselves to vote for Obama?

In my opinion, 25% of them look to Obama to be their father. They're insecure, not making as much money as they think they're worth, they have health worries, no one has ever asked for their hands in marriage, their dates are total busts......and here's Sugar Daddy Obama with the world's biggest stash of other peoples' money at his disposal.....and he's gonna re-distribute it to all his good little girls if they vote for him.....so they will do just that.

Another 25% look on Obama as a substitute for the bums they're married to. He's trim, and hubby has a huge, floppy spare tire. He runs up and down airplane stairs with a jaunty bounce, hubby is winded after the first 6 steps. Obama takes his family to exotic places, hubby thinks going to a Chicago Bears game after a tailgate hot dog in the stadium parking lot is a vacation. These women will vote en masse for Obama just to keep their dream alive that someday hubby will be just like the Won....the perfect, rich, energetic, successful mate.

Another 25% of the womens' vote will consist of liberal/unhappy/unhinged/frustrated ditzes who will vote for Obama because he's the perfect lover they dream of in their more naughty moments. He's so cool. No wonder he's called the black Frank Sinatra.....dooby doooby do, do do dee do ya......cool and sexy. While they don't throw their panties at him, they go to his rallies and cheer and marvel at his command, his good looks, his perfect hair and manicure, his white shirt open at the neck, his slim black pants, the nose up in the air.....and his coolness. Oh, to spend one night with him.....maybe even an autograph at a rally can be hoped for, maybe a handshake, that famous toothy grin, that haughty air, all that free love stuff......oh, oh, ooo, ooo, ahhhhhhhhhh......four more years of him, yes, yes, yes......oh, my gawd.....arghhhh.....mmm, mmm, mmm.

The final 25% of the women will vote for Obama because they still think they're voting for FDR......and like FDR, Obama will get the country out of the current depression and of course, he'll be a champion for lots more entitlements and freebies. Happy days will be here again, the skies above will be clear again, so let's sing a song of cheer again, happy days are here again.

Leni
