Democrats block GOP rewrite of immigration priorities
Washington Times ^ | 9/21/2012 | Steven Dinan

House Democrats defeated the broadest immigration reform effort yet in this Congress, voting down a bill on Thursday that would have ended the random visa lottery and replaced it with a system rewarding high-tech foreign graduates from U.S. universities.

The vote showed neither side is ready to break the stalemate that has foiled every major immigration bill for the past decade.

This latest effort would have tried to rewrite the country’s immigration priorities, shifting away from random chance and toward picking skilled workers that Republicans said could boost the U.S. economy.

“Unfortunately, Democrats today voted to send the best and brightest foreign graduates back home to work for our global competitors,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Lamar Smith, Texas Republican, who wrote the bill. “Democrats voted against a bill that helps American businesses hire the most qualified foreign graduates.”

Most Democratic opponents said they didn’t oppose visas for high-tech graduates, but objected to canceling the random chance visa lottery. Democrats said the lottery is a key way that the U.S. gets immigrants from countries that don’t have long-standing business or family ties to the United States.

Black, Hispanic and Asian Democrats all urged their colleagues to block the move.

Hopefully the GOP is serious about elimination the visa lottery system - they may have a chance to try again, with hope for a better outcome, very soon.

Ummm . . . The Pubbies are the majority in the House.

How then, is it possible for House Democrats to stop/block anything?

This is something they should have passed almost 50 years ago—as soon as Kennedy got the whole lottery system through.

Odd, I thought the Republicans controlled the House?

Mr. Smith’s bill earned a majority in the House, 257-158, but fell 20 votes shy of the two-thirds vote needed under expedited House rules. Only 30 Democrats voted for it — well short of the number GOP leaders had expected to join them.

Amazing that some republicans are still trying to win votes they never had or ever will. For now, the goal is to retain the house, but we will have to clean out the rinos next time.

Since the legislation is going nowhere in the Senate, the House has been holding votes under a suspension of the rules, which requires a supermajority, in order to draw political contrasts on issues with popular support.

Assuming there are 30 million illegals in America, that’s enough to create some 50 congressional districts and they don’t even need to vote to do it. If they do vote, you can pretty much count on those districts being almost exclusively democrat. As it is we don’t know how many districts exist almost wholly due to the presence of illegals.

The costs of administering a single district must run into the millions. How much pork can a district seek? How many earmarks? What will all those new democrat congressmen vote for?

If you think Obamacare is bad, you haven’t seen squat. Wait till the day all those democrats start dictating how many cars a family can have, what job you can have, or where you can live. Wait till they dictate that all paychecks come from government and you get a small cut of what is left over.

Illegals are nothing but government growth hormone and amnesty today is nothing short of treason.

Until some Demonicrat politicians are indicted, tried, convicted, and sentenced for treason for giving aid and comfort to the enemy, things are not likely to get better.

IN other words, the Dems don’t want self reliant people. They want those who will become dependent upon the government and vote Democrat.

Don’t blame just Democrats!

In Texas, businessmen love illegal aliens. The construction industry and agriculture industry exploit illegal alien workers because they can get away with paying low wages and thus ratcheting up their profits. When illegals end up unemployed, the general public pays for those folk’s welfare.

Until the Federal government begins arresting and jailing those people, Democrats and Republicans alike who are profiting off of illegal aliens, this will continue unabated.
