Political Insider: Dan Cathy took part in Chick-fil-A talks on gay rights
Atlanta Journal-Constitution ^ | 9/22/12 | Jim Galloway

Posted on 09/22/2012 8:39:51 AM PDT by madprof98

August was a busy month at Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta, especially when it came to the topic of gay marriage.

On Wednesday, a Chicago alderman had dropped his objections to the first standalone Chick-fil-A restaurant in his city, after the fast-food franchise persuaded him that it had withdrawn from the political battle over same-sex marriage.

Several weeks of negotiations with Chick-fil-A executives had produced internal company guidelines that prohibit discrimination in hiring and customer service. Alderman Joe Moreno also said that, in August, executives of the family-held firm also opened the books of Chick-fil-A’s charitable foundation, to prove that it no longer gave money to groups opposing same-sex unions.

Less known is the fact that, at the same time, Chick-fil-A was also holding talks with Campus Pride, a gay rights organization based in Charlotte, N.C., that had targeted the several hundred Chick-fil-A outlets on college campuses with an “education” campaign.

College students eat a lot of chicken sandwiches.

Shane Windmeyer, executive director of Campus Pride, paid his most recent visit to Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta last Monday, after which he announced the suspension of his group’s campaign. Windmeyer said he, too, was given a chance to preview Chick-fil-A’s new hiring and service policy. He, too, was offered evidence that the company’s WinShape Foundation no longer gives money to groups considered hostile to gay rights.

****

One presumes that Chick-fil-A will attempt to draw a line between Cathy family giving and its corporate largesse. How that sells is a matter for the future.

In accord with FreeperPC--more or less the opposite of what goes on among the cultural elites--I won't say that Chik-fil-A has caved. But the company has been making friends with Moreno and the Pride team while plenty of people here have been buying caps and sandwiches.

Chic-fil-A should make commercials that claim that eating their product will cure gayness and imbue a sense of well-being that comes with being normal...

Suuure he was. And whoss word do we have on this? Shane's, of course!

Contrary to reports first made by the gay-activist group The Civil Rights Agenda (TCRA) on Tuesday and later picked up by mainstream media outlets, Chick-fil-A and its charitable-giving arm, the WinShape Foundation, did not agree to stop making donations to groups that support the biblical definition of marriage in exchange for being allowed to open a franchise in Chicago.

You put this counter-statement out as if it were a quote from the company rather than an assertion by a spokesperson for Focus on the Family. I’m sure the group wants to remain on the Cathys’ good side, but that does not mean the AJC column is incorrect about what CFA promised the gays to get them to back off.

Sounds to me like they caved. I found the following text on Chick-Fil-A’s own website; their official response. There’s a link to a pdf file about their corporate giving that’s PASSWORD PROTECTED. I mean really, that’s idiotic. Why would you put a password protected pdf on a page that’s supposed to be a public response ?

When it comes down to backing down to sodomites wanting people to say ok to sodomy, it’s better to just shut down the corporation. Let everyone lose their jobs, let the government get less tax revenue, time to forget it. The line about not supporting social agendas is code for yes, they backed down. The even included the nice sexual orientation line.

Here’s their response:

For many months now, Chick-fil-A’s corporate giving has been mischaracterized. And while our sincere intent has been to remain out of this political and social debate, events from Chicago this week have once again resulted in questions around our giving. For that reason, we want to provide some context and clarity around who we are, what we believe and our priorities in relation to corporate giving.

A part of our corporate commitment is to be responsible stewards of all that God has entrusted to us. Because of this commitment, Chick-fil-A’s giving heritage is focused on programs that educate youth, strengthen families and enrich marriages, and support communities. We will continue to focus our giving in those areas. Our intent is not to support political or social agendas.

As we have stated, the Chick-fil-A culture and service tradition in our restaurants is to treat every person with honor, dignity and respect – regardless of their belief, race, creed, sexual orientation or gender. We will continue this tradition in the over 1,600 restaurants run by independent Owner/Operators.

For better understanding of our corporate giving, please click here to download the PDF document titled “Chick-fil-A: Who We Are.”

Of course they caved. The college market can double their earnings. Cathy never should have said a word. Now they are as dead as Susan Komen to me.

It makes no sense for Chick-fil-a to cave to the queers period. Their business is up. This article is published in one of the most leftist of left rags going on the alleged news market of rags today the Atlanta Journal Constitution.

I don’t buy it. Some other means by the Left to disillusion those of us on the right is what I see.

There are so many lies out there for the purpose of disillusionment of the Right on all matters leading to the elections in November.

If this is what I think it is — and i am happy to be shown that I am wrong — Dan Cathy just spit in the face of the 500K-plus supporters who flooded his establishments a few weeks ago to show their support for him in the face of virulent radical homosexual and MSM attacks.

I guess he doesn’t know this simple lesson: Never negotiate with terrorists. (And, yes, the gay militants are ethical and moral and cultural TERRORISTS!)

Just sitting down with them was a sell-out. Was opening one store in Chicago worth compromising the stand he had made?

Until my perceptions are proven to be incorrect, I am done with Chick-Fila.

Homosexual Rights? (I never call them gay because those people are anything but happy and joyful). They have the same rights as I or any other American has. Nothing MORE. End of Discussion.

I’m just curious as to how a city can deny a building permit based on someones political leanings or personal beliefs?

I’m not a scholar or anything but it sounds a little like the government is smashing someones right to free speech.

Now on the other hand, if a completely liberal doosh company wanted to build a chicken stand in Chicago it would sail right through the process.

Way to go, Chik-Fila — grabbing defeat from the jaws of victory and handing the Gay Mafia another win.

Nobody should look to companies for salvation or other things. If you like the food, eat it. If you want to buy a product, buy it. You should NEVER look to a company for your morals. Go to church and get your morals and principles there.

A lot of us, me included, feel used by these people.

Until their is clear EVIDENCE that they have not cut off their giving to a single group that supports real marriage, I simply will not step into their restaurants anymore.

(and good, because it was costing me a lot more than McDonald’s).

No one is looking to companies for salvation or morals.

Dan Cathy happens to be a man, not a company. He is the one that caved.

Oh, he happens to be the head of a very prominent company that has been under attack by the Left and defended by many Christians and conservatives in this country.

Cathy caved. When someone caves, there are consequences. Not in the quality of the chicken, but in the morale of those who had SHOWN HIM SUPPORT!

It is no tangible loss to me, as I rarely eat there.

It is very demoralizing to see someone who has hitherto nobly stood foursquare for Christian principles — and who has been the beneficiary of widespread support by Christian and God-fearing Amercians — cave under pressure from what Michael Savage has aptly termed “The Purple Mafia.”

It has nothing to do with looking to companies for morals or salvation.

Chick-Fil-A is still a godly company intent on extending that influence in this world. I believe they just wanted to communicate that their restaurants aren’t out to decline service to the general public and don’t have a discrimination policy either. As Christians, we are commended on being wise in this world without compromising.

They caved but are savvy to admit it. Face it we’re all suckers. Giving them tons of business and support just so they’d sell out to the PC squeaky wheel crowd. Nobody stands up for conservative values and stays standing. They all buckle like lil bitches.

Done with all of them.

Bingo. Conservatives are basically alone on an island in this country...heck in this left wing PC world. We only get used for votes or whatever then tossed aside.
