Anderson Cooper admits that CNN found slain American ambassador's journal inside U.S. consulate in Libya and 'secretly' used it in reporting (full Title)

.•CNN found Ambassador Christopher Stevens' personal journal on the floor at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi
•Journal consisted of seven handwritten pages in a hard-bound book
•Network says it notified Stevens' family at once and handed over the journal

CNN host Anderson Cooper admitted on Friday that the network had come across the late Ambassador Christopher Stevens' personal journal and used parts of it in its reporting without disclosing the source.

On Wednesday on his show Anderson Cooper 360, the journalist told Senator John McCain that 'a source familiar with Ambassador Stevens' thinking told us that in the months before his death he talked about being worried about the never-ending security threats that he was facing in Benghazi, and specifically about the rise in Islamist extremism and growing al Qaeda presence.' Cooper added that 'the source also mentioned [Stevens] being on an al Qaeda hit list.'

Two days later, Cooper acknowledged that the network had obtained Stevens' journal, and that some of the information regarding the late ambassador’s thought process in the months leading to the deadly September 11, 2012, attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was drawn from his entries.

You would think the state department would of been the ones at a crime( embassy terrorist attack) scene, and why was CNN allowed to handle and make decisions on evidence.

from the article

Lucky find: Stevens' handwritten journal was discovered by CNN on the first floor of the burnt out U.S. consulate in Benghazi (four days after attack)

from pictures at the link, the CNN version of this story sounds a little suspect. (imo)

Well played. That’s probably how it went down. Anderson took one for the team.

It was probably sold to the highest bidder.
And since not even the FBI could get into the country , one has to wonder about the source.
And if it was bought from someone who had assaulted the building , they would be A Q synmpathizer or Libyan military.
If it was bought from A Q, could CNN be charged with aideing and abetting Al Q ??

The better question, given the current posture of the American legal system , is would they even be prosecuted ?

"How did they get ahold of it?"

Seeing as CNN never met a terrorist or murdering dictator that they didn't like, they probably bought the journal from one of the terrorists who attacked the consulate that night.

"I’m curious as to what other papers, notebooks and files that were just left behind."

I heard they found the missing top-secret documents stolen from the Archives by Sandy Burger, the 18 minutes missing from the Nixon tape, and the missing pages from John Wilkes Booth's Diary.

Since he's been co-opted by Obamugabe as Director of the CIA, Petraeus is very unlikely to go public on that issue. He's a good man for the Director's job but he's been effectively muzzled (Muzzied?)

This story comes out today, yet Hillary still denies/lied today in a CNN article.

Does CNN also have the missing files with lists of names and oil contracts?

How did the State dept determine that files were missing within the first day or two (it was reported)and yet CNN gets this journal four days later?

http://www.cnn.com/2012/09/20/world/africa/libya-investigation/index.html
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said Thursday she has “absolutely no information or reason to believe there is any basis” to suggest that U.S. Ambassador to Libya Chris Stevens believed he was on an al Qaeda hit list.

The remark came after a source familiar with Stevens’ thinking told CNN that in the months leading up to his death, Stevens worried about constant security threats in Benghazi and mentioned that his name was on an al Qaeda hit list.

Stevens spoke about a rise in Islamic extremism and al Qaeda’s growing presence in Libya, the source said.

The White House, for the first time Thursday, declared the attack that killed Stevens and three other people a terrorist attack.

I am wondering how CNN was allowed in a war torn country right after an attack?
