MSNBC president Phil Griffin spoke to The Hollywood Reporter‘s Marisa Guthrie about his network, and the state of the cable news competition.

Griffin was candid, saying that there is a certain Fox News personality he would love to poach:

THR: Is there an on-air personality on another network that you would like to have? Griffin: Yes. I don’t know if I should say this. [Fox News anchor] Shep Smith. I just like his way. I like everything about him.

Let MSNBC Have Shep...then give Dennis Miller his time slot.

Oh yeah, maybe a Greg Gutfeld/Dennis Miller combo show. That would be awesome.

If Shep and Anderson Cooper were younger, they’d probably hook up, but I expect they’d both turn into a couple of bickering old queens. Might make for some funny TV. For us, I mean.

Lou Dobbs on the Fox Business Network is an awesome alternative to Shep in the 7:00 pm hour.

"Nipping at the heels"?

Ummmm "The cable news ratings for the third quarter of 2012 are in... Fox News dominated as usual, taking the top ten cable news shows"

Proof is in the pudding.

Edited that a little...

Moving Shep to MSNBC would improve the quality of reporting on both networks.

He could go there and date Rachel Maddow, I hear she’s not married.

What, huh? Is that right? Well, oh uh.. nevermind.

MSNBC should hire Chris Wallace too. He gone from being obnoxious to out and out campaigning for Obama. Fox should fire him.

I thought MSNBC was headed for extinction. No? Microft was supposedly pulling out of the deal with NBC because they felt the network too liberal.

Did you see the post debate coverage on Fox?

They were unwilling to say the obvious. At one point, they appeared to be giving Obama the benefit of the doubt. They were bending over backward to be fair.

The irony here is to get unvarnished news, you had to go to MSNBC, where they were just nakedly crucifying Obama and going play by play in showing where he’d completely failed.

Fox better hire some journalists soon, or they need to start baring some midriff. You cannot get news on TV anymore - full stop. Brit Hume was just flaccid. Megan Kelly was pulling punches. It wasn’t until Pat Buchanon appeared with Greta (shudder) that Pat said, “Romney could not have done any better than he did tonight.”

The more I watch the debate again, the more clear it was that Obama’s defeat was absolute. There was literally no sound bite salvageable from any of it.

Shep would be addition by subtraction.

Agree 100%. Since his father died, I guess he decided he has to pick up the leftist legacy.
