WASHINGTON (AP) -- The U.S. unemployment rate fell to 7.8 percent last month, dropping below 8 percent for the first time in nearly four years and giving President Barack Obama a potential boost with the election a month away.

The rate declined from 8.1 percent because the number of people who said they were employed soared by 873,000 — an encouraging sign for an economy that's been struggling to create enough jobs.

The number of unemployed Americans is now 12.1 million, the fewest since January 2009.

in your face desperation manipulation,

they really are running scared to be so blatant,

and they know the MSM will shill it out as truth,

Pray that God will rebuke this evil

Rush Limbaugh predicted this months ago. The numbers would magically drop below 8% just before the election.

I’m sure on his radio show today he will play the archive recording of his prediction.

The press is having a love fest over this. Something to distract the public from Zero’s disastrous debate performance.

Obama ought to be able to explain specifically and exactly how this supposed surge of employment occurred. If the stats are legit he should have no trouble answering that question.

Of course we know what his answer will be: vague mush which amounts to “well it’s just because I’m so wonderful!”

7.8 pct. is a 44-month low?

Isn't that just more of an indictment of zero's incompetance?

agreed.. this regime is completely corrupt. who exactly did they have to threaten to get these numbers? I don’t believe this for one second.

Romney is going to have to respond to this. So millions upon millions fall off the charts and run out of their unemployment money, and then become permananently unemployed and we are supposed to believe the number is 7.8? notice how is 7.8 and not 7.9....??

Freepers think that Yahoo is a hard-left site which it is but people don;t understand that they’re smart enough to know they use it as a free email system and that’s it. It just happens they try to place AP-lefty articles to break you...just like mail.com, another AP owned propaganda machine.

Yes, the comments are a hoot LOL

I figured it out. Getting food stamps is now considered ‘employment’.

And not having to work for welfare effectively takes you out of the labor force.

Gangster government 101 is an excellent description of Lord Obozo and his Chitown Mafia Thugs running our government.

talking about these phony numbers.

Obama did not have time to prepare for the debate with Mitt Romney because he was working for the middle class getting them jobs, real jobs. Hiring 2 million teachers to work at Solyndra and Tesla Motors, and Fisker, and spiking the ball after killing Osama Bin Laden.

Truth be known the only jobs he has created in the last month were out sourced to the Libyan Embassy, following some unexpected and unfortunate openings.

We can all agree that he is responsible for those four job openings.

There might be one way for the GOP to blunt this “announcement”. In which states have these “employment gains” been realized? If there have been any gains at all, I’ll wager they’ll have occured in Republican governed states where spending reductions and low tax policies are allowing businesses to survive and flourish, such as Texas!

Romney should lead out with that along with the assertion that the unemployment rates have dropped because 700 thousand folks have simply dropped off the unemployment rolls and have given up looking for a job, hence the skewed numbers. (The real numbers of currently employed could be gained by the numbers of active w4 forms that show active witholding, for example)

In 2005, everyone I knew was employed. In 2012, 25% of the people I know are unemployed. Strange how a 2% difference according to the govt equals a 25% difference in my world.
