Dems hope Biden can blunt Romney momentum post-debate (desperation)
The Hill ^ | 10/5/12 | Niall Stanage and Amie Parnes

Posted on 10/05/2012 7:37:15 AM PDT by Lakeshark

Democratic strategists are eyeing the forthcoming debate between Vice President Biden and Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) with a mix of hope and nervousness in the wake of President Obama’s widely panned performance in his initial encounter with Mitt Romney Wednesday night.

On the plus side, some Democrats feel that a strong performance from Biden next Thursday could turn the page on the president’s near-debacle in Denver.

But they also worry that Biden’s legendary capacity to state his views in an inartful fashion could backfire. More prosaically, there is the possibility that the vice-presidential clash will be an insignificant sideshow, which would mean that Obama might have to wait until the second presidential debate on Oct. 16 before righting his ship.

Across the Democratic ranks, the reverberations from the president’s poor showing were clearly still being felt Thursday.
**snip**
Republican consultant Dan Judy said of the Biden-Ryan clash, “it will be entertaining but I don’t think it is likely to change voters’ minds.”

For Judy, unlike the Democratic strategists, that would suit him just fine:

“The president isn’t going to really have a chance to get his footing back until that second debate with Gov. Romney. He has never really found himself in that position in any campaign he has run,” Judy said. “It is going to be fascinating to see if he has the resilience to deal with it.”

Don’t kid yourself. Biden is a very good speaker and CAN beat out Romney. Be cautious. Remember, it’s the media’s game.

B.S. Biden like Obama had been shielded by the media and made to look smart. Although that is hard to do for Biden the man is a bumbling moron with a gaffe a minute, "They're going to put y'all in chains" "We want to raise taxes a trillion dollars" "Stand up Chuck!"

And the list goes on and on and on. Once the media protection is gone Ryan is going to DEMOLISH this bumbling, fumbling idiot. Ryan has experience, he's a good debater, he took apart Obama in the phony healthcare summit. Get ready this is going to be an ass kicking of monumental proportions.

I listened to the Palin/Biden debate...but did not watch it. I felt awful, as I thought Biden had ‘won’...although most people gave the victory to Palin.

What I noticed - Biden can lie with great conviction. And I mean just flat out make stuff up.

Example: Last debate, he said McCain had voted with Obama on a tax bill...turns out McCain was not present for that vote. It is very difficult to prepare for this type of complete fabrication...Palin certainly didn’t come in prepared to defend a vote that didn’t happen.

Another example - he denied Obama had said he would meet with Ahmedinajad. We all saw him make this statement during a nationally televised debate...but Biden emphatically claimed it did not happen. Again, very hard to prepare for such an altered reality.

I hope Paul Ryan is prepared for this. All politicians exagerrate to a degree at some point during a debate...butRyan has to be prepared for the unpredictable, out of left field, fabrication.

Some other whoppers we all remember: Katie’s restaurant (close 15 years prior), Home Depot on Union Street (there isn’t one), average guy Joey Danko (washington lobbyist). Its an endless list of complete fantasy.

You are absolutely correct.... basically no one listens to what Biden says while he’s saying it, they watch the performance. Sure afterwards they’ll point out gaffes etc. but that shouldn’t diminish the performance aspect.

Ryan will need to not just hit back with the facts, but show a level of gravitas aka... channel VP Cheney.

Biden is also his Senior, and thus Ryan needs to remain respectful without deferring to Biden.

It will certainly be an entertaining dance.

From Ryan's Bio:
[After working as a legislative aide for Former Wisconsin Senator Bob Kasten] Ryan became a speechwriter for Empower America (now FreedomWorks), a conservative advocacy group founded by Jack Kemp, Jeane Kirkpatrick, and William Bennett. Ryan later worked as a speechwriter for Kemp, the Republican vice presidential candidate in the 1996 United States presidential election. Kemp became Ryan's mentor, and Ryan cites him as a "huge influence." Ryan then worked for U.S. Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas before returning to Wisconsin in 1997.

Add to that his 14 years in Congress defending his economic plans, and you have the basis of a good debater. I thought that I had read someplace else that he had debate team experience, either in HS, or at Miami of Ohio, but I can't find it right now.

Biden is an idiot, but cannot be underestimated. He will be baiting Ryan big time. Ryan needs to be SHARP.

'Ol Joe is an old time politician who knows how to position his opponent for a right or left hook to the 'jaw'....Ryan is no beginner, but he is facing a salty old dawg who can still manipulate effectively.

If Ryan is as on top of the stats as Romney ... he’ll smoke Biden for sure.

“This is not what a real recovery looks like. We created fewer jobs in September than in August, and fewer jobs in August than in July, and we’ve lost over 600,000 manufacturing jobs since President Obama took office. If not for all the people who have simply dropped out of the labor force, the real unemployment rate would be closer to 11%. The results of President Obama’s failed policies are staggering – 23 million Americans struggling for work, nearly one in six living in poverty and 47 million people dependent on food stamps to feed themselves and their families.” - Mitt Romney 10/5/12

I hope Ryan knows many facts to counter Biden, who makes up his lying statistics and “facts” entirely out of wool cloth, on the spot, as he needs them, to support whatever lie he is promulgating. The man lies like a rug, and so quickly and adeptly it is close to impossible to keep up with them. He is so use to lying that he does it without a qualm, so he can be quite convincing. The media lets him get away with it, so if he is to be checked Ryan will have to do it during the debate.

BIDEN'S MOMENTS TO REMEMBER Biden will get all fuzzy and teary-eyed about the middle class "burden"---- and he loves to snick and snarl about theose horrid one percenters---but looky here---the lyin lowdown turkey doesn't mind pocketing Richie Rich's money. Read on.

NY POST PAGE SIX---Obama still has some friends in investment banking. Chad Leat, managing director and chairman of Alternative Asset Group — Investment Banking at Citigroup Inc, hosted a $10,000-a-plate dinner for Vice President Joe Biden on Aug. 24 at his home---The Barnyard in pricey Bridgehampton. Leat is described in Hamptons Cottages and Gardens mag as a “banker, dedicated equestrian and imaginative host,” with an “elegant, but hip” home. On the table for discussion will undoubtedly be the Obama economy and jobs. Probably not up for discussion will be that in 2008 Leat's employer Citigroup got Obama's $45 billion government bailout in two installments. (N-o-o-o connection, of course--/snix)

The Aug. 24 event, called "East End for Obama," featured a performance by singer James Taylor. Hosts included actress Julianne Moore, “Sopranos” star Edie Falco and Jane Holzer. An Obama fund-raiser in the exclusive Hamptons enclave of the rich---host Chesler bragged and e-mailed media that the event “began in the arts community out East but has morphed into what we understand will be the major Obama campaign event this summer in the Hamptons.” Tickets range from $500 to $10,000 to join the host committee and get a photo with Biden

MICHELE MALKIN REPORT: "Biden's son, Hunter Biden, was previously a top official at PARADIGM Global Advisors, a hedge-fund holding company founded with Vice President Biden’s brother, James, and marketed by convicted finance fraudster Allen Stanford. As Paradigm chairman, Hunter Biden oversaw half a billion dollars of client money invested in hedge funds while remaining a lobbyist. Cooper chipped in $2 million for the ill-fated venture, which went down in flames amid nasty fraud lawsuits." (NOTE Stanford is now in jail but the Biden's got off scot-free.)

"Hi there, Americans. Obama put me in charge of the trillion dollar stimulus. My son and brother are gonna help me disperse the money. "

Offshore Fraudster had links to offshore fund run by VP Biden's relatives
Reuters on Yahoo | 2/23/09 | BY Ajay Kamalakaran

(Reuters) – A fund of offshore hedge funds run by two members of VP Joe Biden's family was marketed exclusively by offshore firms controlled by Texas financier Allen Stanford, charged by regulators with an $8 billion fraud, the Wall Street Journal said.

The Bidens $50 million fund was jointly branded between the Bidens' Paradigm Global Advisors LLC and the offshore Stanford Financial Group entity headquartered in Antigua, and was known as the Paradigm Stanford Capital Management Core Alternative Fund, the paper said. Stanford-related offshore companies marketed the Biden fund to investors and also invested about $2.7 million of their own money in the fund, the paper said, citing a lawyer for Paradigm.

Paradigm Global Advisors is owned through a holding company by the vice president Biden's son, Hunter, and Joe Biden's brother, James, according to the WSJ. Paradigm's attorney, Marc LoPresti, who represents Hunter Biden and James Biden, as well as Paradigm, told the paper he did not know which Stanford entity invested the roughly $2.7 million. (Excerpt) Read more at news.yahoo.com ...

NOTE A lawyer for Hunter Biden and James Biden told reporters the Bidens NEVER met or communicated with Stanford. (/snicker)
