Ironically, I think this is partly due to Hollywood. They have made such a cult of the gun that, despite their professed hatred for the 2nd Amendment, they have mainstreamed the notion of gun ownership and self defense.
Which is why savvy politicians are going after shooting ranges and bullets via the EPA. You can have your gun, we’ll keep the bullets and the practicing.
