California gasoline prices jump 17 cents a gallon overnight
bottomline.nbcnews.com ^ | Braden Reddall, Reuters

Posted on 10/05/2012 12:27:23 PM PDT by Ernest_at_the_Beach

SAN FRANCISCO -- California gas prices rose 17 cents a gallon overnight due to supply disruptions at some refineries and seasonally low inventories, bringing the one-week increase in the Golden State to nearly 36 cents.

The average retail price of gasoline was $4.486 on Friday morning, up from $4.315 on Thursday and $4.131 a week ago, according to AAA data. The average price was $3.818 a year ago.

The average price is just 12 cents below the highest recorded statewide price of $4.61, which was reached in June of 2008.

"It's insane," said Matt Hurd, 35, who works in real estate. "Especially with this thing," he added, motioning toward his white SUV. "It's going to cost triple digits to fill it up."

In recent weeks, California refineries have dropped production in anticipation of switching over to a "winter blend" of gasoline next month.

At the same time, a power outage at Exxon Mobil Corp's Torrance, California refinery on Monday and a shutdown of the crude distillation unit at Chevron Corp's Richmond, California refinery contributed to the tight supplies.

I've been putting this sticker on gas pumps:

"Somehow we have to figure
out how to boost the price of
gasoline to the [$8-$10/gal]
levels in Europe." - Barack Obama's
Energy Secretary Steve Chu. Had enough yet???

I've sized mine to fit twelve to a sheet of easy to remove bumper sticker stock...

I will send a dozen stickers to anyone who FReepmails me their address.

I will send the Excel file to anyone who FReepmails me their email address, PROVIDED they promise to only use removable stock.

It would be funny to see Romney head to CA and give a speech at a gas station, replete with $5 gas prices. And say, “This is will be the norm if Obama is re-elected.”

Why not allocated half a day, maybe when in nevada, and hop across state line. It would scare the crap out of Chicago.

I still don’t know why they don’t hammer gas prices as much (Romney mentioned it once during debate - and Obama winced).

It impacts everyone. And it is a simple message, even for the low info voter ($1.79 on 1/09, EPA, Keystone, Obama on tape approving of $4 gas, ‘energy prices will skyrocket’, Chu on record wanting $10 gas, etc).

CA is so in the bag for 0bumble that I doubt that $10/gallon gas would tilt it for Romney. $5/gallon certainly won’t do it.

This goes WAY beyond “Bush’s fault”. Obviously, this is a dirty Republican Plot to try to make the Fearless Leader, that Californistan so dearly endorses, look bad just before the Most Important Election EVER.

Silicon Valley has been good to the Current Regime, and to some degree, he reciprocates by steering a lot of “green energy” projects their way.

Just because most of these projects have gone bust, no need to give up now. The very next one is going to be the breakthrough that negates all the high fossil energy costs and brings back the lollipops and balloons to LaLa land.

Yeah, all this crap about California is coming from people who think that wherever they are, they are safe from what’s happening here! While I decry the h high gas prices, I consider the delta my campaign contribution to Romney. If FUBO is re-elected, you will see these price levels all over the country, count on it!

You must keep in mind that California was a conservative state until the 1980s when a huge influx of Easterners started pouring in here bringing their Liberal c#*p with them. Just like what is happening in Colorado right now. It isn't us native Californians that have brought this on ourselves.

California Gas Prices Force Some Station Owners to Shut Pumps
http://gma.yahoo.com/california-gas-prices-force-station-owners-shut-pumps-064022563—abc-news-topstories.html
(video at link.)

“A gallon of regular gas was $5.69 Thursday in Calabasas, while a gallon of super costs $5.89 with cash and $5.99 with credit. Such prices are causing pain at the pump for many drivers who might see an 11-cent increase by later this morning, which means some could be paying more than $6 a gallon.”

Listening to a gentleman from GasBuddy being interviewed on KFI ,....didn't sound like it.

So all of the refinery have problems or in the process of switching over to the Winter blend of Gasoline required by the State,....

A pipeline is shut down because of some unapproved chlorine or whatever in the mix of product in the pipeline....

State regulations will not allow for much of the Gasoline available in other States ....like Nevada to be transported in because of California having higher standards that the US EPA.

He thought High Gas prices are going to be with us for awhile....

The Ticked Off Car Owner is a wind bag. Chris Matthews? What does this...this...person have to do with gas prices in California? The caller is typical, he knows something is wrong when he has trouble paying for gas, what happens when he has to make a choice between food and gas?
Or when he can’t get gas at any price because it’s being rationed?

California’s gasoline problems are not the result of crude shortages or general gasoline shortages but of a deliberate policy of creating unique blends and demanding the use of them.

If the price of gas was $10/gal. how many Californians would support more refinery capacity? Would the caller?

“Yep. BTW they know what ever happens here happens there, or will happen there.”

This country would never have been birthed at all if some of those who now are trying to “escape” the creeping Marxism, were our “founding fathers.” They have been “dumbed down” too, to think that “fleeing the scene” is preferable to “ standing and fighting.” At the end of the day, with that thought process, should it be the prevalent one, we will cease to exist, at least as the stellar place that was created by our founders. They talk about the Republicans “having no balls!”
Well, I submit that they lost their testicles somewhere along the way too!
