Nevada energy sends armed men to disconnect power – just for opting out (Smart Meter)

Nevada is supposedly one of those states with a smart meter ‘opt out’ policy. On the ground, however, the reality is a little different.

Mona Orkoulas lives in the mountains outside Las Vegas, Nevada, where she works in real estate. Like many Americans she has been impacted by the downturn in the economy and is struggling to make ends meet. Mona was born in the US and raised by an Egyptian/ Greek family. She has always paid her bills on time, and makes protecting her health a priority. For years Mona worked on humanitarian projects in the Middle East: drilling wells, and providing drinkable water and renewable power to remote villages. So she is familiar with the need for safe, reliable public services. Now, it turns out that she may need some humanitarian assistance herself — not in the developing world but right outside Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

The story starts when Nevada Energy (NVE) installed a ‘smart’ meter on Mona’s bedroom wall in January without permission, or even so much as a few days’ notice...

NOT just for “opting out!”
For removing the power company’s meter and replacing it with one of her own.
She does not have the right to mess with the power company’s meters.

So...her power meter is inside her house?? and they broke in to install the 'smart' meter?? and they sent no prior notification?? Call me skeptical.

Become an off the gridder and see how much that cost initially.

I hope a talented attorney with some pro bono time to spare will take up her side of the argument...

“So...her power meter is inside her house??”

It doesn’t say that but it’s implied.

“on her bed room wall” could be the exterior wall of her bed room.

From the story: i>On August 6th, at about 10:30am, three men from Nevada Energy, armed with guns, arrived unannounced on her property, removed the analog meter from the socket, took her analog meter as well as the unauthorized smart meter she had removed, and left her living without electricity. One of the men identified himself as an investigator with the company and said that he was investigating her for “criminal tampering.”

If some armed "company investigator" comes to my residence in such a manner, things will not likely go well...

That depends on whether the meter was installed on the outside wall of the bedroom, or the inside...the article is not clear on this. Utility companies don’t have unrestricted access to the inside of your home.

—me too—have been away from Nevada for a few months but followed the comments on “smart meters” in the letters to the editor and became convinced that most of the opponents probably believed they had been affected by chemicals spread by “contrails”,too-—

I brought up EMFs when we got our meter installed and these new smartmeters and some Freeper actually wrote, “You don’t know what you are talking about.”

Apparently, a-hole, YOU don’t know what you are talking about. You owe me an apology for being ignorant and nasty.

If there is an “opt-out” in accordance w Nevada law....then this “raid” was illegal.

Even if this lady was breaking the law....they would have needed to send sworn law enforcement out

There are a number of places around this nation.....had a power company sent armed men on an illegal raid....they would have had their brain matter removed from their head.

This is Business Socialism on Steroids

“Smart meters” are unnecessary when we have cheep|abundant power (like we've had for 80 years.

The fact that the planners are hell bent on putting them everywhere (at vast cost) tells me they have a different future planned for us.

How about this? Put copper flashing shields around the unit leaving just viewing ports for the meter reader. That should ensure the EM pulses are not shooting into the house. Use copper shielding and leave their meters alone, so you don’t have to deal with any gestapo.

If only she was a renter. Then she couldn’t have her power cut off by the landlord for nonpayment of rent. Apparently renters have some magic ‘right’ to utilities that the rest of us do not have.
