That seems strange as I started doing the hyper mileage thing occasionally more like coasting in N when approaching a red light, but as least when I do it I am not hindering traffic. I would also never think of doing it when entering an Interstate on-ramp.

Helpless? It seems you had the best help in the universe.

So true. I prayed that our family come out of it safe and we did. Totally amazed we were in a small safe island surround by chaos. Gave me chills looking in the rear mirror, seeing our toddler in the car seat while also seeing cars braking to avoid us while they got hit.

Driver’s are so bad.

Wow, didn't realize it's that bad now in Florida. Last time I drove there was maybe ten years ago, and the drivers seemed really good. I also liked how courteous the people were in Florida. Has that changed also?

I see at least 2 cases of road rage every day on the road. Sometimes it is the tailgaters and other times it is the lane changers. Other times it is myself I see in the mirror after a stupid driver makes a boneheaded maneuver causing anger.

I'm glad you took that in the spirit that I intended.

As an agnostic, it's always an awkward moment for me when I feel compelled to point out the obvious to a believer...

"...80 mph on each other’s bumper flashing their lights to move the other morons off the road. Let’s see. Hmmm. Reaction time from 2 feet off the guy ahead at 80 in rain,...whoops, what’s that guy doing...?????????"

We didn't have this problem in Florida before automobiles came equipped with air conditioning.

2-Second Rule:

Keep 2 seconds’ worth of road between you and the car ahead, and you’ll have enough distance to slow down/stop if something suddenly happens to the car in front of you - works at every speed

... BUT this is for dry roads; in bad weather, add more time (obviously).

Tailgaiting at high speed is for fools with a deathwish

Absolutely right. I try to give even more room because they’re a lot of idiots out there.

No, the faster you go, the more time you need in between.
Three or Four seconds at 60 and 70. That is DRY conditions.

Look up the Smith System of Space Cushion Driving.

No, I'm serious. Our stay in Florida was quite pleasant. People were overly friendly and courteous. Lots of good manners on display. We're from the SF Bay Area in California, and people here are always in a rush and often unpleasant to deal with. SF is similar to New York City, people always rushing around and no time to be friendly. I liked Florida.

What part of Florida. Southeast Florida is probably the worst, because it was settled by New Yorkers, and is very Democrat.

Central Florida. We stayed in Orlando, and drove around from that city. Went up and down the east coast a bit after checking out Cape Canaveral.
