WHAT is Romney doing with his money? Where are the ads??
October 6th 2012 | County Agent Hank Kimball

OK, I don't watch a lot of regular network programming. Here's what I watch:

Major Legue Baseball
College and NFL Football
FoxNews
Occasional reruns of Frasier, which appear on the Hallmark Channel I believe.

My wife, however, watches various things on Bravo like those insipid Real Housewife shows, Top Chef, etc. (Yes, I know...) and Lifetime Channel.

Neither of us have seen a SINGLE Romney ad in weeks. Not one. I have seen dozens of Obama ads, and they appear to be generating new ones all the time. The most recent, today, was a rebuttal to the debate featuring Andrea Mitchell, and I saw that at least 3 times today alone.

Are the Romney people doing ANY advertising on national cable channels? I'm not kidding when I say I've seen not one, and neither has my wife.

Are they saving their money for a big election-nigh party? Spending it on consultants?

I must admit I'm at a loss.

Hank

Zero doesn't care how much and where he spends the money it is not his money it is illegal contributions and slush fund money he just wants to have his ugly mug and name seared into the brain of every human. I can't even look at him he is evil.

Gas price rise in CA is caused by refinery and pipeline problems, has nothing to do with drilling policy or activity or lack of same.

Kahuna is right, you guys probably won’t see one ad this entire campaign. I’m in New Jersey and I haven’t seen one since the Obama super bowl commercial.

I’ve seen A LOT of Linda McMahon ads though.

I’ve seen ONE ad for Menendez, I don’t know why Kyrillos isn’t running any, although he might be on some local, cheaper channels.

If I lived in the part of Jersey that gets the Philly market I guess I’d be seeing some, but we are still NYC metro here.

“Same commercials being run nationwide.”

No, I don’t think that is accurate. I think the ads are sold on a more local basis, certainly political ads, but also car ads, etc. Think of how you see an ad saying ‘see your local toyota dealer” or something like that. Those ads don’t run across the entire country. Maybe an ad for coca-cola does, but I’m not even sure about that.

I remember being a kid and when my dad would watch college football we’d see ads for Dr. Pepper, which you couldn’t get in NY at that time. I remember when they first sold it up here, it was very exciting, to me anyway!

Hank, you’re in Texas. There is no point in either Romney or Obama buying ads in Texas. Romney going to win the state...and that’s that.

You got that right somehow they are funneling stimulus dollar booty that went to their croneys back into their campaign. Part of that $6 trillion deficit that your grandchildren will someday be struggling to pay off is going for ads to vilainize a decent man.

Thanks! Let me ask you something....the knuckleheads in CA- are they gonna stop and analyze the cause of the price increase? Or do you think they’re gonna be PO’d at whoever’s in charge?

I live in Florida and am happy to say that I’ve seen numerous Romney commercials on the cable channels. I’d say they’ve been about two times the number of Obama ads in my area. I’ve also seen tons of both Connie Mack and Bill Nelson commercials.

I’m really glad that Romney’s apparently only using his ads in a targeted, strategic manner. As far as bang for your buck, local ads on a wide variety of stations are the best choice, since we have the electoral college. Why would his ads need to be seen in Texas, or California, or New York? That might just mean he would have less money for targeted ads in Florida, Ohio, and Virginia. Remember 2000—even just swaying a small number of extra voters in the key swing states may be much more important than accruing a larger popular vote nationwide.

Romney is spending his money in states that are at risk of voting Democrat but have a large enough independent and conservative constituents to vote Republican. Here in Massachusetts I hear no adds. I live in the state where 47 percent are lost to Obama. But I hear several times a day adds run in New Hampshire which should go to him if he pays attention to them. I expect he is not spending too much in states that are certain to go to him.

His bigger problem is exposure. The left wing TV and newspaper propagandists don't give him any time. He hasn't learned the art of speaking to the people through the propagandists as Reagan did.

OK. I get that. But let me ask you something.

Do the people in Florida never leave the state? Do they not travel for business, or to visit relatives or go on vacation? When they do travel, do they scrupulously avoid any exposure to mass media?

Do they have relatives, friends or business aquaintances who may have some infuence upon them who live in other states?

I wonder if this targeting business may not be too clever by half. I am in Texas and I’ve seen a zillion Obama ads. Now Filth ain’t winning Texas, I have no doubt about that. And it’s possible that they’re just THAT stupid and spending money here for no good reason. Maybe. But I wonder.

Hank

You don’t live in a state they are fighting over.

For instance, I live in California and there are no ads being spent here.

We don’t matter, as the state will resoundingly go for Obama.

Well I hope Romney can use his business smarts strategically
and beat Obama at his dirty games. The democrats especially Obamas team are pretty stupid and a bit cocky.
One thing that Bush did was not really fight too much against all the negative lies. I hope Romney will get tough
when he needs to if he is soft they will try to roll him like they did Bush.

Obama has been running ads nationally on cable networks ... I agree it is frustrating to see so many Obama ads without any Romney ads in response.

No, not most of them - some of them. You can also tell the difference if you observe very closely. Obama is in fact airing heavily nationally on cable networks.

But he is indeed running ads nationally - heavily - and has been for quite some time - and not just on cable. Obama ran ads nationally on NBC during the Olympics, as did the RNC.

It’s good that Romney is apparently spending the money in the local markets on the cable systems based on other people reporting in...still frustrating to not see any responses to the blanketing of Obama ads being run nationally for those of us in the non battleground states. A possible reason would be to affect the overall national poll numbers to encourage your own base and demoralize the other side - not necessarily a waste of money.

I live in California and have not seen even one add for either candidate on tv. I will vote for Romney and encourage others to (mostly people in other states), but he is not carrying this state, and would be foolish to waste money here.

Another reason would be satellite services - which I don’t think have “targeted” ad spots - another reason to advertise nationally on cable networks.
