Some in G.O.P. Choose to Return to Akin’s Corner
The New York Times ^ | 10/6/12 | John Elgion

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — For establishment Republicans, it is decision time in the Missouri Senate race.

Should they return to Representative Todd Akin’s corner?

Many quickly withdrew their support for Mr. Akin weeks ago after his controversial comments about abortion and belief that victims of “legitimate rape” have a biological mechanism to fight off pregnancy, hoping to force him aside so another Republican candidate could battle the Democratic incumbent, Senator Claire McCaskill.

But Mr. Akin called their bluff. He stayed in the race, reckoning that election math would oblige them to stick with him.

Now, with Mr. Akin’s name legally bound to the ballot, the election approaching and new polling data presenting a clearer idea of his chances, Republicans are deliberating whether to renege on their reneging.

But, since you’ve been here since 1998, you can still call me NOOB...

Actually I was here before then but mostly as a lurker and not as a poster at first. Those that were here back then remember the database crash and we were added back in from the first post they could find with our name on it if I recall correctly. I signed up about 5 or 6 months after FreeRepublic came online. I have watched FR evolve into what it has become today and like Wardaddy and others I too miss the early days of FR.

The first debate showed America the real Romney and also the real Obama, without scripts. You can see how upset the left and MSM were about this. I doubt they let it happen again.

You can bet they will be on the same page next time.

Every Republican the MSM accuses of a gaffe should drop out.

Yep, great strategy

I can’t believe the GOP-e is STILL agonizing over this with one f-ing month to go!

It is sickening that Liberal PhonyCons still cannot get over Akin. Akin is a solid conservative who is leading the polls because of the strength of his own candidacy and solid conservative positions...not because of Romney or Liberal RINOs

Maybe those who still whine and complain about Akin not dropping out....are not really conservative to begin with. They whine over a “comment” like Liberal Democrats do

While I see your point, the only alternative is a guy who thinks it should be legal and encouraged up to and perhaps shortly after, birth.

So....I take that back. I guess I DON’T see your point.

You want me to vote for Mitt and thus approve of 60,000,000 abortions? No.

You shouldn’t be willing to do it either.

donna,

Your purist mentality is not going to help another baby breathe a breath of life by keeping 0bama in office.

You are just wrong, in this circumstance. Your non-vote is a vote for Satan/0bama.

I’ve reached the point where I don’t want folks such as yourself to either vote for Romney or be associated with the Republican & conservative efforts to defeat Obama and his socialists. So please continue your jihad against the Republican presidential nominee (since you apparently have no comprehension that it’s not in the least bit effectual). I personally don’t want your support to sully the coming Republican/conservative victory. One has to be careful not to lay down with dogs at the risk of getting fleas.

...as time has progressed we get less and less social conservatives

is it generational lag I wonder...

I would call it the effects of big brother indoctrination -both education system and mass media...

I agree. The GOP can’t embrace this guy now.

This guy could care less about their phony backstabbing warm embraces. But if they want the seat they best send some of that cold hard cash they are hoarding.

This is your fault. You compromised our values in order to win.

That is never a good plan.

Akin did not come, in any way, near saying “that women who get pregnant while being raped must have been asking for it”. Where in L did you get that idea? From McKaskle?

Romney’s winning will not be a conservative victory. His winning will be at best a lower/slower tempo war waged by the left on personal freedom. Maybe just maybe we can, with a Romney win, get handcuffs on that monster called socialism and chop of it’s head.
Now do not leap to erroneous conclusions. While I am unable to gin up any at all enthusiasm for the Fabian socialist Romney I will be voting for him in preference over the village idiot Obama.
If Donna can not bring herself to vote for Romney then good for her. For me it was a razor edged decision and Romney gets the vote.
With this election it is the ones voting for Romney who risk getting fleas.

Remember the good old days when there was a trending hot topic, and every post on the home page would be the same? I liked that much better, because a dominant event could crowd everything else out.
