Despite disapproval of Romney's faith, many evangelicals say that won't affect their vote

Chattanooga-area evangelical church pastors may believe the Mormon faith is a cult and may not consider Gov. Mitt Romney a Christian, but they said that won't stop them from considering a vote for him in next month's presidential election.

More than eight in 10 voters in a Pew Forum poll this summer said they were comfortable with the Republican nominee's faith or it didn't matter to them. Nineteen percent said they were uncomfortable with his faith.

"We are electing a president, not a pastor," said Tim Shoap, co-pastor of Signal Mountain Bible Church. "I want the best and most effective leader we can get, [one] who will represent the interests of the people and the country in keeping with the original intent of the Constitution. For me, that makes the Mormon issue largely irrelevant."

While members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints consider themselves Christians, several local evangelical pastors do not.

"Mormonism is a cult," said Jeremy Roberts, pastor of Highland Park Baptist Church. "Mormons are polytheistic universalists who deny that Jesus is the eternal son of God."

However, he said he would base his vote on "policy, leadership skills and who I perceive will most likely lead the country in the direction I believe is best."

I always see that word tossed around, but I rarely hear people identify themselves as such.

Perhaps you don't read contemporary Christian or attend a church or choose to be in a place where Evangelicals gather? I seldom hear alcoholics refer to themselves as alcoholics unless they are in a place where alcoholics gather.

And I am voting for a president of the nation NOT my pastor. O is a clear and present danger to our nation. He MUST be defeated. We need to get as many conservatives elected to the house and senate as we can each and every time there is an election. WE need to hole their feet to the fire.

As it stands O is dictating by fiat. If reelected thing Hugo Chavez

I do. In fact, I hang around with Christians who actually go out to street preach. Never heard them refer to themselves as Evangelicals, even as they were evangelizing. I only hear it on TV in reference to politics. Saying ‘Evangelical Christian” should be kind of redundant when you think about it.

Obama believes that even a child born alive should be left to die if the mother intended an abortion. This is the position he championed while senator.

It doesn’t get any worse than this.

No social conservatives do not lose if romney is president. What happens is that we then must hold his feet to the fire. At every election possible we MUST work as hard as possible to get other conservatives elected. It is up to US....

“I seriously doubt you know what a Christian is. You certainly haven’t shown any signs of being one.”

Yeah, because we all know real Christians believe in Republican politics moreso than their God.

“Mormon or Muslim, will take a Mormon everytime”

I’ve always found the Mormons to be too passive aggressive and incredibly deceptive. The Muslims I have spoken with, at least over the internet, have threatened to behead me during the End Times. I don’t know about you, but I can respect that honesty.

Anyone who doesn't vote for the most likely candidate to remove Obama is simply and severely retarded, and a traitor to the USA.

It's just that simple.

The choice of VP has always been viewed as a means of securing more electoral votes, a way to shore up perceived weaknesses.

One look at Romney’s choice tells anyone willing to see, that the concern does not lie with southern Protestants.

1994 Campaign vs. Ted Kennedy for U.S. Senate: Romney pledged he “will provide more effective leadership” than Kennedy on homosexual rights; endorsed by Log Cabin Republicans.

2001 Called first citizens’ petition to define marriage “too extreme” and “bigoted” because it banned civil unions.

2002 Campaign for Governor: Romney makes promises to GLBT community, according to leading Boston homosexual newspaper; endorsed by homosexual activist Log Cabin Republicans.

Nov. 18, 2003 Romney responds to SJC ruling with four-sentence statement implicitly recognizing SJC’s authority, says only remedy will be a constitutional amendment: “I disagree with the Supreme Judicial Court. Marriage is an institution between a man and a woman. I will support an amendment to the Massachusetts Constitution to make that expressly clear. Of course, we must provide basic civil rights and appropriate benefits to nontraditional couples.”

Jan. 2004 Romney silent on proposal to remove four SJC justices through Bill of Address (put forward by Article 8 Alliance / MassResistance).

Feb. 2004 Massachusetts. Suggests other states strengthen marriage statutes and pass constitutional amendments. Says don’t “attack … gays, singles or non-traditional couples.”

Feb. 2004 Justices of the Peace are told by their professional association they will be able to claim “conscientious objector” status and refuse to perform same-sex marriages — though this was never agreed to by Romney administration.

Feb.-May 2004 Pro-family leaders and columnists urge Romney to defy court, and issue Executive Order to block same-sex marriage; no public comment from Romney.

March 12, 2004 As Legislature postures on constitutional amendments, Romney continues to say amendment to Mass. Constitution is solution.

March 26, 2004 Word leaks out that Romney’s Dept. of Public Health (DPH) and attorneys are planning training sessions for Town Clerks and preparing same-sex marriage licenses.

March 29, 2004 Romney tells Republicans in Mass. legislature to vote for Travaglini-Lees “compromise amendment” which would ban same-sex marriage but establish civil unions (and would not go to voters before Nov. 2006). Republican legislators had earlier opposed this amendment because of the civil unions clause, and it passed only due to their changed votes.

March 29-31, 2004 Romney seeks stay of SJC ruling until constitutional amendment issue is settled, but Atty. General Reilly refuses to take Governor’s case before SJC.

March 30, 2004 Romney says he’ll “abide by the law of the land as it exists on May 17” and says he would not order town clerks to defy court edict. Romney says he’d not explored the Constitution section giving him power over “causes of marriage” and whether it gives him any legal power to stop same-sex marriage (according to spokesman).

April 12, 2004 Romney spokesman says training sessions for town clerks will begin “with plenty of room to spare before May 17.” Ron Crews of Mass. Coalition for Marriage states hope for an Executive Order to halt the marriages.

April 15, 2004 Romney’s DPH Registrar of Vital Records informs town clerks by letter of training sessions before SJC ruling becomes effective.

April 16, 2004 Romney announces his administration is scheduling training sessions for May 5-12 with licenses changed from “husband/wife” to “Party A/Party B”.

April 17, 2004 Mass. Dept. of Revenue (under Romney) declares SJC ruling the new “law”.

April 22, 2004 Romney does not comment on Rep. Goguen’s filing of Bill of Address for Article 8 Alliance/MassResistance to remove the 4 SJC judges, or Article 8’s revelation of Chief Justice Marshall’s violations of the Code of Judicial Conduct. (Marshall had appeared as keynote speaker at homosexual advocacy group dinner in 1999 advocated extension of “rights” for homosexuals, and failed to recuse herself from ruling on same-sex marriage though she had publicly expressed her bias.)

April 26, 2004 Romney’s chief Legal Counsel, Daniel Winslow, issues directive to Justices of the Peace to resign (or be fired, fined, or sued) if they are unwilling to perform same-sex marriages (exact date not given on document).

May 5-12, 2004 Town clerk training sessions held. [GLAD – Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders, they were responsible for content.

May 15, 2004 Romney issues proclamation: May 15 is “Gay/Straight Youth Pride Day”. Romney’s “Governor’s Commission on Gay and Lesbian Youth” events include parade, GLBT activism (with prominent transsexual radical activists), and a GLBT prom – two days before same-sex marriages are to begin.

May 17, 2004 Same-sex marriages begin across Massachusetts. Romney issues brief statement: “All along, I have said an issue as fundamental to society as the definition of marriage should be decided by the people. Until then, I intend to follow the law and expect others to do the same.”

May 18, 2004 Romney begins enforcement of section of marriage statute banning out-of-state couples marrying in Mass. if that marriage would be illegal in their home state, while other intact sections of the marriage statute are ignored.

Dec. 2004 Romney has no comment on bills filed by Article 8 Alliance / MassResistance for 2005-6 session: to remove four SJC judges; strengthen definition of marriage in statute; and declare same-sex marriages since May 17, 2004 null/void and without statutory basis.

Feb. 21, 2005 Romney makes speech before South Carolina Republicans, then is accused of “flip-flopping” on civil unions by homosexual lobby. Romney also negatively refers to demands by the homosexual activists that birth certificates be changed to read “Parent A/Parent B” (instead of “father/mother”), arguing he had no authority to make such a change. Although he did change marriage licenses.

June 16, 2005 Romney joins VoteOnMarriage (VOM) amendment effort, which would recognize same-sex marriages prior to amendment taking effect, and not ban civil unions. Romney says he’s opposed to removing the four SJC judges.
Calls for a “high degree of respect and tolerance for people whose lifestyle and choices and orientation is as they may choose.”

Jan. 2, 2006 Boston Globe reports Romney issued special Governor’s ceremonial marriage licenses to 189 same-sex couples in 2005 (including to homosexual activist state senator).

March 10-14, 2006 Romney says laws require Catholic Charities not to discriminate against same-sex parents in its adoption placements. He says same-sex couples have “a legitimate interest” in adopting children.

Sept. 30, 2006 Romney says he has to “follow the law,” and accept Mass. Superior Court ruling stating Rhode Island lesbian couple can marry in Massachusetts.

1994 till present Romney supports homosexuals in the Boy Scouts.

Dec 11, 2011 Romney announced homosexuals should be permitted to serve openly in the military.

“And I am voting for a president of the nation NOT my pastor. O is a clear and present danger to our nation. He MUST be defeated.”

It’s this fear mongering that is really going to bite you in the butt if Obama wins. I’ve got bad news for you. Romney is as big a liar and degenerate as Barack Obama. And, while that ordinarily wouldn’t be a problem, he doesn’t have a real economic plan for the deficit. His plan is based on the premise that, magically, we will have 4 to 5 percent growth in the economy, even though all growth in the GDP over the past 30 years has been in SPENDING. Even Ryan’s plan promises to “balance the budget” in 30 years based on the assumption of 5 percent growth and 2 point something percent unemployment, something we’ve never seen in the history of the country. By the way, his second budget plan was a gimmick, as all he did was move the money from medicare into something else. IOW, the Republicans are betting on “growing” us out of debt, without making the painful cuts that are needed to keep us from being sucked into the black hole that the Europeeons are currently falling into as well.

We have no leadership, we have only people with nice smiles who, because of ambition, are willing to lie and scheme and destroy JUST so they can have a meaningless title and power that they will not even use properly.

But you say, “We HAVE to stop O!” But, O has already won, because his stated goal was to turn us into Europe, remember? And what do we have in Europe? We have far left and we have the left, and even the “far right” are actually just far leftists who happen to disagree on the finer points of socialism.

With Mitt Romney and the GOPe cementing their power in the party, guess what we are now? Yes, that’s right. Welcome to Europe. We’re living in it.

What will happen next is simple. We are going to play these political games, and either this year (if Republicans are lucky) or next year (if they’re not) the economy is going to collapse, and we’ll probably even witness a world war triggered in the middle east or by China, since they’re collapsing too, but less publicly than us.

I recommend stocking up on food and ammo.

“Mormonism teaches that baptism by water is a necessary ordinance for people to return to God their Heavenly Father. Mormons assert that the ordinance must be performed in the proper way and with the authority of Christ’s priesthood.”

Many people have died without receiving a valid baptism, and they cannot undergo this precious ritual as mere spirits. “Because all on the earth do not have the opportunity to accept the gospel during mortality, the Lord has authorized baptisms performed by proxy for the dead. Therefore, those who accept the gospel in the spirit world may qualify for entrance into God’s kingdom”.
One thing that should be made perfectly clear about Mormon baptisms for the dead is that each deceased soul has the personal choice to accept or reject it. There is nothing in Mormonism that states that the person who is being baptized by proxy must accept this ordinance; he or she is simply given the opportunity to choose.

“Cult-Schmult I could care less. Every Mormon I ever met was clean cut and pleasant. I’ll take Mormons over Marxists any day.”

It’s “I couldn’t care less.” I could care less means you care to a certain extent and could care an unspecified amount of “less” than that.

I’ve never met a Temple Worthy Mormon who was not incredibly deceptive about what his religion teaches. Only occasionally have they ever embraced the whole “we will become gods,” and Christianity is the whore of babylon. And that they did only when given direct evidence that that is what their church teaches.

Mormonism is a deceptive and materialistic religion that measures personal righteousness with appearance, wealth and power. Every Mormon I have ever debated with has told me that, as a Christian, I am inferior in that I don’t know my own religion and that Mormons have superior scholarship. Meanwhile, there exists absolute evidence that Mormonism is a fraud, for example the Book of Abraham, which Smith translated from papyri he purchased from a traveling Mummy show which were examined by real Egyptologists back in the 60s.

It is for reasons like this that I can barely tolerate anyone who apologizes for such an absurd and evil religion in the name of politics.

Now, as applied to politics, I’d probably be more graceful to Glenn Beck had he been running for the Presidency. But Mitt Romney, who has held leadership positions in his “church,” literally behaves just like the LDS always has. They are masters of revisionist history, and Mitt is the same. We even saw that in the debate, where, if you recall, in the primaries he specifically promised cutting taxes for all, including on the eeeevil “one percent.” And in the debate, he specifically said he wasn’t lowering taxes for them at all. Completely different message! And just one example of thousands of changes... just like the LDS, which has edited their own holy book over 3,000 times!

That is why I find him so intolerable. He is corrupt and deceptive, and I cannot support him under any condition.
