Police union now warning people that Detroit is too dangerous to enter
American Thinker ^ | 10/08/2012 | Rick Moran

Welcome to the post-apocalypse cityscape of Detroit - before the apocalypse happens.

CBS Detroit:

The men and women of the Detroit Police Department believe the city is too dangerous to enter, and they want citizens to know it.

Detroit Police Officer Association (DPOA) Attorney Donato Iorio said officers are holding the "Enter At Your Own Risk" rally at 3:30 p.m. Saturday in front of Comerica Park to remind the public that the officers are overworked, understaffed, and at times, fearful for their lives.

"Detroit is America's most violent city, its homicide rate is the highest in the country and yet the Detroit Police Department is grossly understaffed," Iorio told WWJ's Kathryn Larson. "The DPOA believes that there is a war in Detroit, but there should be a war on crime, not a war on its officers."

Iorio says the once 2,000 strong force is shrinking rapidly; since the start of summer, hundreds of officers have left the department.

"These are the men and women who we look to protect us... and police officers can't protect you if they're not there. Officers are leaving simply because they can't afford to stay in Detroit and work 12 hour shifts for what they are getting paid... These police officers are beyond demoralized, these officers are leaving hand over fist because they can no longer afford to stay on the department and protect the public," he said.

And that's why Iorio cautions those who enter the city to be wary.

Where is Robocop when we need him?

While I’m not thrilled with the way Snyder is going about building a second bridge, I do agree that it needs to be built. Canada has had their end prepped for 30 years.

Maroun says he wants to build a second bridge but he wants to build it right into downtown Windsor (from downtown Detroit). Canada wants to build the bridge from Zug Island to the area they have prepped.

Canada is paying for the cost of construction of the bridge and will collect the tolls for 40 years. (Its a great deal for Canada right now) We have to pay to buy the land on our side and build the highway approaches. The unions are screeching that we’ll have to fire all the teacher’s police, and firemen etc.

Just take a good look on google earth at Del Ray Michigan where the American end will be.

I was once directed to a photography site that had tons of pics of Detroit. It took about an hour to go thru them, but I was completely drawn in.

Knock ‘em down and recycle what you can. Those buildings are depressing.

—If everyone flees a toilet like this, who gets stuck with the costs of future benefits for their retirees who lotted it to begin with?—

Those who don’t flee. If all flee, then the state gets it and auctions off the real estate.

This is nothing more than a pro union publicity stunt.

That’s my take too, though the town is a hell-hole.

How many cops are using the cost of living as a excuse to avoid saying, “can’t do our job due to lack of support from city because arresting the criminals may make us look racist.”

I went back a few years ago and the place shocked me... and my family living there in their pretty lake surrounding homes in the suburbs, don’t even see it.

the place is a ghost town

I used to work for compuware. The last time I visited there was a year or so after they built the new corporate office downtown (Hard rock is on the main floor). I describe the whole area as a donut of development with a blighted donut hole called Detroit.

Detroit can always rent itself out to Holly Weird as a Location for the next “Robo Cop” or “Mad Max” shoot set ... the current inhabitants are natural Extras (no costumes or make up required).

Detroit needs to be hung around O’s neck like a millstone.

It is the quintessential failed Liberal Utopia.

50+ years of uninterrupted Liberal rule, and it is now a smoking ruin.

Al Qaeda couldn’t have done more damage to that city than the Liberals did.

In 2006 I was in Memphis and having tires put on a big truck. Next to the tire dealership was a railroad track. Across the tracks was an apartment building. The trash beside the tracks was at least 5 feet deep. People were throwing their trash out the windows. I can’t imagine what it’s like today.

I spent last week in a small town in Tennesee where the common denominator was very small. I’d move there in a heart beat if I could sell my house.
