Lance Armstrong stands unmasked as the worst kind of cheat and liar
http://www.nydailynews.com/ ^ | october 11 2012 | NEW YORK DAILY NEWS

So says the United States Anti-Doping Agency in a remarkably exhaustive report of its investigation into charges that Armstrong climbed to unprecedented stardom atop a bicycle with the aid of banned substances.

The document conclusively nails Armstrong with overwhelming sworn testimony, email correspondence, bank records and analyses of his blood samples.

It all but begs federal law enforcement authorities to refocus their attention on Armstrong after unexplainedly closing a probe — if only to consider indicting him for perjury.

Armstrong’s doping was no hit-and-miss proposition. It started in 1999 and went on for a decade. Under his command, it was highly organized and entailed surreptitious deliveries of prohibited substances, elaborate ruses to avoid blood tests and insistence that teammates participate.

Doping is just as much a part of sports as other “improvement” methods.

There is not a single older, elite athlete, who has not used performance enhancing drugs to compete against younger athletes, except maybe in golf. I don’t know much about golf. Heck, steroid an equalizer, steroids ensure an equal starting point regardless of age. How the heck do you think someone could come back from cancer treatment and return to elite competition against much younger men?

The point is that no one really cares.

Personally unfamiliar with this whole situation and don’t much care, but I’d be interested to know if this is a legitimate beef or a case of jealous persecution of a decent and honest athlete.

Opinions, anyone?

So “worst kind” now means “professional bike racer”? I’ve never doubted he was doping because that’s the career he chose. But I don’t see him as that different from the rest of the industry.

The bicycling magazines have come out over the years and said something was fishy so what does that tell you?? As others have posted all the other bicylist have done it as well... or if not they were the ones at the end of the pack.

That being said Lance was/is a phenomanal athlete and is w/o a doubt the very best cyclist in our time.

I recently read (confirmed PED cheater) Tyler Hamilton’s book, The Secret Race. It is an exhaustive description of his own and Armstrong’s (a teammate) elaborate cheating strategies. There was in fact a cheating arms race, and Armstrong was the market leader, always innovating.

That’s why the argument that “they all did it, so it was a level playing field” is incorrect. Armstrong did it earlier and better, and when someone like Hamilton threatened to overtake him, he turned his former friend in to the authorities.

Armstrong comes across not as a decent and honest athlete, but as a narcissistic sociopath, whose definition of “normal” was that it was when he won.

For some reason, your article fails the mention the dates that Armstrong had a test where he was found to have performance enhancing drugs in his urine or blood.

Until then, he is innocent, unless you favor a world where ten known drug users can come forward and simply claim they saw you using drugs and that would be all it would take to find you guilty.

I have no opinion on Armstrong one way or the other.

I just wonder how he was able to pass bunches of doping tests over the years.

I smell something rotten in Denmark. It seems to me that there is no physical evidence that he doped...no failed tests. Testimony? I can lie under oath just as well as the police can. Emails? I can manufacture hundreds of them a day...from or to anyone on the planet. It’s not rocket science.

OK Armstrong-zombies, defend the indefensible .

I'm no 'Armstrong-zombie'. Other than the State of Texas, I have nothing in common with the man.

You post, however is both presumptive and arrogant.

They spent TEN YEARS and untold thousands (millions) of taxpayer dollars to drag a man to court on a case that they themselves had already closed.

So the question becomes why do YOU think it's a good idea to piss off so much money on a subject most people don't care jack about?

Go ahead....defend the indefensible.

Cycling is the most drug enhanced sport in the world, even worse than bodybuilding, and that is saying a lot. All the top guys are on something. So they ALL cheat at the top, and that I know from inside sources.

So Lance is a cheat among cheaters. He was still the best of them. You ever wonder why no active cyclist ever complains about the other guy cheating?

So for me, it doesn't make him less than the best, to me, the only thing he has done is to lie to the public about it. Yes, that is bad, and the entire sport is a farce in that case. Has been for a long time.

OK Armstrong-zombies, defend the indefensible.

He passed every drug test they gave him.

Now you defend the 10 year persecution of Armstrong with no hard physical evidence.

Of course there was no coercion, threats, or promises of leiniency used to get the testimony of others - right?

Much as DNA testing has improved over the years and thus helps solve crimes from the past so can be said of drug testing. That said Armstrong was one of the best physical specimens during his time at the top. Even if all were doping he still was the winner amongst the users and wannabees. Apparently his lung and heart capacity was much superior to his competitiors.

Hey, here’s a novel idea. Maybe the older athletes don’t need to stay competitive forever. Maybe they could retire gracefully and pass the torch to the younger guys, so those guys would have the same opportunity to succeed and make a name for themselves that the old guys did.

Or they could just keep cheating, and you could have fun rooting for your favorite geriatric athletes.
