The porn industry, well, it has always existed, it is here and never going away, it even has been around in prehistoric times on cave walls.

The ubiquitous, vile filth that nowdays is two clicks away from any 10 year-old's eyes has "always existed"? Please. Show me a piece of media from any time prior to 1970 that shows thousands of images of men wallowing in each other's filth, or women jamming various objects into themselves that was easily accessible to your average 10 year-old and I might agree with you.

No, this cultural cesspit we find ourselves drowning in is something completely new and we as a society have shown ourselves ill-prepared to cope with it.

Sometimes I do wonder if we as a society are/were truly ready for the internet, it just came out and exploded so fast. I guess like any other delivery media, there is and will always be a demand for many things, including porn, IIRC, it is the number one "industry." Yeah, I'd like to see that change myself, using a great thing for that, well, it does cheapen it a bit. Even so, like anything else, it can be used for good and bad. Noted science fiction author, H. Beam Piper wrote a story in 1947, "A Logic Named Joe," where everyone had a computer in their home hooked up to something like the internet where people looked up nasty things like how to cheat on their wives, kill people and so on. It's a lot like the gun debate really, but we do have enough laws to punish the bad behaviours such as murder and so on.

I think when it comes to uber-hardcore stuff, I believe there is really not much of a wide demand for it, it is most likely to a very small niche. I don't like it at all and find it sick, but I'm confident that 90% plus people would find it abhorrent.

Make a long story short, sex is a natural thing and we need to by more honest and open in teaching the next generation about it, what is wrong and right to what morals each of us have and most importantly to my responsible decisions and be accountable for them. We should not be libertine about it but in some ways, we are too uptight here.

We can't run to the government for everything, we have to do this one ourselves and yes, there are people who do have different standards although we do not need to pander to those that are way out there.
