Poll Shows Romney Leading Obama among Jews
Arutz Sheva ^ | 11/10/12 | Gil Ronen

A tracking poll published Thursday by TIPP for Investors' Business Daily shows the hard-to-believe statistic of 44% support for Mitt Romney among likely Jewish voters, versus 40% for Obama, with 16% undecided.

The statistic is qualified with the comment that it is based on a small sample and should therefore be viewed with caution.

The poll was conducted among 812 likely voters, with an 8% advantage for registered Democrats over Republicans.

If the numbers are in any way close to representing reality, they reflect an unprecedented shift in Jewish voting preferences. Jews have voted overwhelmingly for Democratic presidential candidates for decades. Obama enjoyed 78% of the Jewish vote in the 2008 election.

Jewish support for Obama has been slipping recently. In September, the TIPP poll gave him 59% versus 35% for Romney. That in itself was seen as quite an accomplishment for Romney. It was not far from the 40 percent number in support of Dwight Eisenhower recorded by Jews in 1956, which was the highest backing by Jews for a Republican in nearly a century.

My cousin is in California. A stupid Jew for Obama, as are many. Intelligent and compassionate in many matters, but absolutely ignorant of facts and committed to the “O.” Actually, it’s both brother and sister cousins who are that way.

Of greater interest......... what is a Jew.

Are there fundamentalist, “evangelical” Jews?

Is the 35% that group?

I don’t believe it either.

I live in a town with a large Jewish population (1/3),and I guarantee Obama will win there.

Orthodox Jews vote Republican(The ones that you see on the Chabad telethons) but the American born Jews, those are the ones whose religion is liberalism

I suspect it’s even worse. They probably polled ZERO Orthodox Jews..they won’t respond to pollsters..but will likely vote for Mitt.

I’ve personally met some American born, and they’re conservatives but I realize they’re the exceptions and you’re right, they’re religious.

“Are there fundamentalist, “evangelical” Jews?”

There would not be “evangelical” Jewish people, as they would then be Nazarines, no?

But there are “fundamentalists” Jewish people, aka “Orthodox” and, increasingly the “Conservative” movement.

Reform are Episcopalians without ham and cheese.

We have family in Israel so since we have a stronger connection to Israel, the majority of my family vote Republican..a few vote Dem but according to my uncle two of his sons will be voting for Romney in November..why, not because of Israel, but because they make over 250,000 a year and don’t want to be taxed to high heaven by Obama..that is what made them jump ship..one is a lawyer and the other one works for google so they don’t want to “Spread their wealth around”

If, as a headline last week proclaimed, ‘’Debbie Wasserman Schultz Is Under 45% With 16% Undecided’’ in her heavily Jewish district, why wouldn’t other American Jews not also be expected to be turning away from the Democrats this year in record numbers?

And since Debbie herself is Jewish, not to mention the chairwoman of the DNC, you’d think she’d be leading by high double digits.

In any case, this poll is good news. Mazel tov.

This is a standard small sample outlier.

We have no idea how many of the 812 respondents were jews, only the percent by religion with preferences.

My guess would be that there were between 20 and 40 in the whole sample. Can’t say much about it.

Anecdotally, I know some American-born chabad that will vote for Romney because they are disappointed with the empty chair.

The poll states that it was a “small sample, interpret with caution”.
