The world would’ve forgiven Paul Ryan if he had thrown his glass of water over Joe Biden last night. Throughout the vice presidential debate, Biden was aggressive to the point of rude. His strategy was obviously to make up for Obama’s weakness the previous week by being forceful and unrelenting. While this made for an entertaining opening, the performance quickly became repetitive and annoying. Picking a winner depends entirely on personal taste. Some viewers will decide that Biden was tough and Ryan was weak. Others will conclude that Ryan was reasonable and Biden was out of control. Personally, I thought the Vice President’s behaviour resembled the evening life cycle of an amiable drunk. He started out happy and smiling, turned argumentative in the middle, and closed with a rambling statement that suggested it was time for a power nap on a park bench. Ten minutes longer and he might have got his second wind, slung an arm around Ryan’s neck and started a chorus of, “Show Me The Way To Go Home…”

After 3 ½ years of Biden’s playing the fool, it is hard to remember he was once considered a serious man, a serious politician. But...Barack wasn’t looking for a serious politician — he wanted a court jester — and that’s what he got.
Now, after playing the fool for so long he has become the fool. Yet, in the debate he wanted to again be a serious man — or at least play one on TV. He clearly showed why Clint Eastwood called him the “intellect” of the Democrat Party.

There’s a reason “Irish Eyes” is a cliché. Biden has evil little slits. Ryan was born with the real thing.
