Ghost of Al Gore will haunt smirking, interrupting Joe Biden as he fibs about Libya
Daily Mail ^ | 10/12/2012 | Toby Harnden

Joe Biden came out swinging at Paul Ryan, flailing wildly and landing a few punches on his own jaw as well as his opponent's. He showed the kind of spirit and populist anger that President Barack Obama was so conspicuously lacking and has cheered up many demoralised Democrats.

But Biden's performance here in Danville, Kentucky was both comical and self-defeating. Just as Al Gore sighed and rolled his eyes in 2000, so Biden smirked and guffawed. He gesticulated wildly and jabbed his finger. He interrupted Ryan and the moderator Martha Raddatz. Many women and swing voters will have hated it.

Perhaps the even bigger problem the Obama campaign will have in the coming days is that Biden, again just like Gore in 2000, repeatedly exaggerated and mischaracterised for effect. And worse than Gore - who was caught in a series of small lies in 2000 - Biden was demonstrably untruthful in some big respects.

Most seriously, Biden blamed the US intelligence community for the debacle and stated that no one had requested additional security.

When asked by Raddatz why the White House had blamed the death of Ambassador Chris Stevens on protests about a movie, he responded: 'Because that was exactly what we were told by the intelligence community.'

There is ample evidence that this was not the case. From tomorrow, expect a number of senior intelligence figures to come out and say that. The US intelligence community is not about to take the fall for what happened in Benghazi just so Obama can be re-elected.

Even more startling was Biden's insistence: 'Well, we weren’t told they wanted more security there. We did not know they wanted more security again.'

That is directly contradicted by testimony from two State Department officials this week. Eric Nordstrom, expressed frustration

I was reminded more of Howard Dean with his wild and loud antics.

Joe Biden: "Well, we weren’t told they wanted more security there. We did not know they wanted more security again."

Eric Nordstrom: "I felt like the Taliban was inside the building."

From the comments below the article, Jasmine made an excellent point [emphasis added]:
Obama-ites claim that Obama lost the debate last week because he was "just being polite". Not true - Obama had no need to be polite, as he was allowed time to answer and was never rudely interrupted by Romney or the moderator. Obama just failed to carry his half of the debate.
And then:
If you want a true example of someone being polite, it was Paul Ryan in last night's debate. For all those folks who might say that Ryan did not answer the questions, you might notice that every time he tried to answer, Biden would rudely interrupt by snickering, guffawing, muttering, etc. Biden was disrespectful, being both rude and condescending at the same time, often grinning at inappropriate moments. Joe was a clown, a buffoon, a boor - churlish and unmannerly . Ryan never lost his cool, even when the moderator herself interrupted him, or when she cut him off mid-sentence or changed the subject before he could respond to Biden.
Well played, Jasmine!

Just as Al Gore sighed and rolled his eyes in 2000, so Biden smirked and guffawed.

This was my own impression, exactly.

I thought that Rep. Ryan had the better of the debate--by far, in fact. Vice-President Biden appeared dismissive, cavalier, and downright rude, in my opinion.

Still, I am an unapologetic Republican; so my own analysis may be (reasonably enough) called into question.

A snap poll taken by CNN, just following the debate, gave a slight edge to Ryan, 48 percent to 44 percent. On the other hand, a CBS poll showed a rather large margin in favor of Biden, among uncommited voters, 50 percent to 31 percent.

Of course, the two combatants' goals were appreciably different: Biden apparently sought to energize the Democratic base, following a lackluster performance last week by President Obama in the first presidential debate; and in this, he probably succeeded.

Ryan, by contrast, was making an appeal to independent voters. (The Obama-Biden campaign has apparently concluded that this is a base election; and that there are just too few uncommitted voters to matter much, anyway.) In this regard, Ryan did impress me as very competent and level-headed; but the CBS poll, mentioned above, may call into question whether he was successful in his mission.

In the end, vice-presidential debates seldom matter much, unless one participant makes a jaw-dropping gaffe that the media choose to replay, over and over, in order to create a narrative. And neither candidate did this. (Well, not verbally, anyway. But I did think that Biden's continual smirking was a rather serious error in judgment; in fact, it was reminiscent of Al Gore's disrespectful facial expressions in 2000, during a presidential debate with George W. Bush.)

The most memorable line, in recent times, from a vice-presidential debate, was surely the late Lloyd Benston's zinger in 1988, directed at Dan Quayle: "Senator, I served with Jack Kennedy. I knew Jack Kennedy. Jack Kennedy was a friend of mine. Senator, you are no Jack Kennedy." Yet the Dukakis-Bentsen ticket lost. And lost rather handily...

Yeah, well the story after the convention was that she was on some kind of anti-depressant. I was thinking that maybe she shared her prescription with Biden.

I remember Gore standing next to Bush and staring him down. It was weird and unprofessional but, when is the left not weird and unprofessional. They really are a sick bunch.

How about that debate where Gore had all that make-up and hairstyle to look like Reagan, and even tried to copy Reagan's mannerisms. What a maroon.

RE: Jack Kennedy

Joe Biden to Paul Ryan” ‘Oh so, now you’re Jack Kennedy ehh...”

Paul Ryan to Joe Biden: “I think the vice president very well knows that sometimes the words don’t come out of his mouth the right way.”

What a maroon.
Yes, but a rich one. He got on that green train and is riding the hell out of it. His baloney makes him millions. This surely is a topsy-turvy time in history.

Why is Biden laughing? Maybe to have people criticize him and forget about Obama’s poor debate? Or is he mildly autistic? Somebody posted that he does not want to win the election. Biden was bizarre.

Notice Joe was not wearing a wedding ring in those pictures.

Maybe some trouble with the missus that night?

Might explain some of the erratic behavior.

I remember Gore standing next to Bush and staring him down.

I remember Bush's reaction too-- he sort of did a small double take and looked at Gore as if to say "WTF you doin' there, Geek?" Then went on with his answer. I hope Romney gets to do that when Obama over reaches, as he is bound to do.

Vice President Joe Biden’s behavior during the Veep debate proved one thing: Team Obama has given up trying to win over independent voters and is betting it all on their base. Mr. Biden’s laughter, dismissive comments and smirks whenever Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wisconsin) spoke was obviously an effort to placate those who react the same way when someone dares to point out President Obama’s failures and offers alternatives.

The response of the left to Biden’s rude behavior on the nationally televised debate is/was predictable. They loved it and insanely believe the rest of us love their insanity, arrogance, and rude behavior.

With over 70 years of life and at least 60 of those years watching liberals lie and feel superior. Decades ago, I came to the conclusion, that they are all mentally unstable and there is no cure for them.

They all suffer from Illusory Superiority Responses. Often this cognitive bias increases with years of faux education and their illusory social status in their increasing unstable/immature minds.

Illusory Superiority Response is a cognitive bias that causes people to overestimate their positive qualities and abilities and to underestimate their negative qualities, relative to others. This makes them under estimate real winners like Ronald Reagan.

So they label anyone, who dares to challenge their insane/rude Illusory Superiority Responses, as red necked, stupid, knuckle draggers rather than listen to what we have learned over the years, decades and centuries from history.

With the instant reality, we now have with the internet, Fox and social nets, the left wing mediots are losing their ability to lie, cover, and omit their beloved Obama’s/Biden’s mentally unstable responses.

The rabid/mentally unstable hard core liberals love the Illusory Superiority responses of Obama/Biden/Pelosi/Reed and others.

However, the instant and nationwide exposed insanity of their Illusory Superiority responses is killing them with the independent voters.

Very interesting perspective. I just spike with an Omaha supporter last night who started talking to me about the VP debate, said how terrible it was that Ryan kept interrupting poor Mr Biden. You heard me right, he git it exactly backward. Figured out what happened, apparently some lib news outlets are playing clips from near the end of the debate where Ryan actually interrupts Biden, then making it out that Ryan was the rude one. Amazing what information control can do for mind control. I’m planning on giving him a full video of the debate. Don’t know if it will help. The disease is in an advanced stage.
