NBC's Tom Brokaw blasted Joe Biden's debate antics on Friday's Morning Joe. "I mean he just can't contain himself," note Brokaw. "And he's become a caricature on the talk shows."

"I just don't think you should be laughing during a discussion about thermonuclear war with Iran," Brokaw called out Biden, who repeatedly shook his head at opponent Paul Ryan while smiling and laughing.

I do think there were a few times when Ryan could have interjected some fantastic sound-bytes. I would not favor him acting as Biden did, but you can frame your opponent for what he is doing with the proper rejoinders.

Yes, he did stay on message. Of course turning things on your opponent is also staying on message. You can do it in a dry dignified manner too, that makes your opponent look ever so much like a childish chump, while you look even more the adult in the situation.

None of this is meant to state that Ryan didn’t win. Biden blew it big-time. Still, a little nudge once in a while would have been nice.

I think Biden was high too. That seems to be the debate strategy for the dems - get really really stoned, then go to the debate.

Slow Joe was playing to his audience, the under 30 crowd that sits home playing video games instead of working and watching cartoon shows (Family Guy, etc.) in the evening.

Right - he could have also “overcorrected” to confront Biden which would have been a risk of making it look like a school boy arguing with the school master (sort of the way Edwards looked vs. Cheney). In this case he looked like someone level headed with someone going crazy.

It has not been widely publicized but when Biden very briefly alluded to the death of his first wife years ago he could have mentioned the same accident required two cranial operations for him and I think some added surgical work on his neck. If this were a lesser person in some difficult situation the cranial operations would be considered important as to behavior.

I thought the moderator was a big part of the problem, but I haven’t seen much written about it. I don’t think the media should be allowed to moderate debates anymore.

I agree. There was a danger of that, and he did come off level-headed. There’s also a very fine line there too, level headed vs submissive and not self-defending enough.

Lots of free commercials. I like the idea of resurrecting the daisy.

PBS’ Jeff Greenfield: “Biden has always had a smile that at times is really, really inappropriate.”

Biden's smile is "unsettling" and "inappropriate" mainly because it is utterly insincere. It's forced, like a beauty queen's smile.

Remember we were supposed to vote Kerry (the Viet Nam vet) because he had “gravitas”? I guess they don’t really respect gravitas because Bite-Me surely hasn’t an ounce...

It has become apparent that not many of that under
30 crowd watched.

I don't think Ryan or anyone else expected Slow Joe to go ballastic. Being interupted 82 times is going to throw off anyone's debate game plan.

I for one think that the moderator was involved in the fix. Very damn obvious.

Ya know, upon reflection, this was predicted.

At the Republican Convention in Tampa, the great Clint Eastwood said something to the effect, “Yeah, Joe Biden, the intellect of the Democrat Party, kind of a smile with a body behind it...”
