Kindergartener Receives 10-Day Suspension for NERF Gun

There’s nothing more innocuous than a NERF (Non-Expanding Recreational Foam) gun – right?

Well, not if you’re an administrator at Duchesne Elementary School of Ferguson/Florissant School District in Missouri. Apparently, a toy gun that shoots foam-based projectiles presents a clear and present danger to students, faculty and staff.

To clarify, on Monday, school officials meted out a 10-day suspension to a five-year-old who brought his NERF gun to class.

That’s correct. 10 days for a NERF gun.

The principal of the School, Katie Sanders sent a letter home to the parents explaining the reason for the suspension, in it she said, “providing a safe environment that allows children to learn is our first priority. Please take this opportunity to remind your children that no weapons of any kind are allowed on school property and encourage them to report unsafe situations.”

There’re at least two obvious problems with that statement, (a) the notion that a NERF gun jeopardize the safety of children and (b) the insinuation that a NERF gun is a weapon (It’s not a weapon; it’s a harmless toy).

Though, trying to impart this common sense to politically correct drones is like, well (to use an oldie but a goodie), talking to a brick wall.

Needless to say, the mother was dumbfounded by the entire situation.

"I'm having trouble explaining to my son, who was excited to start school, why he is in so much trouble for a toy that he received as a Christmas gift,” Tamoya Smith told Examiner.com in an interview.

In an attempt to contest the punishment, Smith went up the administrative ladder and made an appeal to the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

These public schoool educators must be very proud of themselves ... they "protected" the school from a five-year-old kid with a NERF gun.

I don't see how a parent could allow their child to set foot in one of these insanity factories.

And don't say it was better in the old days. It may have been less evil. But, it was always an evil concept. Our parents didn't know that. We do.

Ten days where the kid can be educated. (It was a miracle that nobody was shot and injured by that gun. /sarc)

Ms. Sanders needs re-education, she’s obviously severely harmed by leftist propaganda. Twenty-four hours of solitary confinement watching continuous showing of “Red Dawn” should suffice.

Obviously, the administration cares more about making a political point than about the child’s education. The parents should take this seriously, and plan to homeschool or private school until their son graduates. It’s only going to get worse in the Democrats’ Indoctrination Facilities as their son gets older.

1. The school is overreacting due to the political environment of fear.

2. Even when I was a child, we were not allowed to take toys to school unless it was for Show and Tell. It wasn’t even a question of whether the school would allow it, but it was our parents who said NO.

3. Did the parents allow him to take the TOY to SCHOOL?

I don’t know where else you would send your kid. I think all of the public schools are the same.

Private military academy maybe or home school.

Well.....this toy...is a toy...not a gun...it does not discharge a round using a propellent, it uses a puff of air. Further examination, classifying a NERF toy as a gun indicates that this is not a toy....wait....it is a toy..
Sad...our great Republic has devolved in soooo...many...ways.

The way to deal with a toy a child brought to school is for the teacher to hold onto it until the end of the day, and then have the child take it home, following a stern lecture about not bringing his toys to school.

Ten days, for the NERF Maverick? I'd have brought the NERF Vulcan, and attempted to get a full month:

<> I know. It's getting to where they are all the same no matter where you go. My kids go to charter right now. The director is a great guy. I believe a conservative. I know weapons are not allowed, but not sure what their policy is/would be over a nerf gun! I know my kids have been able to mention guns and shooting at the school. Hopefully they wouldn't be as stupid, but you never know.

Better send in the TSA. You never know how much damage a Nerf gun can do.

Now instead of aspiring to be a policeman, this child will become a lawyer.

How was the child to know he wasn’t supposed to bring the scary extremely dangerous toy gun to school? Is there a warning label anywhere on it?

Have you noticed that it’s okay if the Left has zero tolerance? All the rest of us have to be tolerant 100% of the time.
