Skip to comments.Romney opens up 7-point lead over Obama, as electoral map begins to shift

Mitt Romney's national lead over President Obama grew even more Thursday, with the latest Gallup survey showing the Republican nominee up 7 points -- as polling in the battlegrounds indicates the electoral map may be shifting in Romney's favor.
In a significant development, the RealClearPolitics electoral map, which offers predictions of which states favor which candidates, for the first time is showing Romney ahead in terms of electoral votes he is likely to win on Nov. 6.
Obama had a big advantage over Romney for months in those projections. But in the past few weeks, states thought to favor Obama like New Hampshire and Pennsylvania were moved into the "toss-up" column. Meanwhile, RCP just moved North Carolina from "toss up" to "leans Romney." The projections -- while subject to change any time of any day -- show Romney with a likely 206 electoral votes and Obama with 201. That leaves another 131 electoral votes up for grabs in the battlegrounds.

The national Gallup survey, which is based on a seven-day rolling average and was updated Thursday, showed Romney leading 52-45 percent. At the start of October, he was tied with Obama at 48 percent each.
And they’re all lying.
Romney is going to win! If you don’t believe me - ask Bob Beckel.
If Gallup is correct, Romney will crush the Liberal Messiah. Following that, Chris Matthews will cry and consider suicide. Also, there will be at least one riot.
I like Romney’s voice . It’s ‘Presidential ‘
Very comforting , solid , reassuring .
He will become known as another Reagan , universally respected , admired and loved .
By all but the brainless nitwit Demo-lemmings that blindly hate anything that not a D ( as in dumber , dumber, dumbest)
if we are lucky Matthews will got thru with it !
I’ll drink to that
If Detroit wins the World Series thhey can save time and have a twofer when they riot.
Looks to me like people are getting cocky and overconfident about these latest poll numbers.
I'm betting at least two - one in Los Angeles, the other in New York. 8^)
I am getting some champagne ready.....and I am not really a drinker.
There’s a difference between arrogance and confidence.
The MSM has exhibited a great deal of the former. Telling the truth on the other hand, is not exaggerated boasting!
I will love watching MSNBC and DU when the Muslim communist Obama loses!
I wonder what the DU dummies are doing now watching this poll? lol
Saw Bob Beckel on Fox a little while ago — he really looked depressed. He said essentially that if these numbers are correct, “it’s over.” He did go on to say he wasn’t quite certain they are correct — while he does respect Gallup, he pointed out the margin of error of 4%, which could bring it down to 48%. But I have to hand it to Beckel, he’s one of the few liberals that is willing to be honest about what this poll (if accurate) really means.
Perhaps - but most of us are working our butts off trying to push Romney over the line! The numbers of R/R campaign workers are LEGION!
Obama could get 47%. As the weeks progress, I won’t be surprised if he ends up with 42%. Once people tell you “its over” - watch your number take a big slide.
And it couldn’t happen to a more deserving guy.
This is not unusual. Early on, presidential polls usually show the incumbent as beating the challenger plus many polls are weighted to favor the Democrat. Now, a few weeks away from the election two things happen: (a) polled respondents begin choosing a candidate and, (b) polls that were skewed to favor Obama have to get real to maintain credibility post-election. That means Romney’s real numbers start showing up - and everyone feigns surprise.
We’re all well aware that anything can happen and things could change between now and November 6th. However, barring some unforeseen cataclysmic event that sways the election, I believe that Romney will handily defeat Obama.
Eh, I just don’t want to see our side getting too comfortable.
Even if it was a sure thing that Romney will trounce Obama, I want to see the Left humiliated, demoralized, and buried by as large a winning margin as possible so that it becomes a mandate against them.
i agree 1000%. i am still deathly worried about nov 6. i could care less that romney is up if these polls are polling in CA NY NJ etc......
it matters if hes up in OH VA FL and VA
Chrissie will be on suicide watch very soon!...
Obama doesn’t need to worry. He is winning Intrade.
They are encouraging, but we are aware that the final poll is election day.
NO MATTER WHAT THE POLLS SAY - we have to work like we are 5 points behind.... otherwise we risk a loss from complacency.
I have lost my bump.
The chances of Obama winning - with 56% are exactly zero.
Then again its not like the odds favor him.
He’ll have to be content with that massive win on Intrade.
Intrade will be shifting soon I bet.
“Looks to me like people are getting cocky and overconfident about these latest poll numbers”
You got that right and there’s three weeks left.
I expect we’ll soon see an onslaught against Romney with allegations of either drug use, sexual harassment, pedophilia, homosexuality, bestiality, alcoholism, mental instability, racism, rape, theft, financial improprieties or all of the above.
If Hussein loses, we must be vigilant of the lame duck period. If he is the muslim plant so many wonder about, there’s no telling what he will attempt or do.
Me too! But, if you live in a 'swing state' find a little time to donate to the campaign in the town where you live!!
No doubt he will be doing his best to leave a lot of land-mines, dirty tricks and nasty surprises.
Yes but we control the House of Representatives and can
filibuster anything in the Senate correct?
Oh, forgot to add a few more possibilities: some historian will tie Romney’s direct ancestors to the Mountain Meadows Massacre, the Donner party, Lizzie Borden or Romney himself to the Jim Jones Guyana compound.
The margin of error on the Gallup poll is 2%.
Thanks for the good laugh.
Mr. and Mrs O, please remove yourself from the WHITE HUT/CRIB so we can RESTORE it to REAL AMERICA LOVING AMERICANS -- The ROMNEYS!! Thank You..
O, I'll help you move... I will GLADLY help you rent a U-HAUL, so you can put FLOTUS fat A-- in the back of it for the trip to KENYA -- er I meant Chicago...
I'm EXCTCITIZEN and I GLADLY APPROVED THIS POSTING!!!
I don’t we are overconfident. We are simply being optimistic. We should be cautious, especially if we do win. Liberals don’t accept defeat quietly. They will sue, riot, and/or call for revolution (remember the calls for secession in 2004).
Umm. More likely it’s the biased reporting of the electoral college map that’s shifting. It’s not news that the numbers add up for Romney. The pukes just can’t lie about it any more as the reckoning approaches.
“The projections — while subject to change any time of any day”
True...but would they say that if Obama was ahead. They are trying so hard to give their base something to hold on to, it gets pathetic.
Well - we're celebrating - BUT, we have A LOT OF WORK TO DO in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin and Iowa.
We have to win at least two of these states, maybe three, depending on Colorado.
I will be happy to buy Chrissy a gun and a bullet so he won’t have to suffer. Does that make me a compassionate Conservative?
Pray for America
Do you not find your post just a bit ironic, Utmost Certainty?
agreed! We must keep an eye on Ohio. Ohio must go for Romney! These nationwide polls mean nothing if Romney doesn’t pick up the buckeye state. Call your relatives and friends in Ohio and Get Romney elected!
And how! Lying Libs just can't be anything but despicable!
No one will admit it, but 2008 was our Affirmative Action vote. We (referring to the country as a whole) admitted we were racist hicks and made up for it by voting in an AA president.
So we did our job. But he let us down (just like every AA vote at the city level), so now it’s time to put an adult back in power.
