WESLACO - Illegal entry into the United States is the only option for many who seek to escape poverty and violence, experts said.
Immigrants put their money, trust and ultimately their lives in the hands of human smugglers. Some of those smugglers are not old enough to hold a driver's license.
One of those smugglers is accused of crashing a van loaded with 17 illegal immigrants near Palmview. Life ended for nine of those immigrants.
"These smugglers are ruthless people," Border Patrol Spokesman Henry Mendiola said.
Mendiola is familiar with the carnage left behind by some of the human smugglers.
"These people reconsider, but by that time it's too late," he said.
The lucky ones to walk away from a wreck may return home to nothing.
"They sold every last goat, every piece of cattle they had, their house, their property," Mendiola said.

Here in northern NJ you can go to the Meadowlands Flea Market (next to Giants Stadium) and see all of the Americans selling their tools to illegal aliens that took those jobs; the illegals are flush with cash, while the Americans are selling their appliances and other belongings along with the tools they used in the past to provide for their families.
Nobodu will ever convince me that illegal immigration has any positive side to it; the legal immigration brings up enough problems. Genuine legal immigration is one thing, but the H1-B program is pure BS to keep tech sector wages down.
But Venezuela wont give them an EBT card!

I do feel bad that many countries have such toxic politics that the people feel hopeless. But I’d rather help them fix the politics where they live, than invite them here to set up colonies with toxic politics.

Vicente Fox specifically asked Bush not to close the open border with Mexico because having so many unemployed young men would de-stabilize the country. Bush obliged, and in doing so prevented an overhaul of Mexico (an oil-producing country) that was long overdue.
Rather than fix their countries they come here and in many cases make ours worse.
How about the Pope relocating them to vatican city
Or they could man-up and fix their own countries.
If that is true maybe we should set up camps along the border to house them while we work on a better solution.
At least they don't intermingle with our citizens and create additional social problems.
