Report: Issa’s Benghazi Document Dump Compromises the Identities of Libyans Working With U.S.

In the spirit of transparency, House Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) on Friday released 166 pages of unclassified State Department communications regarding Libya. But hidden in the scores of documents were the unretracted names of several Libyans working with the U.S. government.

Obama administration officials say Issa’s document dump has compromised several Libyans working with the U.S. and put their lives at risk, Foreign Policy’s Josh Rogin reports.

Issa posted the sensitive State Department documents on the House Oversight Committee’s website Friday afternoon as part of his investigation into the security errors and multiple inconsistencies in the Obama administration’s evolving story relating to the deadly terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi. The attack left U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans dead.

However, now the documents are getting attention for all the wrong reasons. Foreign Policy has more details:

Issa didn’t bother to retract the names of Libyan civilians and local leaders mentioned in the cables, and just as with the WikiLeaks dump of State Department cables last year, the administration says that Issa has done damage to U.S. efforts to work with those Libyans and exposed them to physical danger from the very groups that had an interest in attacking the U.S. consulate. However, now the documents are getting attention for all the wrong reasons. Doesn't answer the question as to why Obama lied about the timeline and what he knew.

Odd how the same Obama Administration officials have nothing to say about how they compromised the lives of Ambassador Stevens and his aide, who put their lives at risk by leaving the Embassy and going to the consulate in AlQaeda-controlled territory without any Marine guard detail (despite numerous requests for them)... or the two SEALs that came to their defense, and were left without help during the 6 HOUR firefight. Hmmm. Must be a non-optimal bump or something.

I could almost believe that Hillary let Issa get those documents just for the purpose of discrediting ALL of Issa’s investigations.

Who would put it past her?

Foreign Policy whoever they are should know the word is “redact” not “retract”. Also the bad guys already have the names of those people working with us because they were taken from the embassy during the attack.

Issa, DO NOT BACKOFF! Don’t let the guilty intimidate you or make you feel responsible. If not for you we might have never known we had traitors at the highest levels of our govt.

Last week on Radio, they were discussing C.Lamb’s boss Kennedy want to derail this investigation, and he himself released some maps during hearing and blamed Issa’s investigation.

They want hearing closed door because it will effect Obama’s re-election.

The State Department should have redacted those names before they sent it to Mr. Issa. How would Mr. Issa know if the names were known or unknown. Therefore, the State Dept. did this on purpose, knowing that he would release the info unknowingly. Very sneaky Hillary. By your own hand you have put those people in jeopardy for political purposes! How many more will you have killed?

“...unclassified State Department...”

Why unclassified if it had sensitive information in it, especially identities of sympathetic Libyan operatives?

This is a better read and at least the term redact is used instead of unretracted....

Sure. Blame Issa. The whole shebang was blown before the consulate/mission/whatever was attacked. The buck stops with the Executive branch.

It was the responsibility of State to redact or garble the names of the friendlies before the docs got into the hands of Congress. Congressional staff are the biggest leakers in Washington.

They hand to Issa a document they say is unclassified and then blame him for releasing it? The people who handed him the document need to be fired and then prosecuted for criminal negligence.

The identities of those Libyans were probably already discovered by the terrorists in the aftermath of the attack. No investigative unit from the U.S. was able to access the Consulate for weeks, and the terrorists had free-reign to take whatever documents they wanted.

What about the Obamanation leaks of the Bin Laden raid? Nobody was supposed to know which unit did it. That Pakistani doctor was arrested. And who knows how many others have lost their lives so Zero can thump his chest?

The two boobs from the State Department did the same thing at Issa's hearing. They brought a whole 'binder' full of information, some of the information had been specifically told to the Republican that had just been to Libya the information was classified. I forget his name, but he came down real hard on the two boobs.

I understood from earlier reports that the terrorists had taken all of the sensitive records from the embassy and the names of the people working with the Americans had already been compromised. Apparently there was no time to destroy files due to the swiftness of the attack and the lack of security.

I was going crazy reading “retract” in that so many times where “redact” is the correct word.

I am glad someone else is similarly unimpressed with this article.
