Has CNN done the debate word count?
vanity | vanity

Posted on 10/19/2012 10:27:25 PM PDT by airedale

CNN executives justified giving Obama more time because he speaks slower and claimed they were doing a word count to justify it. They have been silent as far as I can tell. If Obama had said significantly fewer words they'd probably let us know. If he spoke significantly more words you know they'd never say anything. If it were only a few words different they'd keep quiet and hope it dies. Has anyone run the debate through a word processor like MS Word to get the count? I'm stuck with a stupid tablet rightnow so I cannot.

I keep wondering, did Candy Crowly have a readout on her screen with the number of words for each candidate?

Heh! Can’t we all just agree that this was a farce! Whoops, that is not the same as can’t we just all get along.

Oh well...

Nah, probably a running count of her interuptions so she could maintain a 3 to 1 advantage for the anointed one.

"In number of words, it was Romney who came out ahead. He spoke 7,984 words -- 478 words ahead of Obama, who spoke 7,506 words." Per KETK

I'm guessing they didn't count "uh" as a word.

Apologies for the double post — but I was following Obama’s philosophy that if you keep saying the same thing over and over people will pretend to believe it just to get you to shut up.

It’s an hour’s worth of work. If CNN were truly interested in backing up its statement, it would have done so by now.

AFAIK, the word count has never been used to adjust the time allotted in a debate. Every debater knows that the pauses can be more effective than the words, and the pacing matters a lot.

It’s common today to give people with a “challenge” (e.g. stuttering) extended time on oral exams. CNN is essentially saying that Obama is a special-needs debater, and needed accommodations.

Can you just imagine a Republican having said, The black guy got more time because he speaks slower? Instant career-ender! These MSM pricks have such double standards.

CNN is chock full of nuts!

The debater has to speed up his delivery. I don’t care if one guy only delivers 4 words per minute and the other guy delivers 50. Time should be equal.

Honest to God. These folks are all 13 years old. But mom, everyone else in my class has one! They’re all doing it. I’m the only one who isn’t.

CNN, go to your room.

Maybe they did their average viewer count and then decided not to bother with any further counts.

What Mitt has improved over the course of four years is that he has slowed down his speech pattern to coincide with the candle power of the rest of us. It’s more effective, but it’s still really fast.

I hadn’t noticed his speed of delivery, but thinking back I do believe you’re on the right track. His delivery hasn’t bothered me this year.

His delivery at the Alfred Smith (think that’s right) gathering on Wednesday night, was masterful. Some of his head ticks were identical to Reagan. He cadence reminded me of him as well.

Watching Katie Couric bust up behind him, reminded me of leading Democrats laughing heartily at Reagan, when he was delivery funny material.

I think Romney is connecting to far more people than we suspect right now. There’s going to be some very surprised and happy/unhappy people on the morning of 11/07/12.

Nah, it’s probably pretty easy. Just copy and paste the transcript into a word program and it’ll give you the word count. I’ll go ahead and do it now.
