Obama 2016 Out on DVD
American Catholic ^ | Sunday, October 21, 2012 A.D | Donald R. McClarey

Dinesh D’Souza’a Obama 2016 is out on DVD.  It has no special features, but I would recommend purchasing it if you didn’t see the movie.  During its theatrical release earlier this year it earned a stunning 33,000,000 which is fantastic box office for a documentary.  Here is my review which I originally posted on September 2 after seeing the film in a theater:YouTube Preview Image

My family and I went to see the documentary Obama 2016 yesterday.  The documentary is based on Dinesh D’Souza’s book The Roots of Obama’s Rage which posits that the key to understanding Obama is that he is motivated by the same anti-colonial ideology that motivated his Kenyan father.  I disagreed with his thesis, so I was uncertain whether I would enjoy the movie.  Read below for my review of the film.  The usual spoiler alert applies.

We saw the movie in Kankakee, Illinois at the Paramount Theater.  I was surprised that over 200 people were present at the 1:00 PM showing which was astounding for a documentary in a relatively small community like the Kankakee-Bradley-Bourbonnais area.  The crowd was rather a good deal more serious than most movie going crowds.  They were obviously there to learn as well as to be entertained.

I downloaded my HD version from iTunes. It’s a first rate version.

Got a copy at Walmart last night. Had one ordered from Amazon, but the shipping and tax made it more expensive than one off the shelf at Walmart. Canceled on the spot with my cell phone. Watched it last night. I had paid to see it in the theater only to have my trip destroyed by acute food poisoning.

The film is also available On-Demand to many cable subscribers. I wouldn’t have known that if a family member didn’t tell me, because it is not being promoted at all (no surprise there).

For those of you who have an On-Demand service through your cable company, you can watch the film that way. I believe you have 48 hours to watch it from the time you place the order.

I’m not trying to sell the film to anyone, even though I did learn a lot from it. I just want people who might not already know that the film could be available to you right now.

It’s too new to be on Netflix, but Dreams From My Real Father IS on there.

I believe I paid $4.99 to watch 2016 through my cable company’s On-Demand service.

If you want to dig deeper into the box office numbers for 2016:

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=2016obamasamerica.htm

DirecTv is showing it on PPV, it will be on ch. 190 tomorrow.

Interestingly, the show just above it in the guide view (ch. 187) is Chernobyl Diaries....two shows about disasters side-by-side.

How much is it at Walmart? Best Buy still has it for $9.99, can order online with free shipping or for in-store pickup. A couple stores nearby sold out last week but they have it back in stock.

Buy 2016 at Best Buy

Out of curiosity - has the imposition of sales taxes on Amazon merchandise reduced the amount of stuff you buy through Amazon (vs other internet or local businesses)?

I apologize for saying it’s not available on Netflix yet. I only subscribe to the streaming service and actually forgot all about the DVD service. My mistake.

This movie is available FREE. That’s right FREE through my On Demand button on my cable service. YMMV

Needs to be shown on the alphabet channels during prime time.
We already know what’s up.

Yes it has for us. Seriously considering all other alternatives when an item comes up with a tax on it. Not all do, yet .... all will soon, is my bet.

because it is not being promoted at all (no surprise there).

Someone on Fox News asked about promotion and they said that they did not promote movies that only made 32 million. I am sure that if the movie make 100 million, they still would have ignored the movie. Who knows. I am not sure of another movie that made 32 million and was not promoted.

We went to see it at a theater a few weeks ago, here in OC SoCal.

Show time was 9:45 PM Tuesday, 9/25. Place was empty except for one other couple.
