Prediction here in CT for the area nearest NYC is for 10-14’ surge above high tide mark, with 6-8 ft waves above that. Long Island sound is going to have wind + surge pushing it all into the corner nearest NYC.
That’s funny...I got some gluten and wheat-free bread at the health food store today. :) Where are you looking on Twitter?
They seem to think we here in CT are going to have 3-4 high tides to ride out on the shore before the surge stops. For me it will be a wind event (mostly), but I’m worried about friends near the shore.
I really really really really want a drink right now. I'm all nerves. But I think it's best to ride out this storm alert.

It’s moving pretty fast. Well, apparently that store was out. I’m glad to know you are well stocked. (c;
Where I am in VA, there’s plenty of bread and most batteries, except the “D” ones.
Thanks...who is the idiot doing Mitt’s Storm Tips, I wonder. Our stores were mostly out of water...people were buying small bottles that might last about a day. Thankfully, I still have my stock leftover from Isaac.
It is accurate - I was there today

Probably some wet behind the ears Dem intern, from the looks of it.
Here’s an interesting weather blog’s take on why Sandy is unique:
http://www.wunderground.com/blog/bnorcross/show.html?entrynum=21
The Integrated Kinetic Energy (IKE)of Sandy is the highest ever calculated for a hurricane.
The media will be focused on Manhattan (much as they were focused on the French Quarter in New Orleans during Katrina, where not much happened) but there is going to be astounding damage on the coast of New Jersey, LI Sound, Raritan Bay, and the South Shore of Long Island - you'll see heavily populated barrier Islands like Fire Island cut apart in multiple places.
Local supermarkets & convenience stores out of water - overheard some woman complaining “you think they’d have more water in stock”.
As if the world is rushing to supply her when she finally deigns to go shopping.
Disagree. We are higher than Irene - probably 15 feet above mean high tide - right now, with northeast wind continuing to blow steady. It will get higher.
Now, if you have an organized low pressure eye wall hit, over a full moon high, you will have a surge on top of wind blown high water. 20 feet above mean high.
Look up Ash Wednesday Storm 1962. This storm has that potential. Do not play with this storm.
Tide already above forecast at NYC:

This is very serious folks...yeah it’s just a Cat 1, but it is much more than that due to the size and low pressure. And 24 hours of 60 mph winds can do more damage than 12 at 75.
14 foot wave at NYC Harbor entrance.

Nobody knows if it’s all hype or not! With hurricanes intelligent people prepare for the worst and hope for the best...while stupid people end up in the Superdome!

Looks like it's about 3 ft above normal.
Local news said eye will be coming in around Long Beach Island N.J..
Where is that?
