Obama swipes at Paul Ryan's Ayn Rand fandom
Associated Press ^ | Oct. 25, 2012 | Justin Sink

President Obama dismissed Ayn Rand, whom Republican vice presidential candidate Paul Ryan said at one point "inspired him," as having "a pretty narrow vision" in an interview with Rolling Stone.

"Well, you'd have to ask Paul Ryan what that means to him," Obama said in the interview. "Ayn Rand is one of those things that a lot of us, when we were 17 or 18 and feeling misunderstood, we'd pick up. Then, as we get older, we realize that a world in which we're only thinking about ourselves and not thinking about anybody else, in which we're considering the entire project of developing ourselves as more important than our relationships to other people and making sure that everybody else has opportunity – that that's a pretty narrow vision."

The president went on to describe Rand's objectivist philosophy — which emphasizes self-interest — as having overtaken the GOP.

"It's not one that, I think, describes what's best in America," Obama said. "Unfortunately, it does seem as if sometimes that vision of a 'you're on your own' society has consumed a big chunk of the Republican Party."

“He probably prefers the “Little Red Book.””

Rules for Radicals - Saul Alinsky

That’s Obama’s Magnum Opus of philosophical literature.

Obama knows as much about Rand as he does about bayonets.

“The Looter doesn’t like Ayn Rand? There’s a shocker!”

He is both a looter and a moocher.

I DOUBT he read Atlas Shrugged or Fountainhead....a little TOO laborious for him....the “Little Red Book” would be much easier.

I picked it up at 39. Which is probably when I had the necessary life experiences necessary to appreciate it.

Zero had to have someone feed him talking point crib notes - unlike Ryan and Romney, Zero can’t grasp what Ayn wrote; it’s all so very far above his pay-grade...

I doubt that Zero ever read Ayn Rand or any other book that didn’t come with a box of crayons.

Given his obvious lack of language skills (when he has no TOTUS)it would not surprise me to learn that Zero has nothing beyond a GED.

I’m not mocking people who get a GED to better their lives. I just think that Zero’s higher education is fantasy.

Obama's critique of Rand and Atlas Shrugged is almost exactly what my high school English teacher said nearly half a century ago.

What he is really saying here is that Rand’s works appeal to the immature, and eventually one “grows up” and “realizes that collectivism is a more inclusive society.” In other words, he is claiming to be enlightened.

The reality is that leftists must deny facts and true history to claim their brand of enlightenment. They hope that people are ignorant enough to deny truths and will therefore cast their ballots in support of collectivists.

Rand’s repudiation of collectivism requires enlightenment, Obama claims to be enlightened while denying factual history and hoping for widespread ignorance. By making the statements that he is making, Obama is proving Ayn right!

obama never read Ann Rand, or he would have learned something.

Apparently, neither did you.

These are some desperation attacks from Osama.

I know why he doesn’t want to talk about his own terrible record but this is getting ridiculous.

President Bumper Sticker thinks Directive 10-289 is a feature, not a bug. So yeah, I can where he would have a problem with Rand
