ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -

A home invasion victim shot one intruder in a gunfight near the University of Central Florida, while two other intruders jumped from a second-floor window and escaped, Orange County deputies said.

The home invasion occurred around 8 p.m. Thursday at 3528 Khayyam Ave. in Orlando.

According to Orange County sheriff's deputies, the victims said three gunmen entered the back of their home. One of the victims retrieved his gun and a shootout took place, with one of the intruders being struck multiple times, deputies said. Shot multiple times and survived, either he’s lucky or it was a 9mm.

There are numerous cases of people being shot multiple times and surviving with calibers up to and including .45 caliber. It is much more important *where* the person is shot, than with what caliber.

The area near UCF is getting worse and worse...even with the new student housing built near the campus

It used to be pretty clean, but now its filled with gang-banger/tagger grafitti and most of the non-student population is minority

Pretty much, if you live in the Orlando area now, you better arm up.

Time to get a gun that fire .50GI rounds!

You can get a .50 GI conversion kit for a few of the Glocks from this company.

Sure, placement is king. You are still more likely to survive 3 shots with a 9mm vs a .45.

From what I read, the survival rate is about the same. Energy of either caliber is very close.

As long as you don’t get shot in the fracas, you’ll probably be OK.

Once I was shot in the fracas and it took all the fight out of me.

A lot depends on the ammunition used but there are significant differences in the ballistics. The 9mm is generally going quite a bit faster but of course is smaller and lighter.

IMHO there’s a reason the .45 was used by the military and why they are going back to it after having the 9mm as the standard.

Yes there is. It is a much better suppressed cartridge, and a lot of people like it better if all they can use is full metal jacketed rounds, which is all active duty people in the military can use.
