Agreed about the spell checker, but I’m thrilled the home owner won’t be charged! People are fed up with crime, which will be reduced with a Romney administration, no doubt.

I find this story interesting. Arkansas does not have a “Castle Doctrine”. If the perp was fleeing the scene he was no longer a threat. There has to be more to this story.

I think that it was sensible law enforcement, something that is as extinct as the dodo bird in the cities. The man found a guy under his child’s bed and decided to shoot the criminal, no matter how far he ran away.

You sure couldn’t shoot a fleeing perp here in CA.

That’s what I like about the South. To hell with them, defend your family and home.

The civil liberty lawyers will be contacting the perp and telling him that he can sue the homeowner for shooting him. This case isn’t over.

Father finds an intruder under his child's bed.
Just thinking about this is very disturbing and extremely angering.

Actually, according to the story, he had climbed out from under the bed, jumped out the window fleeing, and was running away. That’s when Dad shot him.

If the perp was fleeing the scene he was no longer a threat.

That's often said, but it's not always true, is it? Criminals come back, sometimes for revenge. I've seen it in news items, but don't know how common it is. From a safety point of view, when you're talking about home invasion, I'd think the threshold for "no longer a threat" is when the criminal is no longer breathing.

=== = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
Right on~!!
Plus, although there could be hundreds of ‘possibilities’, perhaps it wasn’t the first time or the father recognized the runner.
For real safety sake, it should be the guys OBIT.

I definitely agree with your ‘no longer a threat’ analysis but we seem to be in the minority.

From the sounds of some of these posters one would be led to believe that after serving the idiot cookies and milk, the homeowner should have given the guy a ride home.

Also, if the HO had a picture of a ‘long gun’ over his door with the inscription “WE DON’T DIAL 9/11” he is justified in dispatching an unwanted guest and assisting his assuming of room temperature.

I prefer “father finds predator hiding under son’s bed and summarily executed him. No charges filed.”

The Leftist media has to do all they can to support the criminals even when it’s patently obvious they are guilty.

In Arkansas? Find a jury that will decide against the homeowner...

“...If the perp was fleeing the scene he was no longer a threat. There has to be more to this story.”

No longer a threat to whom? The home the criminal just fled and could come back to in order to do further harm or victimize others in the community?

The recidivism rate for criminals within three years after they get out of jail/prison is about 65%.

I have this awful fear police departments have been lying about crime numbers for some years now... in a misguided PC initiative to 'protect' blacks by understating the extent of crime.

It's why the two young reporters who were beaten a few months back were brushed off by the cops. And their story wasn't covered by the paper they wrote for - for over two weeks. Lying for blacks doesn't help blacks. It's helps the people who are doing the lying. Lots of lies going on by liberals in this country. Police are union members who report to liberals... Romney's got a lot to clean up. Just my guess...
