Just took my last walk till the storm is over and nearly got blown into Broadway traffic by a gust. Huge tree down at the Firemen’s Monument. I couldn’t believe the diner was open, but the staff all look worried, since the bridge to Queens is either closed or going to be closed.

Trash cans have all been turned upside down so they don’t start blowing around the streets but the cute New Yorkers are placing their trash on top of the upside-down cans.

More later if there is anything to report. I’m on the Hudson but at the top of a big hill.

I’m guessing that Pinnacle Cranes isn’t too thrilled at having their name so prominently displayed on that crane!

Reporting in from Hammonton, NJ (about 20 miles NNE of Atlantic City.

We still have electricity, the gust are more intense (65mph) and more regular.

My maple tree seems to be holding up pretty well so far. Only one branch is on the ground.

That storm in July that wreaked havoic here took care of all the weak branches (I hope)

I had to chuckle when Mayor Nutter of Philly told the public to keep their trash until next Tuesday. They will pick it up next Tuesday.

Aside on the damaged Tower Crane.

It isn’t just the top floors that need to be evacuated.

I have now seen the video from the site. All street facing spaces in the building and the building accross the street need to be evacuated from the ground up.

That damaged crane is capable of lossing its entire boom section which could do damage as it falls — think of an 80 foot long mumbly-peg knife possibly falling into the canyon created by the building from the 63rd floor down. The street isn’t that wide.

Actually kinda a mild day here around Boston MA , as regards warm humid air, and very little rain despite the gusts, and much preferred to 10 degrees and 30mph freezing damp wind you can get in winter, even if it does not snow. Yet the MBTA even cancelled all its service. However, i know the weather is far worse for others, may God have mercy.

I like this radar: http://www.wral.com/weather/hurricanes/page/5878513/ Click on things like Layers to the right and Model tracks above and hit > to animate or below it for Tues, etc.

Governor Tomblin just blew a golden opportunity to promote West Virginia's ski industry on national television...'Winterplace is open for business...come on down!'

See, Governor? It's easy!

I’m guessing Pinnacle didn’t want publicity this way.
