Why Liberals Think What They Do ... Victor Davis Hanson
PJ Media ^ | 30 Oct 2012 | Victor Davis Hanson

Note that Barack Obama is running not on his liberal record, but as a challenger against incumbent Mitt Romney who has done all sorts of terrible things like causing the 2008 meltdown and outsourcing jobs to China. In Obama’s view, given the supposedly tranquil world abroad, we must try nation building at home, and thus concentrate on bold new initiatives like stimulus, infrastructure, green jobs, and federalized health care — none of which have been envisioned before, much less funded. And to the extent Obama has a concrete example, he points to efforts of the private oil sector to find more gas and oil despite, rather than because of, his own efforts. Conclusion? Obama himself apparently has given up on liberal ideas in lieu of Big Bird, binders, bull****ter, movie stars, and hip-hopsters, which prompts the question: does anyone believe in liberal ideology anymore — and if so, why?

Liberalism is an elite person’s psychological investment in enjoying a guilt-free affluence.

Obama's election in 2008 was one of the best things ever to happen to this country. He has destroyed the Democrat party, the Main Stream Media, Affirmative Action, and Liberalism as an ideology.

After Watergate, the Republicans wandered in the desert for 40 years. I wonder how long it will take before the Demon Rats retake the House.

Best line of the essay and it pretty much NAILS the description of liberalism.

A Powerful Article!

One selection:

Large percentages of the population now work for government — federal, state, or local. Millions more are divorced from the tragic world of mining or drilling where nature is unforgiving. That distance has allowed Americans in droves to disengage from both the private sector, where one either makes a profit or goes broke, and the grimy processes by which we live one more day. A San Francisco professor, a Monterey lawyer, and a Sacramento bureaucrat do not know how hard it is to raise beef, grow peaches, find and pump oil and gas, and haul logs out of the forest and into Home Depot as smooth lumber, or what it takes to build a small Ace Hardware business. The skills needed to keep a 7-Eleven viable in a rough neighborhood, I confess, dwarf those of the classics professor.

That description perfectly fits a number of affluent liberals I know. And they delight in blaming conservatives for all of the world’s ills. Liberals view themselves as virtuous, superior elites who feel entitled to force their utopian ideals on everyone and tell the rest of us how to live — while they are enjoying a high lifestyle.

One thing liberals have a special hatred for is successful conservatives who attained their affluence through hard work, without needing a ton of formal “education”. Libs see these types of people as inferior and undeserving of their gains. Meanwhile, the libs are who inherited family money perceive themselves as intellectually gifted and destined to have an affluent life style.

“Liberalism” is simply the political expression of the religion of Humanism, which began with the words “you will be as gods, knowing good and evil”.

Largely enabled by borrowing 40 cents of every dollar — from foreigners. There will be a day of reckoning as this unsustainable situation can’t continue. Eventually there will be a massive reduction of these bloated workforces and many of these gubmint folks will have to get back to more productive pursuits instead of pushing paper and building bureaucracies.

I had a discussion with a person in my office. I said, “Why should I support Obama?” The reply was, and I kid you not, “Romney won’t release his tax returns. What’s he hiding?”

My response was, “Ok that’s not a reason to vote for Obama. Mitt Romney has never failed at anything in his life. A total record of success. He’s amazing. Obama has failed at everything he’s touched.”

Anyways... Liberals don’t think. It’s like they can’t or won’t see the bigger picture. It’s strange to talk to one. All they do is say snarky and sarcastic drivel. Then act like they are being clever.

“Liberalism” is what I call “advocacy based righteousness”.

Similar to “works based righteousness”, but lazier.

“I’m a good person because I advocate XYZ.”

Why do liberals think what they do?
I don’t think those heading the left today are really honest with what they think. I don’t think Obama really thinks his plan will bring prosperity, and even makes excuses to his ideologues for his plan taking 15 years before we return to prosperity.

And he has no plan for lowering gas/energy prices for even the treasured middle class. There is no light at the end of Obama’s tunnel, and he knows it. This is the “new normal”. And we are suppose to accept it.

He doesn’t believe liberalism as it is being presented and sold to the masses. That would require an acknowledgment and understanding of the free market.

He believes Communism as an end, and his plan is the means.

He believes in massive deficit, unsustainable Cloward-Piven, economy collapsing, social, economic and constitution destroying revolution.

That is the only reasonable conclusion.

My favorite anology. Enjoy:

Arguing with a liberal is like playing chess with a pigeon.
No matter how well you play chess,
the pigeon just knocks over the pieces,
craps on the board,
utters vaguely obscene sounds,

and then struts around like he won something.

Liberals think as they do as the means to an end.

Simple as that.

Also, you may have noticed that being a liberal means never having to acknowledge the consequences, unintended or otherwise, of any of your utopian schemes. Liberals live in a fantasy land.

Liberals do live in a fantasy land. Communists, socialists and every flavor of the left believe in something that is impossible and historically has never worked, because it ignores one very important and in seperable aspect of human nature; Self interest/self preservation.

The Soviets wanted to create the “New Soviet Man” who was suppose to be this unselfish, ‘..from each according to their abilities, to each according to their needs’ superhuman. Needs and abilities being defined by a bureaucrat. It never worked, and it never will. It is a fantasy land.
