Gov. Christie: Obama deserves "great credit" for storm response
CBS News ^ | October 30th, 2012 | CBS News

CBS News) New Jersey Governor Chris Christie spoke to "CBS This Morning" on Tuesday in the wake of Superstorm Sandy, which made landfall near Atlantic City, N.J. and wreaked havoc statewide.

"The state of New Jersey took it in the neck worse than any other state," Christie said of the storm's effects. "It's going to take us a while to dig out from under it, but we will dig out from under it," he added.

Christie called the level of cooperation between the local, state and federal governments "excellent" and praised President Obama's involvement. "I was on the phone for the third time yesterday, last night, with the president of the United States. He called me at midnight last night as he was seeing reports," he said before adding that President Obama accelerated the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area "without the usual red tape."

"The cooperation has been great with FEMA here on the ground and the cooperation from the president of the United States has been outstanding. He deserves great credit," Christie added.

Just saying, 3-4% of the affected area lost power.. Not really a disaster. 1% of that area loses power at any given time anyway. This is a joke.

Sigh.

THey politicized the cr** aut of Katrina. NO should’ve moved those people out of there days before. I watched them moving people out the NIGHT before, not opening the 5 out of six lanes of the highway out of there they should’ve bussed those others out of there 3 or 4 days prior, like NJ got those people off the barrier islands. EASY.
THey were STUPID and it was hard to watch. Then they blamed Bush.

It was politicized beyond recognition and set up hurricaines as political events. 0 is in there now.

I don’t know. It’s hard to witness.

The media is so bad.

You are truly an idiot. we saw the entire Jersey Shore and much of NYC and Long Island flooded. We are talking tens of billions of dollars in damages from that, and you are dumb enough to claim this was no disaster?

What storm? It’s bad enough the press overhyped Sandy, let’s not do it here. I mean, this hurricane fizzled. There is no disaster.

Gee, have you seen the damage in NJ? We have NO subway system, flooding in the tunnels and people are without power. I guess we'll all just go about our business, get back to work and shut up.

Big Government begets Big Idiots.

Slobbering all over a guy for doing what he's paid to do? We are so screwed.

At least Ubama has finally found something to do that's not above his pay grade.

All hussin has done is kiss up with the voters with a few “do as you’re told, don’t question your leaders” camera times. It’s all very freaky and a glimpse of what is to come if he’s re-elected.

Look, I live near Indianapolis, we are experiencing really high winds, rain and a little snow today. This is part of that massive storm. It has blown all the way to Indiana.

Those areas are also experiencing the cold that follows, so they have a horrible mess and it is now much colder.

Very miserable for so many people.

Obama did as much earn Christie’s kudos as he did to earn a Nobel Peace Prize.

Seeing people whine and complain about beach erosion, subway closures and power outages is going to affect the election? LOL!

There is absolutely no reason for Christie to come out and say this one week before the election. Completely unhelpful but very typical of a RINO.

Do you understand that it will take billions to fix the subways and that millions use the subways to get to work?

Do you realize just how much real estate got flooded by this event?

You really are a jerk, and that's being kind.

I don’t give a DAMN about presidential politics right now, there are lives at stake, etc.

Christie has a way with unnecessary overstatement. No reason to say that, and presidentail politics for the next week will be far more important to the future of this nation than any impact from Sandy, as bad as that is for those affected.

Maybe 'drama queen' applies to Christie at times.

While I don’t like it, Christie can’t afford as a Romney surrogate to appear to be playing politics at all.

IF HE EVEN SAID ANYTHING THAT APPEARED LESS THAN POSITIVE about Obama’s response, it would be the leading news of the day and be tied to Romney.

Sorry folks, but Christie’s right here.

He said what he had to say. To me I would have just said, thanks to the president for expressing concern/ support . The real work is on the ground here, and that will be done locally and is solely my responsibility.
