In a way, I feel sorry for Colin. He reminds me of Kunta Kinte in Roots, where the Massa keeps whipping him, telling him his name is "Toby". Kinte finally relents and calls himself "Toby"...

I think colin is addicted to being invited to all the cool Washington parties and likes the good life. He knows that he'll be mocked and ridiculed (ie, "whipped") if he kept saying he's a Republican. So, to keep Massa from whipping him anymore, he's decided to support Obama.
