(CNSNews.com) - The birth rate in the United States hit an all-time low in 2011, according to a report released this month by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

“The 2011 preliminary number of U.S. births was 3,953,593, 1 percent less (or 45,793 fewer) births than in 2010; the general fertility rate (63.3 per 1,000 women age 15-44 years) declined to the lowest rate ever reported for the United States,” said the report.

Poorly chosen, Laz. I’m going to give you credit and assume that your intended message is more about the slogan, “Work will make you free” than a suggestion that we put these people in death camps.

Absolutely not. My entire point was to put people to work in historical monuments (such as is the Nazi Death Camp in Auschwitz) as tour guides, sellers of tourist goods, commissary and food service vendors, etcetera.

Why is this happening when birth control is widely available and as we know often free of charge - likewise abortions?

The headline states that birth rates dropped and mentions the percentage of births to unmarried women -- but it doesn't say that birth rates are going up for unmarried women. The way it is laid out does sort of imply that though. (They also made a few mistakes when copying the numbers over, i.e. the overall birth rate is per 100,000 but the breakdown by age is per 1,000.)

Anyway, if anyone would like to check out the original CDC report, it shows that the birth rate is not only down overall, but down for unmarried women as well. (From 1,631,749 in 2010 to 1,609,112 in 2011...or 22,637.)

On a side note, page 19 of the report breaks it down by race. Birth rates for unmarried, non-hispanic blacks have dropped from 427,611 to 421,566 - a decline of over 6,000.

Birth control, abortion, economics, education or some combination thereof does seem to be impacting the numbers for every group except Native Americans and Asians/Pacific Islanders.

One of the most extremely effective ways to destroy a country is to have huge numbers of children born out of wedlock. A country or a civilization. Lack of married parents and stable mother and father means a huge number of feral children - abused in every way with no proper guidance, protection, discipline or love. Recipe for utter disaster. And the falling birth rate is no joke, either. Without the millions of illegals, we would see the emptiness....

You will see it in ten to twenty years regardless of the immigrants. The Hispanic birth rate is slowing, and economic conditions are having some go back home.

Once the boomer’s die off, there will be a massive economic and demographic collapse.

Wow, this doesn’t bode well for the national ponzie scheme. It also reflects just how bad our economy is. Birth rate in a developed country is a big indication on cost of living, how much folks believe in their future, etc.

A couple years back, I looked at the numbers, and the drop off is jaw dropping.Basically the birth rate fell quickly, by 35%.

The lower birth rate hit in 2009. That means, in a few years 1/3 of every kindergarten teacher, will no longer be needed. These birth numbers will then run through public education for a very long time. We will need to close schools, and lay off teachers by the truck loads.

In many places, if a man stand up for his traditional role, he will lose everything in divorce court.

The boys aren’t raised to accept female domination, but to fear it.

I would seriously think about changing churches.

It takes two to tango. Boys have been trying to get into their girlfriends petticoats for as long as time existed. Yet there were not near as many bastard children in my grandpa's day.

Unless there is a lot of rape going on, those girls getting knocked up are as guilty as the boys. Your pastor needs to have a solid reality check. My wife is a teacher, and the majority of the girls in school with kids actively sought out someone to get pregnant with. They get all kinds of benefits for doing so.

No problem. Just wait a few years until Islam takes over and Muslims with their multiple wives start reproducing in large numbers. /sarc

I'm generally a libertarian on most issues so I think we need ways to teach responsibility and accountability to people starting at a much younger age so they can make decisions with a better thought process as well as instilling the sense of being responsible. We have too much of a delayed adolescence in this society and that breeds irresponsible behaviour. We need to find some way to make the fathers and mothers responsible for the children they bring in the world and when people get married, although it should be up to the churches as such, still being a civil contract as well there should be a way to enforce responsibilities to each other as well as the children. We live too much in a throwaway society, even marriages can be dissolved at a whim. Ye, there are times divorce is needed but I think nofault divorce really put a kibosh on the nuclear family.

People who have sex should understand they are able to bring new life into the world and need to be held accountable for that.

I know many people think libertarians are libertines, most of us are not, we understand what people re going to do they will do, but I know in my eyes, I do see the need to be held responsible for whatever happens and I admire people who take responsibility or at least try their hardest to do so.

Placing the raising of children and so on to Uncle Sugar and society is not the thing to do unless one is disabled and/or as a very, very last resort.

We do need to build stronger families through our values as well as responsibility, the former is not really a government thing, it is up to each of us, but the latter we can do some enforcement on.

That would certainly work for the future, if it could actually be enforced, but the reality is now. What about the current problem? What do you suggest?

I see your point, it is a tough one. Beyond the idea of society and ourselves growing kahones to enforce responsibility and so on, the only other thing that would "solve" the problem is if the system collapses, "hey, we are sorry, Uncle Sugar is out of money. Good luck."

The architects of socialism in our country are smiling.

Well, that is their agenda, transfer the responsibility from you to the government, they've got you (speaking in a collective sense). Same with the idea of the New World Order. Both will fail over time, we can take solace in that part, the trouble is that there will be lots and lots of pain between that point until things shake out.

If we let things go the way things are, until finally the system breaks down, we will have civil war. Eventually the underclass will be exterminated. Is that your preference?

I think we are headed that way anyhoo unless there is some sort of mass awakening where the lefties say, "hey, we were wrong, let's get off this path we are on."

The only other way to stop it is, sadly, some sort of temporary benevolent dictatorship over X amount of years to set things right. Still, we could end up with something like where it will be permanent and it would go against the rule laid by our Founding Fathers.

As to your grim outlook, we could get that by default when the system breaks down to where they just end up starving, going for greener pastures (wherever that would be) and/or they will attack those with supplies to where if they don't win, the Army/Nat'l Guard/Police/Militia/Hillbillies/Bitter Clingers with Guns/Rednecks/Etc "take care of the problem."

If we don't correct the course, starting right away, we will just slide to this scenario as a default. It's sort of like in the old movies where a DC-4/5/6/7 piston engined air liner is flying across the Atlantic from New York to London. There will be a point where the red light in the cockpit will light up, the light of "No Return." You have enough fuel to get to London but not turn back to New York. If you add into the mess where half the people get sick from food poisoning, there is one heck of a storm out there and the plane is being pelted with hailstones and engine one gave out, no matter what, the plane has to make it to London. Trouble is, has our red light come on yet or not?

Or the 1979 Disney Movie comes to mind, "The Black Hole" where at the end, the mad scientists programs the starship to go into the Black Hole and the guest he hosted try to escape in a small rocketship but the black hole gets a hold of them and they go in and literally pass through Hell until an angel leads them out and back to Earth.

As an amateur observer of events and historian, I have lots to say on this as you can tell. B-)

I do agree it was poor humor although I took it as a joke myself, I have a very dark sense of humor myself. Still, it is a shame that the Nazis did pervert the phrase where "work makes you free." I mean if you work and make good enough wages, you are freer than somebody who is not. If you're able enough to have some left over after necessities, then you are free to spend your money on what you like.

Either that or if The Collapse comes, nature abhors a vacuum and there will be someone who comes along and take power and it will be up to the motives of that person/group. If the motives are bad, the local warlord/dictator/whatever would most likely try this as a solution, more often as a source of free/cheap labor at the expense of freedom, human history is full of this, sadly.

The concepts of "shame" and "social sanctions" have totally gone by the wayside. We celebrate it now on TV programs, such as "Teen Mom" and "Honey Boo Boo."

True. I don't know how to restore social sanctions, at least quickly, but we can at least stop subsidizing dysfunction.

Do you really think men for the most part are virtuous in this area? That it’s men that want to wait till marriage, but women are pressuring the men to have pre-marital sex? And, on top of that, that it’s only a few men that crack under the pressure from women to have sex? Really?

The men want sex. Thus it has always been.

In the past, there were two factors that worked to keep sex within marriage more:

(1) Earlier marriage: girls went from living at home (with Daddy looking over them) to living with their husband without living on their own as much.

(2) Major disincentives to being a single mom. Women had more of an incentive to say NO, even in the face of the man leaving over it. In the final analysis, except for the case of violent rape, women decide whether sex will happen, and it's women's attitudes that need to be changed.

So things will probably stay the same for quite a while. I don’t think the system will collapse anytime soon.
