FORT DODGE, Iowa The United States is a "purple nation," Vice President Joe Biden said Thursday, striking a bipartisan note as politicians come together to recover from Hurricane Sandy and as a key independent endorsed President Obama's re-election.
"We gotta stop this blue and red. We're a purple nation, man," Biden said here, hours after New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg's endorsement announcement.
"The essence of what he said is we've got to work together," the vice president told the crowd of 475 gathered at the Opera House at Fort Dodge Museum. "We all got to be in this together."
Though Biden has kept up his attacks on the Republican ticket since Sandy hit the East Coast earlier this week, he's also been heralding the cross-the-aisle cooperation of the governors and mayors in areas hit by the storm.
"What came out of this, this godawful storm in the East, was cooperation like it used to exist when I first got into office," he said earlier in the day in Muscotine, Iowa. There and again in Fort Dodge, he listed Republicans he'd worked with over the years, including former Secretary of State Colin Powell, retiring Sen. Dick Lugar and former Sens. Chuck Hagel, Bob Dole and Alan Simpson.
Biden's remarks here were not without Biden's usual partisan punch, as he attacked Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan for favoring tax cuts for the rich while wanting to cut spending on programs important to lower and middle class Americans.
He also went after the Republican ticket's changing policy positions, but suggested that their deceits are catching up with them.
"The problem is, you never can outrun your shadow," he said. "It's just not possible. You know, it always catches up with you. Unless the sun goes down."
He is the gift that just keeps giving ;)
The "Opera House" is not that big, so they must not have expected many more. Joe might have attracted more people if he'd either given free pizza to the ICCC students next door, or announced beforehand that he would deliver the speech en Español.
Fort Dodge is one of those Iowa "urban enclaves" - such as they are - that is perpetually run by Democrats, so there is always a scam of some sort going on to enrich the "right" people, who help keep Democrats elected, so that there is always a scam of some sort going on to enrich the "right" people... etc.
Interestingly, the local paper has had a recent history of playing it straight, and they did endorse Mitt Romney about a week ago.

Yeah, well, you’re a purple helmet, Joe.
The United States is a "purple nation," ... "We gotta stop this blue and red. We're a purple nation, man," ... "The essence of what he said is we've got to work together," ... "We all got to be in this together." ...Biden has kept up his attacks on the Republican ticket since Sandy hit the East Coast... went after the Republican ticket's changing policy positions, but suggested that their deceits are catching up with them. "The problem is, you never can outrun your shadow," he said. "It's just not possible. You know, it always catches up with you. Unless the sun goes down."Notice the lack of terms like 'alleged' or 'claimed' or 'as Biden said' or any quote marks around "changing policy positions" or "deceits"? That's the dead giveaway that this ridiculous trash was written and edited by Partisan Media Shills, and it is they who inserted those Demagogic Party talking points.
Uh, Joe? I think you've had enough.
Why don't you just turn in early tonight, okay?
And also screw you if you are white. Even Obama a few days ago said brown and black children are the future what no future for white children?. It is the Democrat party who divides by sex, race and income.
FUJB and your stupid cohort BO
More like the size of a pea!
Joe Bidet will be purple for real soon enough, hopefully..
Well said. Amen.
Hey man, where was all this purple nation crap when you were helping CRAM Obozocare down this nation’s throat???
Remember the big effin deal man?
