The New York City Marathon has been cancelled, the mayor’s office confirmed to 1010 WINS on Friday afternoon.

Earlier, Mayor Michael Bloomberg came under fire for pressing ahead with thieweekend’s New York Marathon in a city still reeling from Superstorm Sandy, with some New Yorkers and many public figures saying that holding the 26.2-mile race would be insensitive and divert police and other important resources when many are still suffering.

At a news conference, Bloomberg defended his decision as a way to raise money for the stricken city and boost morale less than a week after Sandy flooded neighborhoods, knocked out power to hundreds of thousands homes and businesses and killed at least 41 people.

DNC run government is more heartless than any Corp ever was.

His only concern was the 340M the city can make.

Conservative pressure freed resources for the victims!

I would, but it would mainly involve adding profanity to your already-accurate description of him, and the Mods aren't big on that...

Rampant projection is one of the defining characteristics of a liberal.

My niece flew from ATL to NYC today to run in the marathon. She was training for over a year for this. Bloomie should’ve done this on Tuesday and saved a lot of people time and money. Meaghan will never get her money back.

That is a shame. It just goes to show how ignorant politicians are. It’s bad enough that people in NYC have to deal with that moron, it’s something else when out of state people have to suffer.

I have an idea on raising money...

Start selling 32oz. cokes in Times Square. That will bring the crowds in... :)

He should be dragged out of office in a straight jacket.

This goes anti-semitic before its over. No fan of Bloomberg, wish New Yorkers had better sense— but they don’t. They voted for the guy. The comparison between Bloomberg post-Sandy with Rudy after 9-11 is coming, and it ain’t going to be pretty.

Your niece should think of running the Huntsville, AL marathon in early December; its MUCH less crowded, not hilly, easy to enter and she doesn’t waste her race preparation.

EBT cards aren’t working where there’s no power...

so, without the marathoners to prey on what are the poor to do now Mr Bloomberg?

Don’t buy anything this jackass says. He did this to take the heat off hoping no one would notice the really awful things they are doing.
