“I don’t remember the union thugs in New Orleans running off the non-union utility workers from out of state either.”

The difference is that the unions in the NE are mob controlled.

The media wants to set up this story about “Obama the Hero”. So the scope of the bureaucratic bungling must be concealed to preserve the myth.

By this point in the Katrina timeline Bush and company had 40,000 people evacuated out of New Orleans

Do the 3 stooges Bloomie-Christie-obama even have a plan to relocate people out of this crisis area?

are they going to wait until the babies and elderly start dying of hypothermia, diarrhea and dehydration in those high rises and no-longer habitable suburbs?

Maybe Trump and Giuliani better start working NOW with Romney's people ...adult leadership is missing

Drop them where? In dirty water to contaminate them? What is the CEP of an air drop? Who holds the ground to keep folks from getting squished?

I've field fed troops for Uncle.

It can be done. It takes time. Logistics is hard. Harder when the president is stupid and has no clue about logistics.

I wonder if the ice is in bags and can still be given away as water on Monday? Probably not - I imagine there is some regulation that the bags are not approved drinking water storage containers.

There are macro issues and micro issues here. Part of the problem, actual leadership has been deemphasized in our culture, in favor of “consensus building” that of course is just nonsense and by definition a lack of leadership.

A company I worked for, for a while had a fondness for the idea of "management by consensus". In reality, when consensus is required, it turned into a dictatorship of the most obstinate.

Update from son: still sitting at staging center (since 6am). People coming up asking him for ice. He can't distribute it because FEMA hasn't okayed it. Meanwhile, at the distribution center, 10 pallets of ice are unloaded and sitting outside, slowly melting. People aren't waiting for FEMA and taking it. Who's running this sideshow?

Sounds like the stories I read about FEMA during Katrina. Nobody making decisions.

To my knowledge Staten Island hasn’t seceded from the state of New York and therefore voted for Obama via the electoral vote process. Basic civics. I’ve said nothing about thr religion of Staten Island residents, but you’ve got a bee in your bomnet about something, though. Are you union? Is this another stupid turf thing? You guys should really try to get pasr that.

“Ms. Wright was unable to say when or how the water would be delivered from the distribution center to needy Hurricane Sandy victims in New Jersey, Staten Island, Long Island, and other boroughs of New York City. Vendors “are currently being evaluated,” she said, and when the vendors are announced, they will provide information on how local distribution will occur.”

We’ve kind of flown under the radar for a while and had a tie line from Houston which required a voice response in order to be transferred to the new number. Discontinued the tie-line in order to reduce expenses but now the new (old) second number is listed in the local business pages and we’re showing up on the internet. Suddenly getting all sorts of what may very well be robocalls. Go figure!

That's four gallons per person; time isn't in the equation. That four may have to last you three hours of three weeks. Did you mean that a person can only use a gallon a day?

The Kenyan must go.

I saw/heard Christie every time he fell all over Hussein on TV that day. I could not believe my ears - he just kept on and kept on praising Hussein like they were twin brothers. He could have thanked him, fine, but he kept gushing and gushing.

I heard someone on CNN later say Christie has figured out Romney isn't going to win so he's making friends with Hussein. I have no idea, but I do know he was way too friendly with Hussein based on his past speeches, etc..

Typically, when planning your basic needs for water - personal hydration and spot hygiene, you work with a gallon per person per day.

That turned out not to be the case in my extended howling wilderness experience. More like 5 gallons a day. I suppose for 3 days, it might work, but not for much longer. Not if you are cooking and cleaning.

1 gallon is basically bare minimum. Hydration, brushing teeth, sponge bath every couple of days. Maybe a bit for cooking rice but not pasta. In colder weather you don’t need as much since you are not sweating out as much.

It can be done in less than an hour! from Dover!

The government can't organize a 2 car funeral in less than an hour.

It can be done. It will be done. It will take time. They won't be air-dropping stuff, regardless of your exclamation points.

Sealed water is useless if the outside is contaminated with hep B.

Get a grip. How well are you prepped to ride out the time it takes for the government to show up?

Actually, my mountain man experience had me using more water in the winter than in the summer. That was real-world kind of stuff. And for over a year.

3 days, maybe you could get by with a gallon a day. It takes that long to dehydrate to death (on average) without any water.

Having lived the real deal, I keep 60 gallons minimum on hand in the house for my first 3 days. I can do it on 5 a day. It sucks. Hard.

What we need are photos that we can run on the net and let them go viral.

We need to show zero campaigning in one slide and people in line for gas in the other.

Zero campaigning in one side and torn down houses with people on the roofs with no where to go in the other.

Its all there. All we have to do is capture the video and the stills.

Trust me - if you are going through a week without power in Florida or Texas in August, you will need more water - lots more - than a week in New Jersey in November. You would probably sweat three gallons per day in the August scenario.

I'm not saying one gallon is optimal or even bearable. But it is survivable under the conditions currently in the region.
