That is what true spiritual nobility is all about.
Now, why does the Bible say that the Bereans were more "noble" than the Thessalonians?
11 Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. (Acts 17:11)
You see, the Bereans didn't take Paul only at his word; they searched the "scriptures" -- the Old Testament for them -- to see if it reinforced/matched his teachings. They tested any new revelations by existing ones.
Now why do we know that truth exists as proclaimed by the church universal? Because ...the church of the living God, [is] the pillar and foundation of the truth. (Apostle Paul, 1 Timothy 3:15)
We know God speaks thru the church, even proclaiming truth to the forces of darkness who left heaven: His intent was that now, through the church, the manifold wisdom of God should be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realms, 11 according to his eternal purpose that he accomplished in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Ephesians 3:10-11)
I recall that some passage admonishes us that no man knows the mind of God and I certainly dont believe that God talks directly to any fallable man, regardless of their piety.
Well, you have cited a passage that does stress that only the Holy Spirit knows the divine Mind...
...But the Bible doesn't stop there, because it then says that same Holy Spirit indwells His body-and-blood church:
...as it is written: What no eye has seen, what no ear has heard, and what no human mind has conceived the things God has prepared for those who love him 10 these are the things God has revealed to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who knows a persons thoughts except their own spirit within them? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 What we have received is not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, explaining spiritual realities with Spirit-taught words. 14 The person without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God but considers them foolishness, and cannot understand them because they are discerned only through the Spirit. 15 The person with the Spirit makes judgments about all things, but such a person is not subject to merely human judgments, 16 for, Who has known the mind of the Lord so as to instruct him? But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:9-16)
John 3:16-18 (NIV)
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. 18 Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of Gods one and only Son.
Believe it or don't - your choice.
The evidence seems to indicate that more peopled would rather be praised into Hell; than be rebuked into Heaven.
What the world calls Mormonism will rule every nation.... God has decreed it, and his own right arm will accomplish it. This will make the heathen rage.
But why do some CONSERVATIVEs on FR go all MEGO on us when SCRIPTURE is posted? Dismissing it with an imperial wave of the hand?
Obama will rule the nation called USA.... God has decreed it, and his own right arm will accomplish it. This will make the FR 'conservatives' rage. If at any time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be uprooted, torn down and destroyed, 8 and if that nation I warned repents of its evil, then I will relent and not inflict on it the disaster I had planned. 9 And if at another time I announce that a nation or kingdom is to be built up and planted, 10 and if it does evil in my sight and does not obey me, then I will reconsider the good I had intended to do for it. Psalm 22:27-28 All the ends of the earth will remember and turn to the LORD, and all the families of the nations will bow down before him, 28 for dominion belongs to the LORD and he rules over the nations. Daniel 2:20-21 ...Praise be to the name of God for ever and ever; wisdom and power are his. 21 He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.

God has decreed it...
Please, folks; don’t get mad at me; for I am just the messenger.
I report: you decide.
Read what I said. I did not lambast anyone for not voting for Romney. I had to hold my nose to do so myself. I lambasted them for voting for Obama. Nobody that voted for Obama is a conservative, regardless of what they may think. Unless they, too, are an idiot.
Further, I'm not a Republican at all. I'm an independent conservative with libertarian (little ‘l’) leanings. I vote Republican as the lesser of 2 evils.
Christians make mistakes, too. But what's your excuse, and why are you so hate filled this morning?
I think you may have gotten caught up in the stormsurge of those posting here that are claiming that to NOT vote for ROMENY is the same as voting for Obama.
Good Q...and well-framed.
I know it's a rhetorical Q, but I'll add my thoughts.
I can't speak to specific motivations of any given FReeper; but generically I think people are relativistic & don't want the Bible as their applicable Guide in life.
To wave it off as authoritative to their life, they need to assume self-authority over it.
However, I can respect the person who just cannot bring themsleves to vote for Romney as a matter of principle, or even theology. I think that it did enable an Obama victory, but still it is a legitimate, principled choice.
But, to actually vote for Obama is a totally different matter. Only pig ignorance or evil intentions could justify such.
If you are an “evangelical” and voted for Obama, and really are a Christian, then I would suggest studying the Scriptures a little more closely, and add a good dose of prayer.
As for the Mormons, while I know about as much as I care to about their theology, I don't know enough to determine if a vote for Obama is consistent with it. Based on my observations of the few that I know personally, I tend to doubt it. But that's just an opinion.
Please make certain you respond to the correct post next time. Also, search for help in making your posts easier to read and understand, and learn how to use italics, when you wish to quote another post, paragraphs, and even bold!
It's fun! And easy, too! if you have a brain.

***Yes, he did. Sorry about that, Chesley.
Of course voting does, and should, take discernment. We can't always be right.
For instance, in the election just past, the office of probate judge was up for grabs. The incumbent was a long-time Democrat, who actually is a fine man and a good probate judge. The opponent, a Dem turned Republican, is also a fine man, as near as I can tell.
My wife wanted me to vote for the Dem, although she was voting R on every other position. Namely because he was getting involved in a terrible situation at her (state) place of employment, and was working to make things better.
I thought long and hard about the choice. In the end, I could not vote for the Democrat. They need to be turned out at every opportunity, IMO.
Is this the right choice? Should we vote the Party or the Man? What about the right man in the wrong party? I suspect that it often depends of the circumstances and the times. In these times my thinking is to leave them no base of power.
But it was a tough choice.
So, here you are calling conservatives mean names, trolling, and now nitpicking about italics & bolding. I guess you weren’t here on FR when we had to deal with people leaving their italics on, and for several posts afterward everyone else’s stuff was in italics. Fun! Easy! Yeah, right. When there’s an italics lock key on my keyboard I’ll use it. Or even when I can simply copy & paste from MSWord and have it survive. So are you done trolling? Are you done banging on conservatives on this conservative website? Maybe you’d have more fun going to unicorn.com and banging on people who believe in unicorns. You know what that is called? TROLLING.
Does that make me a heathen if I rage against it?
Yes, but you would be a heathen in their eyes anyway. That is how they view non-LDS.
We told you guys a wet RINO Mormon who gave the Tea Party a lukewarm brushoff would lose and now you are surprised??
Apology accepted :)
I apologize, too. I may have gooten a little personal, but I hadn’t had my cup of coffee, yet.
I witnessed to Mormon FRIENDS.
Reaganaut can tell you what your so called “Mormon FRIENDS” thought of you...
“Reaganaut can tell you what your so called Mormon FRIENDS thought of you...”
Really? He knew my friends? Next you’ll be telling me that no Catholic uses a condom because their religion rejects using birth control.
I know what the Mormon church teaches. I also knew my friends. Please don’t let your rabid hatred control you. You are discussing something you have no knowledge of.
I’m not surprised by the election because I’m surrounded by liberals. They love obama & are thrilled by his re-election. Now I can stop arguing with them & have a calm Thanksgiving.
after the 2008 elections we were called bigots etc and told if we had voted fort Willard the Mormon and he had won the nomination for the GOP, he would have beaten Obama...
all we had needed to beat Obama was to have had Willard as our candidate..
It was all our fault...
OK lets look at what we know now...
2008 McCain beat Willard but couldnt beat Obama who was very popular and riding high...
2012 Willard bought himself the nomination but couldnt beat a much weakened and very unpopular Obama ...a shoo in for just about any Republican..
We HAD Willard for our candidate BUT HE DIDNT WIN...
End of story...
While I may not know your friends, I DO know (from personal experience and years of being in ministry to them) as do other exmo’s here know how the LDS treat gentiles (all non mormons) and what they say to their faces IS NOT what they really think about them or what they say to each other about the gentiles (you).
Mormons put on this nice face, friendly, pleasant, etc to outsiders (even close friends) ONLY because it makes the LDS church ‘look good’ and makes them more likely to ‘investigate’ (consider converting) the LDS church. Their goal in being nice is ONLY to convert you to Mormonism, and even if you say you will never do it, they don’t give up hope.
What they say to themselves and each other about non-Mormons, especially those ‘stupid Evangelicals’ is that they feel sorry for you, how stupid you are, how they are right and you are wrong and how you would be happier if you just converted to ‘the one true church’. If you are nice about your ‘witness’ to them, they see you as weak and not really believing your faith and see you as MORE of a target.
They constantly (to each other) bash Christians and Christian doctrine and consider them stupid and morally lazy.
I’ve pinged some other ex-mormons who will tell you they saw Christians the same way when they were LDS.
In short, your Mormon friends are lying to you in hopes of making the LDS church look good and getting you to convert.
I know, amazing isn’t it. We prophesied this and now they are stoning the prophets.
Actually, I don’t think obama was ever unpopular. I continually encounter people who support him. Plus, I read comments on Facebook from relatives who like him. Most people wanted him, & that’s why he’s president.
They are not allowed to have facial hair, they are told how to dress, how to act, what to do every single night of the week, etc. They are told to seek out and devour people like you.
There are two concepts you must keep in mind when dealing with members of this cult:
1. Think 'Stepford Wives', like in the movie. Completely brainwashed anc controlled....Putting forth a deceptive image for the cult to help recruit.
2. AMWAY....Most multi-level marketing campaigns start and are run out of Utah, and for a good reason, they are all based on the same organizational method as the cult. They are on your porch because they want you in their "downline" either as productive recruiters yourselves or as their eternal slaves.
I am a saved LDS Sect "high Priest", same as Romney.
Shhh! Don't tell Ada, Michigan that their Amway corporate headquarters is fake, and that the REAL one is in Utah!
A lot of people think Obama’s doing a great job, & it’s all Bush’s fault. Plus, they believe everything the media says.
My local paper endorsed obama.
Young people relate to obama. They’ve been brainwashed by the media & Hollywood.
My nephew & wife in LA think they’re going to get obamacare for free. They all want the Freebies, & they think obama is handing them out.
Obama was goin to win against any Republican.
You do know as well as I do that AMWAY is led by and proliferates among LDS members, along with Maleleuka, Pampered Chef, the candle one, the scentsy one, the basket one, the makeup one etc etc etc.
This is so common in Utah the writers of "Big Love" even wrote it into one season with Margie bankrupting her neighbor with "Goji Juice."
It evidently is for Harry Reid.
He's been quoted as saying that his MORMONism is what made him a Democrat.
I've not seen any exigesis (SP?) for his claim; so I'll have to assume that HE has found something in MORMONism to be the way he is.
Richard DeVos of Grand Rapids, MI, co-founder of Amway, Religion: Christian Reformed Church
Jay VanAndel of Grand Rapids, MI, co-founder of Amway, Religion: Christian Reformed Church
Doug DeVos of Grand Rapids, MI, co-CEO of Alticor (was Amway), Religion: Protestant
Steve Van Andel of Grand Rapids, MI, co-CEO of Alticor (was Amway), Religion: Roman Catholic
Since these things are easily researched, perhaps you should do more homework.
I realize that Wikipedia is not the last word in accuracy, but they are sincerely trying to gain ground on "Big Love" for credibility. Maybe within a few years, they'll have a crack team of researchers to compete with "Big Love" and we can start to place more trust the information we find there.
Office of First President & Living Prophet®:
November 8, 2012
The masses are taught not to think for themselves but to just do what ‘feels’ right. The amount of illogical thinking is appalling.
And those who DO think for themselves are often attacked. Sad reality of today.
DAMN you Obama voters!
“In short, your Mormon friends are lying to you in hopes of making the LDS church look good and getting you to convert.”
Sorry. Some of them I’ve known over a 30 year period. Many of the Mormons I knew never made ANY attempt to convert me. They simply were not that religious.
Your accusation has been made against Baptists who hoped and prayed for the conversion of Jews and Mormons and others. It isn’t true then, either.
I’ve also known converts out of Mormonism who have had divided families most of their lives. It isn’t true then, either. Life simply isn’t the way you portray it.
You found some co- folks.
Didja leave any out?

Certainly, by whatever your definition of "leadership" is, I must have.
However, since most people inexplicably equate the term "leadership" with "Chief Executive Officer" when discussing a corporation, I thought it best not to rock the boat by declaring some mid-level Amway participant living in Orem, UT to be the Alticor/Amway corporate "leadership." Besides, the DeVos family called from Michigan and were quite insistant that I not do that.
My local newspaper, The Express-Times, endorsed obama. Glad were not subscribers anymore...
EDITORIAL: Re-elect President Obama
I went to bed that night wondering what Willard would do with 2012 gallons of Green Jello he and the family had to celebrate with while they watched the fireworks ...
They did justice to the funeral potatoes though...
Neither is death...
I suspect I know more about Mormonism than you do. It wouldn’t be hard, since you seem to believe I was in danger of having the Mormon Church hire an assassin to kill me when I lived in Utah. This isn’t 1850.
I suspect you might be right.
But I KNOW that I post more of it's scripture, teaching and history than you do.
Oh; I'm sure they could find a volunteer to do it.
“But I KNOW that I post more of it’s scripture, teaching and history than you do. “
Yes, and you seem to think this has relevance for a Presidential candidate and that Obama is therefor a better person to have in office. Thus you post this on a political thread rather than in the religious forum.
Maybe you think this does some good. I doubt it does, but I’m already convinced Mormonism is false. I had these sorts of debates in high school in the 70s before I ever moved to Utah. I’ve read thousands of pages of material.
So what is the point in lecturing me, or posting a link to CARM?
“Oh; I’m sure they could find a volunteer to do it.”
Well, they didn’t in the 7 years I lived there, and failed again when I visited in October...
No, you said trying to become wealthy is a biblical principle now YOU prove that.
We are not electing a Christian king. At the same time I will not be party to advancing and anti-christian ideology.
