WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner offered Wednesday to pursue a deal with a victorious President Barack Obama that will include higher taxes ‘‘under the right conditions’’ to help reduce the nation’s staggering debt and put its finances in order.

‘‘Mr. President, this is your moment,’’ Boehner told reporters. ‘‘We want you to lead.’’

Boehner said House Republicans are asking Obama ‘‘to make good on a balanced approach’’ that would including spending cuts and address government social benefit programs.

‘‘Let’s find the common ground that has eluded us,’’ Boehner said while congratulating the president on winning a second term.

The Ohio Republican spoke a day after the president’s clear re-election victory. He said conditions on higher taxes would include a revamped tax code to make it cleaner and fairer, fewer loopholes and lower rates for all.

I agree.
Let it crash and the makers will rebuild the way they want.

He didn’t say a higher tax increase — he said higher revenues from tax reform based on LOWER tax rates.

The faster he quits working with the Ghetto Slug in the White House the faster we can let the Rats torch our economy and then we can finally start rebuilding.
It’s like continuing to put money into a house for repairs when it would be cheaper and faster to just tear it down then rebuild.

So you would rather have the economy crash into depression than get lower tax rates, a simplified code, and more revenue (which is what conservatives have wanted for years?)

Very strange logic.

Smart move to go first. Obama will either be forced to meet the “right conditions” or he will be the obstructionist. Now, Obama will lie and say they Republicans won’t compromise but Boehner is already on record. OBAMA WILL REFUSE TO COMPROMISE BECAUSE HE DOESN’T HAVE TO. He never has to run again and he will refuse to do anything to compromise his radical leftist principles.

Some of the Freepers around here don’t get it.

The GOP should get out of the way and let Obama take responsibility for his own rhetoric.

If he wants to get rid of those evil Bush policies, force him to do it alone through sequestration and expiring the Bush tax cuts.

The GOP doesn’t need to say anything except “here you go, you got what you wanted.”

If the GOP negotiates a new deal, they will get all the blame and Obama all the benefit, whether it works or not.

My philosophy is not to “run a first-world business economy” for now. Let taxes rise on everyone, the economy will suffer but that is superficial and temporary and it will come back once we get a better deal. We won’t get a good deal as things stand now. The automatic spending cuts will kill the defense industry (100’s of thousands of layoffs). That will bring the Dem senators to the table very quickly.

I’m with the “give Obama” everything he wants crowd.
Say it out loud to the press. Tell Bama to send the congress his plan, we promise to pass it and he can own it. That from the pubbies would scare the sh’# out of him.

Exactly. Why I say give Obama everything he wants! Bring about the crash faster! Let’s get on with it. America lusted after Obama? Give them Obama!

Boehner is going after lower rates, a simplified code and spending cuts. Why should he shut up?

Because he won't get any of that. He needs to simply let Obama go down with the ship. Let the Bush tax cuts expire. Let all the SS deductions rise. Let the defense workers get laid off. Let Lockheed Martin stock price tank. We need all of that and more.

Actually, Boehner is talking about eliminating deductions which in code is “tax increase”. There is NO lower tax rate. Boehner is playing word games, knowing he's not getting a damn thing out of it.

Letting it crash is the only way that the American Idiots that voted for Obama may learn.

You totally get it.

The thing about most people is that they never learn from their mistakes unless the consequences of their own stupidity is harsh and staring them right in the face in the most stark and obvious way.

The fact is the California, New York, New Jersey, and Virginia liberals, the Midwest liberals, and all these other Blue state folks that fell in love with Obama and his BS need to live with his BS.

And the only way they are ever going to feel the pain of their own stupidity is with sequestration and getting their taxes raised by allowing the Bush tax cuts to expire.

No, Boehner is talking the same thing Romney talked. Read the article. It includes lower rates.

A simpler tax code (reducing deductions) has been part of the conservative platform for years.

Howevr, MSM has confused the naive by now calling it a "tax hike". You will never get the code simplified if you buy into their game.

My opinion to this point is to simply allow the electorate to see liberalism in its full glory. Let them have it all. Once it crashes, we pick up the pieces.

They should approve Obama’s budgets unanimously.

Because he won't get any of that.

Boehner has some capital. Obama was furious when the Speaker walked away from the table last time. And he would be perfectly happy do it again if Obama acts the same way.

“The House speaker, John A. Boehner of Ohio, striking a conciliatory tone a day after the Republican Party’s electoral drubbing, said on Wednesday that he was ready to accept a budget deal that raises federal revenue as long as it is linked to an overhaul of entitlements and a reform of the tax code that closes loopholes, curtails or eliminates deductions and lowers income tax rates.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/08/us/politics/back-to-bargaining-table-with-fiscal-cliff-dead-ahead.html?pagewanted=all

It's all code speak for raising taxes. Eliminating deductions is contradictory to “lowers income tax rates”.

Romney explained this many times.

You lower rates and eliminate deductions at the same time. No aggregate tax increase and revenue neutral. But the tax code gets simplified and the tax base is broadened.
