President Obama also won the popular vote by 2 million votes. The President won 303 electoral votes to 206 for Romney. We knew about 11 pm that the President had won when Ohio was called for him.
Democrats also held the Senate. Elizabeth Warren won with a good margin in Massachusetts. Claire McKaskill won in Missouri beating Akin-he of the legitimate rape comment. Joe Donnelly also won in Indiana beating Republican Mourdock. Warren won by eight percentage points. Donnelly won in Indiana by 6 percentage points. Sherrod Brown won re-election. Tammy Baldwin won becoming the first openly gay Senator. Democrats picked up seats in the Senate.
Progressives like you worked their hearts out all over America for our people, our country, our president, and progressive Democrats. We fought and beat the tea party, the oligarchs and massive rich, Karl Rove's strategy, ALEC, the Koch Brothers, and all those who would tear down democracy and destroy the middle class and the labor movement. Women spoke strongly. Latinos spoke strongly. The LGBT community spoke strongly. And AFRICAN-AMERICANS fought back against the neo-poll taxes and disenfranchisement.
And as always our labor movement provided the President a foundation of support, energy, and strong presence.
The truth for progressives is that we are slowly winning the battle of ideas, future constituents, policies of justice. This election was won with progressive constituencies and a PROGRESSIVE AGENDA.
The President won with huge healthcare reform that we must continue working on and commitment to the middle class and acommitment to workers and unions and collective bargaining.
Republicans wake up this morning scratching their heads realizing they have lost 5 of 6 Presidential popular votes.
Now we must begin to think about how we build on this great victory to build a big struggle on America's biggest issues - inequality, investment in America and jobs (the agenda Dr. Richard Levins and I laid out in Getting America Back to Work), collective bargaining, honoring workers, respect for every person in America.
We in the labor movement must continue to protect and expand collective bargaining - and to lay the foundation for the opportunity to create a struggle and perhaps a movement that addresses the economic issues of the middle class and THE POOR. We have to think outside our membership and act like the voice of all working families embracing new forms of organizational structures that work when the all or nothing NLRB fails or is irrelevant. We must act with boldness. NOW IS THE TIME TO END 35 YEARS OF WAGE STAGNATION and TO PUSH HISTORY FORWARD.
Self-fulfilling prophecy because they’ll all go on entitlements that the rich soon-to-be poor man can no longer pay for. We are so doomed it’s beyond salvation.
Me too. At their site, comments go through screening by moderator then never gets posted because it might enlighten someone. Can’t have that! They must remain ignorant and focus all their arousal on 0bama, as usual.
Communists are the most censorious people on the planet. I heard a hard core, acknowledged Communist tell someone tongue in cheek during the presidential campaign, “I’m an Obama Democrat.”
When we are doomed they will be too. No one to bring in the money. The Government does not have any without us; of course they can print some but that will not hold water very long.
They have zero comments.... must mean no one likes them.
“Republicans need to stop using red as their color (red states).”
The Red media did that (for obvious reasons); I’ve said before that we should just change it back (avoiding confusion by using “Red” - capital R - for Dem states).
Glenn Beck, Mark Levin, Rush Limbaugh are all correct.
Do not leave out Michael Savage from this list of modern prophets.
You have to wonder what the communists want when they support Obama; have they been to our welfare reservations? Sure, you’ll eat for free and have a roof over your head, but conditions there are horrendous. Newark NJ had no reason to vote for Obama; they’ve lost a lot of ground in four years.
I posted this in 2004.
Nothing else to say.
What? Weren’t you telling us that we Conservatives had no choice, and that conservatives HAD to vote for Romney? ;)
I understand what they seek to accomplish and how they are going about it; I just don’t understand how they have any support among people who have been living for generations in filthy government housing with schools that are just warehouses for cattle. For 50 years our northern cities have been cesspools of drugs, violence, and despair; when will those people figure there has to be a better way? Their lives are shorter, their children die violent deaths or are imprisoned, and this is worth food stamps and rent vouchers?
Here in the northeast blacks are being displaced/replaced by Hispanics (since welfare reform cut down their birthrate by ending “cash for kids”); future elections will be determined by future voters, and many of those will be Hispanics. White voters are being displaced/replaced by Asians, since the economy and an anti-family legal system cut down the white birthrate as well. Millions of whites didn’t sit this election out; they died of old age since the last election.
Before you become a “super taker” make sure you understand Cloward-Piven strategy. You are playing right into their hands.
From the article. Absolutely 100% true.
” You quoted Savages red diaper doper baby, but failed to give him credit for being the first to proclaim Obumbo as a Marxist/Leninist, just as his father...which ever one it is.
More emphasis needs to be put on Obamas Communist ideology.”
Republicans didn’t choose red, the media did in more ways than one.
What is between their ears comes from generations being taught by NEA UNION PUBLIC SCHOOLS
Some glimmer of hope.
Hoping to set a precedent for other states, Michigans labor unions spent months pushing a referendum to amend the states Constitution to prohibit the legislature from ever enacting a law that would curb the powers of public employee unions.
But this push to enshrine collective bargaining rights in the Constitution was roundly defeated in Tuesdays election, 58 to 42 percent an embarrassing loss for labor in a state known as a cradle of American unionism.
“Justice” through Government Policies...
failed to give him credit for being the first to proclaim Obumbo as a Marxist/Leninist, just as his father...which ever one it is.
Well, I am not sure that Savage was my first knowledge
of Obumbo’s Marxist upbringing.
I think it has been widely claimed by numerous sources.
Savage, however, is the only talker that emphasizes Obumbo’s Communist ties.
America, however, has degenerated into a society of brainless idiots who have no clue as to what a Communist is.
I know a bit, having listened to Radio Moscow and later, Radio Albania in the late 50s and 60s.
