So what do you think? We must make immigration a non-issue in the next election because Democrates ALWAYS use it as a wedge issue and they ALWAYS get away with it. Is this the best way to take that power away from them...?

No, immigration reform is a non-starter for Republicans, who do not have the power to make changes; and the Democrats will permit no changes in which the Republicans might benefit.

Therefore it is a distraction from the very few things the Republicans can still forcefully do. In a nutshell, three things:

1) Refuse to vote for any more continuing resolutions. If Harry Reid wants money, he must actually allow the senate to conduct budget hearings and pass a budget. At first, the Democrats and the MSM will come down on the Republicans like a ton of bricks over this, but two years is a very long time. If the Republicans hold firm, they will force Reid and Obama to do their job, at least nominally.

2) Refuse to cancel sequestration. Mandatory cuts of such scale will traumatize the bureaucracy. The public will be horrified at a 1/3rd reduction in the defense budget. Again, at first, the Democrats and the MSM will lash out at the Republicans, but if the Republicans hold firm, it will really hit the Democrats with both barrels from their big money supporters, demanding they compromise.

3) Refuse to increase the debt cap. Tell Obama and Reid that if they want the debt cap raised, they must do so with immediate spending cuts first, and maybe higher taxes later, not vice versa.

These three things together will be far more than the Democrats can take, and though the Republicans will get huge pressure at first, they can just go into defensive mode. The Democrats are the ones who will eventually be devastated unless they bend.

I think we must always stand for the rule of law or we are no better than a third world country. I know that our border is immense, but there must be a better way police it. Any other country in the world does not let just any and every one cross the border into their country without proper documentation. One silver lining may be that the attraction the US has for the "freeloaders" will decrease as the economy continues to worsen under Obama's incompetent leadership - if you can call it that!

.

Sean Hannity knowingly recruited and employed many illegal aliens while he was in the construction business.

Several years ago he used to brag about on his radio show -

When things got hot Hannity went to the SW borders to use the Minutemen to boost his ratings.

All this crap about illegal aliens paying taxes only means sales taxes - never federal, state, or local income taxes.

Illegal aliens have organizations, churches, attorneys, and printed literature distributed in the USA and South of the Border on how to secretly work (both husband & wife) under the table but still get:

Food Stamps
Govt Subsidized Housing
Medical & Dental
WIC - (food for children)
Welfare payments (cash income)
Legal Assistence

& more - like phoney SSI payments for their (alleged) children - here and South of the Border

all paid for by you - the taxpayers

Suckers!

Yes. We must insist on real border control methods (e-identification, no automatic birthright, guest worker program, overhaul social security cards, etc etc) and then we bite the bullert and grant amnesty to get the issue off teh table. The law must absolutely stop the bleeding through the pourous border though. If it does not, it won’t be reform. It will be surrender and that we will not do.

They are real idiots in the GOP. No matter how they will bend over for a protected class’ attention, the opposition have done the damage successfully branding them as the ‘white’ party.

Sean is a RINo, liberal republican, I have stopped watching his show or listening to his radio program. Anyone who says people like Juan or Beckel are nice people and count them as friends is not a conservative. Liberal are destroying our country, there is NOTHING nice about them.

Let's give the illegals amnesty in the states that vote for it.

Let's see how that flies.

Texas doesn't vote for amnesty, no amnesty in Texas.

New York votes for amnesty, amnesty in New York.

To get around legalities call it “sanctuary”. States can vote not to enforce immigration laws in their state freeing up Immigration agents for other states.

They want em, let em have them.

I live and pay taxes in a state which spends 12-16 billion a year on services to illegals and which provides incentives for people to come and stay here illegally. Here’s my tax reform proposal.

Enforce current laws.

Shore up border security.

Support Arizona and other states where kidnapping and other crimes have increased, and there have been contracts put out on police officers.

Secure parks near the border so that they can be safely used by citizens.

Proof of citizenship for voting, employments, driver licenses, school registration etc.

No public funded services except transportation home and any emergency medical care to get you there.

No federal funds to states or cities which do not help enforce immigration laws.

Arrest public figures and others who conspire to violate immigration laws.

Expedite employer requests for foreign workers where a strong case can be made that there are not sufficient works available for their industry and where they can demonstrate adequate effort to find employees.

Drastically reduce immigration from countries which have a large percentage of their population which are religious fanatics or where the government is run my religious fanatics: Somalia, Iran, Egypt. No immigration of “Palistinians” or members of groups such as Hamas, Hesbollah, Muslim Brotherhood, liberals (just to see if you’re still reading).

How about they tackle the illegals and send them back. There used to be a time when we cared about protecting our borders, but that time is long gone and there will be no immigration control that actually keeps undesirables/illegals out - anything done now will merely find ways to make them all be accepted as "Americans".

Side note: I have Google Chrome installed as a secondary browser and the spell check is really nice when posting - don't have to hit the "Spell" button to catch typos.

Sean Hannity is what you call "controlled opposition".

Nice guy, not too bright.

When he starts talking about the fact that they stole this election blatantly, I might give a listen.

My rant from another thread:

It’s time to compromise on immigration. All we need to get out of this is border security. A fence, drones, cameras, sensors, agents, (whatever we want), in return for pseudo amnesty. Call it whatever you want as long as you don’t call it amnesty. I don’t care if it IS amnesty. We HAVE TO be on the right side of immigration reform. They are not all going to self deport. We are not going to uproot or split up families. We are not going to deport adults who were brought here as children. We are STUCK on stupid on this issue. We are not going to kick these people out.

THEY ARE ALREADY HERE. DEAL WITH IT. We need to STEAL this issue from the Demoncrats. Again we win. We get what we want, (border security) and they get what is already the status quo and WE take credit for it.

Have a retroactive drop dead date, say 11/10/2012, and then enforce immigration to the letter of the law. ZERO tolerance. If you can’t PROVE you were here prior to the drop dead date, YOU GO BACK.

Illegals will come out of the shadows, get documentation, have a chance at FUTURE citizenship. Remember, THEY ARE ALREADY HERE and they aren’t going back, voluntarily or otherwise. Can you handle the TRUTH?

Let’s make these WINNING issues for US. As it stands now, we are the biggest losers.

Many of your comments are asinine. No one said to grant illegals immediate CITIZENSHIP. They won't be able to legally vote. Twenty-One years? We can argue about the number of years.

Cut off the freebies, they are for citizens only.

Well, I don’t know anyone who objects to reform; it all depends on the details.

Obama won the Ledbetter act argument merely by using that term, when in the big picture, the Ledbetter act did almost nothing substantial over prior laws.

So let’s claim the term “immigration reform”. But not let whole-hearted decimation of our immigration laws occur.

Some reform issues I’d like to see:
1) Require the federal government to honor states’ efforts at enforcing rules against illegal immigration, and prohibit the attorney general from challenging those state laws in the courts.
2) Require all illegals to be documented, and tax all the money they send back home at 25%.

Yeah, there are lots more kinds of immigration reform that the conservatives could strongly support. But will Boehner do that? I think not.
