FBI probe of Petraeus triggered by e-mail threats from biographer, officials say
WaPo ^ | 11/10/2012 | Sari Horwitz and Greg Miller

Posted on 11/10/2012 12:19:37 PM PST by RoosterRedux

The collapse of the dazzling career of CIA Director David H. Petraeus was triggered when a woman with whom he was having an affair sent threatening e-mails to another woman close to him, according to three senior law enforcement officials with knowledge of the episode.

The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell, a former military officer and a Petraeus biographer, and uncovered explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, the officials said.

"We now have more reporting from the Socialist Media about how this will affect testimony on Bengahzi, than we have about the deaths at Bengahzi."

The real story of Ben Gahzi is that the Muslim-in-Chief was using the CIA (or vice versa) to arm al-Qaeda.

on Sept. 6, 2011, the woman broke up with him. However, Petraeus continued to pursue her, sending her thousands of emails over the last several months, raising even more questions about his judgment.

This is at the very least 20 emails a day, 7 days a week. When did this man have time to run the CIA, and could he have had anything else at all on his mind except for this woman if he was behaving this way? I wonder how many people in our government are still doing something like this right now. I think the lowest life forms on earth are the people leading our nation.

One interesting angle that hasn't gotten a lot of attention is the initial story that she was accessing Petraeus' e-mail account, and the CIA and/or FBI was concerned about a security breach.

I didn't think much of it at the time, but how convenient would it be for someone like Petraeus to toss that kind of story out there as a way of opening up the possibility that ANY e-mail message he sent could have been sent by someone else?'

"I know that e-mail message with the top-secret information about the security situation at the Benghazi compound was sent from my address to a recipient named mohammad@allahakbar.com, but I swear it wasn't me. It must have been someone who hacked into my e-mail account."

I think this is either disinformation or just bad data (it conflicts with numerous other reports).

But it is important that stupid old WaPo is venturing into the fray. If they become part of the mob, they will be dragged along even if they didn't originally plan to participate in this story.

I find it hard to believe that a man of his quality would
send emails and incriminate himself. Maybe he had a lapse
of judgment and had an affair, but I can’t see him leaving
such a trail of evidence.

, liWhat if Mittens’VP nominee had instead been PETREUS and not Ryan?

Then instead we would have heard of all this in the week BEFORE the election and not after:

I’m sure that as soon as soon as speculation mounted that the choice might end up as Petreus, that very millisecond every info rat and honeypot in Chicago went onto a full war footing.

Given recent political history I find it highly implausible that the original reason why the FBI launched down this sensitive path was because a “jealous and possessive female” tried to scare away a RIVAL.

That notion stinks to high heaven of the ole vaguely Arkanasas, “nuts and sluts” defense.

Even here at FR today people are swallowing that bait hook

She’s hot, but the sex angle is a red-herring:

The real story is Bengazi, MANPADS, and Al Qaeda.

Look Nation of Islam was openly returned for his re-election —that’s two times, now.

We do NOT know what dirt the muzzies have on this gay man, but we do know how much it would benefit them to put a Salafist into the White House —we might have that, now.

I like sex, but THAT IS NOT REALLY THE POINT OF THIS STORY.

[Other sources say the investigation had been going for months. And we're to believe the WH wasn't informed until Election Day??]

How many of these scandals happen daily that we never hear about? This thing could have been contained. The rationale that the White House and DNI might use on the FBI, would be that only minor crimes were committed, that Petraeus was irreplaceable, that the scandal would impact the morale of the CIA, and be an international embarrassment. Obama’s first term has been full of scandals that barely reached the surface because the administration stonewalls and the news media sticks its head in the sand. In the case of Petraeus the DNI told him to resign just before the story was fed to the media.

The story was never really about the murder of 4 Americans in Benghazi.

If you think Christopher Stevens was really a "U.S. ambassador" over there -- in a country that doesn't even have a real functioning government -- then I think you're being naive.

That’s a very good point. Obama evidently believed at one point just before the GOP convention that Romney was going to ask Petraeus to be his VP, so this was probably going to be the classic Obama-style October Surprise (always something sleazy and personal).

However, it was a win-win for Obama, because he probably now feels that this discredits Petraeus and anything he might say about Benghazi. That said, I think people here are seriously overestimating Petraeus. He’s a military man, and thus loyal to whoever is in charge. Right now, that’s Obama.

I don’t think Petraeus’ civilian status as CIA director and now as just plain civilian is going to change his loyalty to Obama.

But it would be nice to be proved wrong.

Don’t forget this headline! From Breitbart.com

Petraeus on Benghazi: It Wasn’t Me

Central Intelligence Agency director David Petraeus has emphatically denied that he or anyone else at the CIA refused assistance to the former Navy SEALs who requested it three times as terrorists attacked the U.S. consulate in Benghazi on the night of Sep. 11. The Weekly Standard and ABC News report that Petraeus’s denial effectively implicates President Barack Obama, since a refusal to assist “would have been a presidential decision.”

Romney never had any intention of asking Petraeus to be his running mate. The evidence of this is that Romney's team went to such great lengths to ignore anything related to Afghanistan or the so-called "war on terror" from his campaign. Selecting Obama's CIA director as his running mate would have made something too obvious to voters: Both major parties are on the same side of almost every major issue in the U.S. today.

If anyone here hasn't watched the interview of the alleged mistress (Petraeus's biographer) in January by Jon Stewart at that link, please do.

His very first question is: "The book is called 'All In'. So, the last time I recall a journalist or an author embedded with a person at this level was McChrystal, and it was Rolling Stone. And he got fired. How did they let you-? How did Petraeus allow that? Did he know you were there? Were you, like, hiding? Did he allow this?"

LOL

President Obama whispered to a top fundraiser this week that he believes GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney wants to name Gen. David Petraeus to the VP slot!

“The president wasn't joking,” the insider explains to the DRUDGE REPORT.

A Petraeus drama has been quietly building behind the scenes.

Romney is believed to have secretly met with the four-star general in New Hampshire.

This would be gross negligence of epic proportions, not only on Petraeus' part, but also by whomever was supposed to vet him for the DCI job. Please let it not be true.
