Spokesman: House majority leader knew of Petraeus matter in October (I give up!)

House majority leader Eric Cantor talked to an FBI official in late October about former CIA Director David Petraeus' involvement in an affair, a spokesman for the congressman told CNN Sunday.

Doug Heye said Cantor had a conversation with the whistleblower about the affair and the national security concerns involved in the matter.

The New York Times reported Saturday that on October 31, Cantor's chief of staff phoned the FBI to inform the agency about the call between the congressman and the FBI official. The Times reported Cantor learned of the whistleblower through Rep. Dave Reichert, R-Washington.

A spokeswoman for Reichert told CNN Sunday that the Times article was accurate but that the congressman had no further comment on his involvement in the case.

Petraeus' affair came to light when an FBI investigation looked into a complaint that his biographer, Paula Broadwell, was sending harassing e-mails to another woman close to the retired four-star general, a U.S. official told CNN Saturday.

Someone told Cantor something was going on. Cantor told the FBI. Completely appropriate. Do you think he should publicize all the crap people tell him everyday? Do you know how much nonsense these guys hear all the time?

You maybe right but Cantor’s spokesman needs to shut their mouth about what they knew then. Now that he said he knew before the election then we as the people have the right to know.
The info I have is that she exposed a CIA Prison.

If Canter is House majority leader, what the heck is John Boehner?

House Speaker. Two different jobs. The latter is supposed to be done with nation - not party - in mind.

When did Cantor find out about it? October 30th? It must have been stamped top secret and unless he talked to the FBI and was read-in then perhaps he believes in innocent until proven guilty.

Until he got all the facts do we want our guy to destroy a mans career and marriage without hearing the entire story, and most importantly, seeing the evidence themselves?

She may have revealed something in a talk, that is not directly related to any affair. She was P’s biographer, etc. That stuff happens all the time and needs to be monitored.

Did P tell her stuff she was not supposed to know? That’s a different issue. All I’m reading about is ooooh, an affair! I’m not defending that either, I’m saying someone used this after the election and before his testimony, to get P out. Maybe P himself used it as an excuse. But certainly the timing on this is obvious.

Cantor knew of the allegation from a whistle blower and referred it to the FBI, but he did not know if it was true.

Cantor should have referred this matter to the Benghzi committee hearings
That were ongoing. The committee, should have out Betrayus and Broadboobs
Under oath, BEHIND closed doors to determine the truth.
That’s what hearings are for. Especially closed door hearings.
All Cantor did was pass the buck. Failed leadership.

Obama classified it until after the election for political purposes and Cantor had to have known that. Cantor should have forced this to be disclosed before the election by forcing Petraeus to resign on the day he learned about it.

All Cantor knew...was that some idiot was sending threatening emails to some female citizen. The cops weren’t reacting, so he gave it to the FBI and they did what you’d expect...dig into what was going on. No one knew where this was going, until they unbundled our New York Times reporter’s email account and noticed emails to the general. You can imagine the shock on that technicians face when he finally figured out who she was having an affair with. As for Cantor? I doubt if the FBI ever went back to brief him on anything. He’s probably sitting there and shocked about how a simple request to the FBI went and caused this event to occur.

This means Valerie Jarrett(POTUS) was running p4 for a year.

Running him as a turned spy for the Chicago Communists.

He had to know he was being used and would be under the bus soon.

This weasel has no morals, values nor integrity.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Cantor’s not having an affair too

There were ongoing hearings at the time.
Why didn’t Cantor refer this matter to closed door hearings to determine
If it was true? Where wasBonehead in all this? At the tanning salon?

The report I read was that the FBI was investigating for months. Anyway, October 31st was plenty of time to drag Petraeus behind closed doors and demand his resignation when he fesses up.

Informing the FBI is not passing the buck. And you think news of a P affair was a big deal for the Benghazi hearings for what reason?

If the republicans retain the current leadership in the house every republican her should resign the party. If they don’t then shut up.

I left the party under Bush 1, almost came back with the Gingrich house but Bush 2 compassionate big government conservatism sobered me back up.

Its your party republicans you get what you tolerate.... Bummer is so do we...

Perhaps Cantor knew, and it was classified info, so, he wasn’t allowed by law to go public. It’s sounds like he told the FBI and they sat on it until after the election.
