Kroger to Slash Hourly Workers to Avoid Obamacare Penalties
Flopping Aces ^ | 11/4/2012 | Doug Ross

Operative Faith reveals that Kroger will soon join the ranks of Durden Restaurants and slash the hours of its non-exempt (hourly) workers to avoid millions in Obamacare penalties.

To give you a sense of Kroger’s size and importance, its sales last year were $90 billion and it employs nearly 350,000 people. Most of its jobs are hourly and the vast majority of workers are neither millionaires or billionaires.

Faith is a mid-level manager at Kroger and reports the dire news:

Last week we found out that, beginning in January, any employee who is not full-time at that point, will be limited to 28 hours per week and all new hires will be subject to the same policy.

Currently, part-time employees can work as many hours as needed.

Many Kroger employees, I believe, will be shocked to find out about this new policy.

Here in Indiana, Kroger employees are unionized, so no surprise they are Baraqqis.

I have no doubt that is part of the argument by the union employees here at one of our grocers “Nob Hill”.

They see the writing on the wall and are demanding minimum hours and a few other tidbits.

They are getting out ahead of this.

This is no accident, folks. This was planned. This is how we get to government-run single-payer health insurance - by making it too expensive for private businesses to provide insurance to their employees.

I’m still amazed that national card check didn’t pass when Baraq had control of the House in 09/10.

We’re already there. Obamacare will bring about the complete destruction of the economy and cause them to collapse ushering in nationalized industries. Obamacare is turning out to be the most destructive and invasive legislation that has ever been passed. The ONLY way he’s going to be impeached is when the Left turn on him next year when their paychecks are suddenly much much lighter. Idiots. After we remove 0 we need to hike the voting age or make them take a common sense test.

It’s like when Hawaii mandated employer provided health insurance for all full timers. Suddenly 40hr/week jobs became two 20hr/week jobs.

I’m predicting about 15% employment in one year.

I’m predicting 15% additional unemployment in one year than the real 15% we currently have. In Kroger’s defence (and all others) business has to do whatever it takes to survive.

Actually, this will make unemployment go down. Under the new rules, you will need 3 employees to do the work of 2. The bad news is that the pay the two are now earning will have to be redistributed to cover the third worker. Share the wealth...see how it works????

I shop at Kroger’s.

Worthless employees here, but it’s the town. Not much choice.

This is crap. A friend of mine works as a cashier at Kroger in Columbus, Oh. She received mail and brochures prior to the election, not only from the unions but from Kroger, urging her to vote for Obama. She showed it to me and I decided I will never shop there again.

Yes. Only his plan is going to backfire big time on him and I’m going to tell you why. Only the young idiots that voted for him will have any jobs because no one else ill be able to survive on part time wages so they will have to live at home with their parents until 0 has dumped out all of of their parent’s savings to live on. Then the parents will be forced to kick the idiot liberals to the curb who will then have to live on the streets, quickly realizing what an idiot and fool they were, and understand why socialism is a cancerous government thus converting them into full fledged conservatives. It won’t take long.

Funny thing is that any company that uses union labor is going to go down first since they’ll never be able to make the unions happy AND adhere to the Obamacare regulations.

It’s fun watching demolition.

They may just make do with fewer employees then. All Kroger stores around here(Metro Detroit Area) have self-checkout lanes and maybe 2 cashiers. Another chain, Meyers has three times as many self-checkout lanes as Kroger already. More chain stores and even independents will probably use self-checkout lanes. These can also be modified for other retail businesses. I’ve seen them at Home Depot or Lowes, can’t recall which.

Higher unemployment probably will not happen, in fact the insidious part is that unemployment will more than likely go down. Because they count part time jobs as jobs, and that Kroger employee who is part time but has been able to work extra hours means there’s work to be done. So Kroger will hire another part timer to do the rest of the work...and we’ll see unemployment go down due to more part time workers.
